• A sale letter is a type of letter which is written
to sell goods or services.
• It is the most selective form of advertising
which aims to sell particular kinds of goods or
services to particular type of customers
• The basic purpose of sales letters is to
persuade the reader to buy it what you are
selling.

• Solicited Sales letters are written in response
to inquiries related to sales
• The buyers want to gather information about
price, terms, catalogues, and condition of
trade.
• These letters are written by the firm to attract
buyers to buy the products it manufactures.

• Unsolicited Sales letters are the real sales
messages
• They are written to introduce goods and
attract buyers for the purchase.

better than Dear reader or Dear subscriber
The Opening Paragraph must be interesting to arouse the
interest of the reader.

c. A challenging statement
d. Begin with a quotation.

• The second function of sales letter is to create
interest in the mind of the reader
• The writer must build a picture of the product
because if he send a letter to a person who
knows nothing about the product then what
will he buys.
• Striking points must be there about the
quality of product or features of products

• This is also the objective of sales letter is to
produce a desire in the mind of the reader to
buy that product.
• It depends on two things:-
1. He should appeal to his mind
2. He should appeal to his emotion.

• The main objective of the sales letter is not
achieved unless a reader buys the product. The
reader must be stimulated to buy products.
1. He may be offered a special discount on the
product if he intends to buy.
2. He may be offered a gift or prize scheme.
3. He may be offered pre-paid self addressed
envelops or business reply cards.
4. The reader may be asked to place an order on a
telephone call.
