In Spring 2013, we are on the precipice of dramatic, disruptive change in the health field that offers an unprecedented opportunity and challenge to transform health care and population health. We know that traditional public health approaches along with more and better health care are not enough to improve health outcomes, equity, and cost. We must also: - implement sustainable, fundamental "upstream" changes that address the root causes of disease and disability; and - transform the way we deliver health care to ensure access to quality, affordable health care for all. Healthy Food Systems,Waste Management,Toxic Materials, Safer Chemicals, Green Building Energy, Climate Health, Green Purchasing, Pharmaceuticals Together with our partners around the world, Health Care Without Harm shares a vision of a health care sector that does no harm, and instead promotes the health of people and the environment. To that end, we are working to implement ecologically sound and healthy alternatives to health care practices that pollute the environment and contribute to disease.

Production Pesticides, chemical fertilizers, antibiotic and hormone use in meat and dairy production, infectious agents, arsenic, environmental degradation Processing Increased reliance on imported, unregulated processed foods; residual mercury; food-borne illness Packaging / Transportation Bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates, air quality, food miles, widespread use of plastics leading to large volumes of waste both in landfills and incinerated, environmental degradation Consumption Fast food, sugar-sweetened beverages, high fructose corn syrup, marketing, obesogens, nutritionally deplete foods 5
