Resume
Cover Letter
A detailed document of your
professional and academic history
A complete detailed profile of
you or a company
A letter of introduction attached to
or accompanying another document
such as a resume or a CV
A brief summary of your
skills and experience
CV stands for “Curriculum Vitae” which comes from Latin, means “Course of Life”
is an in-depth document which describes the whole course of your career in full
detail
A Curriculum Vitae contains details about your education, professional career,
publications, awards, honors, and other achievements. In the USA and Canada, a
CV is used only for academic applications: academic jobs, grants, research
fellowships, etc.
It’s usually two- or three-page long but can just as well be laid out over 10+ pages, if
necessary.
If a job advertisement asks for a CV, that's a hint that the employer expects a great
deal of life experience and accomplishments, including education, original research,
presentations
What is CV
A resume is a short, straight-to-the-point, document created for the purpose of
applying to a specific job.
In a resume, you only mention the aspects of your work experience and skills that
are relevant to the job you’re applying for. A good resume highlights specific
contributions you have made in your previous work and showcases how your
different skills can be useful for the position you are applying to.
Unlike the CV, try to keep a resume as short as possible. It would be prefer to
design your resume to 1 page max. If you have 10+ years of experience, or really
believe that the extra information you can mention can add value to your
application, you can make it 2 pages tops.

CV vs Resume as Document
● A CV and resume are similar in that they’re both documents that summarize your
professional history, education, skills and achievements. They’re also both
documents you might provide an employer for consideration for an open position.
● It is important to note that in the United States and most of Europe, resumes and
CVs are not interchangeable. A resume is a shorter-form document that provides a
concise overview of your previous roles, skills and details about your education.
● A CV, on the other hand, is typically a longer, more detailed document focused
largely on academic coursework and research.
● There are a few exceptions, however. In India, Pakistan, South Africa and
Australia, the terms CV and resume are interchangeable.
A portfolio is a sample of your career related skills and experiences and should be
presented in your own creative style. Everything you create and decide later what
you want to include in your portfolio.
The process of putting together a portfolio itself will help you become a more
effective interviewee. You will be identifying the skills you have gained through
your various experiences and how they relate to the career you are interested in.
A professional portfolio will also show an employer proof of your organizational,
communication, and tangible career related skills.
Portfolio basicaly shows a complete detailed profile so it could be a any of student,
company, organization or any firm.
What is portfolio
A Cover Letter is a single-page letter written to the person or organization offering
the job you're applying for. A well-written cover letter should introduce you and
encourage the person reading it to read your resume.
The cover letter is your first introduction to the person who may hire you, and its
goal should be to make you as memorable as possible, in a good way.
Cover letter uses the requirements for the job and information on the company as a
guide for its content. It tells the stories that are filled with examples that satisfy job
requirements and make you stand out positively as an individual and a potential
employee.

FORMATS
Portfolio as Reflective Story
A portfolio tells a story. It is the story of knowing.
Knowing about things... Knowing oneself... Knowing an
audience... Portfolios are students' own stories of what
they know, why they believe they know it, and why
others should be of the same opinion. A portfolio is
opinion backed by fact... Students prove what they know
with samples of their work.”
(Paulson & Paulson, 1991, p.2)
