 What is Internet of Things ?
Internet of things is about infusing digital technology with physical infrastructure.
1) It’s a computing concept in which every day physical machines are
embedded with electronics, software, sensors and connectivity.
2) These machines are connected through internet and they can uniquely
identify themselves to other machines with the help of a unique computer system
embedded in them.
3)In Internet of things a machine that represents itself digitally becomes more
important than the machine itself.
4)With the help of a common network in which they are connected, machine will
not only be able to interact with its operator or manufacturer but also with the
surrounding machines it is connected to and database data as well.
5) In this way data can be communicated in a more intelligent fashion and we
can add more value to services.
6)The Internet Of Things viz augmented intelligence, can help
consumers achieve goals by improving their decision-making capacity
to a very high extent.
7)For businesses, the Internet of Business Things (IoBT) helps companies
achieve enhanced process optimization and efficiencies by collecting
and reporting data collected from the business environment.
8)It’s a global movement which infuses instrumentation,
interconnection and intelligence into the system.
Trends
 1)Home Products: - With the application of Internet of Things you can make your
home more secure, energy efficient; it will also help your smart devices to
communicate with each other and utilize information in more fashionable way
and it can provide user personal assistance - (Wireless lighting)
 2) Healthcare:- With the help of Internet of Things, the user can keep track of his
physical and health fitness. It can be also used by doctors to track their patient
recovery-(Smart Wristband)
 3) Industrial :- With the help of Internet of Things, machines can communicate
with other machines; working environment can be made more safe and secure
and it can also help companies to monitor their appliances-(Hand hygiene
recording and reminding system)
 4) Retail:-With the application of Internet of Things, payment system can be
made more efficient and secure. It can also help logistic industries in keeping
track of their delivery-(NFC payment System)
 5) Automobile:-With the help of Internet of Things, a vehicle can adopt to the
environment and can constantly send reports related to functioning of different
parts-( Smart entry key)
Trends With Big Impact
 Home automation :- Internet of Things can find applications in home
automation because it is a very vast field and there are multiple
objectives that can be fulfilled with the help of Internet of Things .
Example
Efficient use of resources :-Smart lights can be used to detect
presence of a person with the help of sensors and can get to turn
on/off automatically or they can control the amount of light entering
in the room so as to minimize the usage of electricity .
 Automobile:- Automobile is fast growing industry both in the quality of
technology as well as quantity. In an automobile with the help of
Internet of Things vehicles can be made more secure; manufacturer
can collect data remotely related to performance of vehicle.
Example
Security:-Owner of car can get notification on his phone on forced
entry in his vehicle.
 I am interested in automobile sector because if you go back fifty
years from now, driving experience was completely different.
Everything was manual but now if you look inside car everything has
changed, cars have become smart, they can adopt according to
their surroundings and this is just the beginning; There is a lot more to
come.
 During winter the foggy conditions cause a lot of accidents, so I
want to build a system which can collect data from sensors fitted in
car and pass it to central control system which in return will process it
and communicate it to the driver with the help of a phone. It will
also send data to other parts of cars so that they can adjust
themselves ex:- fog light will be automatically turned on, speed will
be decreased, anti-lock braking system will be activated or traction
control can be increased.
 If given a chance in this field I would love to develop systems which
will make a vehicle more comfortable and safe keeping in mind to
be economical as well.
