3. Oral work:
Oral work is a work which is done ORALLY without the
help of WRITTEN WORK and RECORD.
It can be defined as MENTAL WORK where in a problem
is solved ORALLY or MENTALLY without the use of pen
and paper.
As a matter of fact, much of mathematical work has to
be done mentally and may tables have to be learnt by
heart.
It precedes written work.
In all respects, ORAL WORK is the backbone not only
OF WRITTEN WORK but also of overall performance in
the subject.
4. Functions:
With the help of oral work, some times can
possibly be saved.
It removes shyness of students through oral
expression.
It encourages healthy competition.
It build strong foundation for later written work.
It is an easy way of testing previous knowledge.
It is an effective means of maintaining discipline.
5. Advantages:
It is the backbone of not only written work but
also overall works in the Mathematics.
It develops mental alertness, quick thinking, quick
hearing and the readiness of mind.
It may be effective in the initial stages.
It helps in diagnosing the difficulties and doubts of
students.
6. Disadvantages:
In oral work learned material cannot be retained
for a long time.
All problems cannot be solved verbally.
It develops a habit of self study in children.
7. Group work:
It is one of the most important techniques of
teaching mathematics.
In this technique, large class or group is divided
into a smaller group according to the abilities and
interests of the students.
Thus, the group becomes smaller and so greater
attention can be paid to be individual students.
8. Importance:
The group UST be in accordance to the level of
intelligence and achievement of students. Hence
group should be homogeneous.
In this technique of teaching complex task break into
parts and steps.
Group work helps to improve understanding through
discussion and explanation.
It makes competitive cooperation amongst group
member.
A mathematics teacher may employ this technique
for collection of some mathematical data.
9. Disadvantages:
While working in a group, there is no place for
individual or independent thinking.
In group work decision making takes time.
In group to avoid work, it is very easy for the
person to avoid work and leave it to others to
complete.
10. Homework:
Homework means creating a study environment for
the children at home.
Every maths teacher assigns home work.
It is assumed that classroom times only for
teaching and not for practice.
Often the unsupervised home work develops
undesirable study habits.
Any home work assigned to pupils should be
corrected and kept as a cummulative record in
notebooks rather than on loose sheets of paper.
11. Advantages:
It supplements the classroom teaching.
It utilizes the leisure time of the child, otherwise,
the child will waste it in gossiping and playing.
It develops a habit of regularity and hard working.
It brings a closer relationship between the parents
and the school.
It develops a habit of self study in children.
