Children’s Art Program
Description of scheduled classes Ages 5-15
Week 1: June 15 - 19
Ceramic Arts Studio
This week’s activities will focus on the ceramic art
techniques of hand building, pottery wheel, and tile
crafting. NOTE: All projects will require additional drying
time to ensure successful firing. Week 2: June 22 – 26
Sculpture Studio
Week 3: June 29 – July 3
Drawing Studio
Our most popular week! Students will receive
individual instruction to compliment their
development in technique, composition and
color theory. Students will also enjoy figure
drawing, life drawing and sketching.
Week 4: July 6 – 10
Fabric & Textile Studio
Felting, weaving, knotting, sewing, beading,
applique, fabric painting, printing and pattern
making! A full week of studio-based creative
crafts and original projects is sure to inspire the
young designer. Instruction will offer students the
opportunity to develop and apply new skills!
This week, students will enjoy modeling and
sculpting original figurines and other multi-
dimensional projects. Instruction in relief, engraving,
carving and modeling techniques will support the
student’s experiences with plaster and other modeling
compounds.

Week 5: July 13 – 17
Theatre Arts Studio
One of our most popular studio experiences, this
week’s activities will provide the expressive
artist an outlet for their creativity! As well as
providing support and resource to further their
interests and skills, activities include
monologue, mime, mask making and dramatic
improvisation. Students will be encouraged to
create and develop character, dialogue, simple
costume and set design.
Week 6: July 20 - 24
Pen & Ink Studio
An exciting new class this summer! Students will
receive instruction in various pen and ink
techniques including texture, dimension,
perspective, composition, watercolor wash
and calligraphy.
Week 7: July 27 – 31
Painting Studio
An all-encompassing week full of color!
Students will receive individual instruction to
compliment their skill development in brush
techniques, composition and color theory.
Instruction in the traditional uses of watercolor,
acrylic, oil and tempera paint will be given.

At a Glance Summer Schedule

Week 6: July 20 – 24 Pen & Ink Studio
Week 7: July 27 – 31 Painting Studio
This program welcomes students ages 5-15 years old. Enrollment is limited to fifteen
students per day. Instruction will begin at 9:00 am, please schedule your student’s
arrival accordingly. All class materials are provided. Students are encouraged to wear
clothing appropriate to the creative nature of the program. Please label all personal
items. Students should plan on taking home finished projects at the end of each class
period. (Sculpture work will require extra time for drying and firing)
PLEASE NOTE: Students will take two meal breaks daily and are required to bring
their own snacks and lunches. The school’s “Snack Café” will also offer drinks, snacks
and frozen treats for a nominal fee.
Children’s Art Program
9:00 am – 2:00 pm Monday - Friday
Evening Art Workshop & Open Studio
6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Monday - Wednesday
Since the children’s program fills the morning schedule at the Schoolhouse, this
workshop and studio time is for students of all ages seeking an opportunity for
individualized artistic guidance. Studio fees will include all materials, instruction and
plenty of support to guide you in your creative adventure! Activity will compliment
students of all ages and skill levels. Instruction is offered in all artistic disciplines and
students will have the opportunity to choose their own artistic path!

Afternoon Academic and Tutorial Program
Academic K – 10

Grades
2:30 pm – 5:30 pm Monday - Wednesday
This program provides students with individualized instruction and tutorial in a small
group setting. Emphasis is given to individual planning and goal setting. Students, their
families and administration will work together to create goals appropriate for the
duration of the student’s enrollment. All goals will be structured from individualized
assessment. Appropriate curriculum and learning activity will be chosen according to
these goals. Individualized planning will support the needs of each student’s program.
This program will ensure successful acquisition, goal attainment and cater to each
students needs during the learning process.
Instruction offered in the following areas; one or more areas of academic
emphasis may be integrated in planning.
• Math- all levels through
Algebra
• Spelling/Vocabulary
• Reading
• Science
• History
• English Grammar
• Written Composition
• Penmanship
• Spanish
• Computer Lab
• World Geography
• Creative Writing
• Any special topics of interest
The program enrolls six students per day. All class materials and curriculum are
provided.

At The Progressive Schoolhouse, we provide our students with an
immediate reception of acceptance, acknowledgement, support and
validation. Our actions as teachers demonstrate the value of
nurturing trusting and respectful relationships with our students.
The art studio is set up to accommodate the developmental needs
of our multi-age classroom. The studio experience promotes a
structure that respects each individual in his or her creative
process.

  • 2. 2 THE ARTIST’S PLAYGROUND SUMMER 2015 Children’s Art Program Description of scheduled classes Ages 5-15 Week 1: June 15 - 19 Ceramic Arts Studio This week’s activities will focus on the ceramic art techniques of hand building, pottery wheel, and tile crafting. NOTE: All projects will require additional drying time to ensure successful firing. Week 2: June 22 – 26 Sculpture Studio Week 3: June 29 – July 3 Drawing Studio Our most popular week! Students will receive individual instruction to compliment their development in technique, composition and color theory. Students will also enjoy figure drawing, life drawing and sketching. Week 4: July 6 – 10 Fabric & Textile Studio Felting, weaving, knotting, sewing, beading, applique, fabric painting, printing and pattern making! A full week of studio-based creative crafts and original projects is sure to inspire the young designer. Instruction will offer students the opportunity to develop and apply new skills! This week, students will enjoy modeling and sculpting original figurines and other multi- dimensional projects. Instruction in relief, engraving, carving and modeling techniques will support the student’s experiences with plaster and other modeling compounds.
  • 3. 3 THE ARTIST’S PLAYGROUND SUMMER 2015 Week 5: July 13 – 17 Theatre Arts Studio One of our most popular studio experiences, this week’s activities will provide the expressive artist an outlet for their creativity! As well as providing support and resource to further their interests and skills, activities include monologue, mime, mask making and dramatic improvisation. Students will be encouraged to create and develop character, dialogue, simple costume and set design. Week 6: July 20 - 24 Pen & Ink Studio An exciting new class this summer! Students will receive instruction in various pen and ink techniques including texture, dimension, perspective, composition, watercolor wash and calligraphy. Week 7: July 27 – 31 Painting Studio An all-encompassing week full of color! Students will receive individual instruction to compliment their skill development in brush techniques, composition and color theory. Instruction in the traditional uses of watercolor, acrylic, oil and tempera paint will be given.

Enrollment is limited to fifteen students per day. Instruction will begin at 9:00 am, please schedule your student’s arrival accordingly. All class materials are provided. Students are encouraged to wear clothing appropriate to the creative nature of the program. Please label all personal items. Students should plan on taking home finished projects at the end of each class period. (Sculpture work will require extra time for drying and firing) PLEASE NOTE: Students will take two meal breaks daily and are required to bring their own snacks and lunches. The school’s “Snack Café” will also offer drinks, snacks and frozen treats for a nominal fee. Children’s Art Program 9:00 am – 2:00 pm Monday - Friday Evening Art Workshop & Open Studio 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Monday - Wednesday Since the children’s program fills the morning schedule at the Schoolhouse, this workshop and studio time is for students of all ages seeking an opportunity for individualized artistic guidance. Studio fees will include all materials, instruction and plenty of support to guide you in your creative adventure! Activity will compliment students of all ages and skill levels. Instruction is offered in all artistic disciplines and students will have the opportunity to choose their own artistic path!
  • 5. 5 THE ARTIST’S PLAYGROUND SUMMER 2015 Afternoon Academic and Tutorial Program Academic K – 10 th Grades 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm Monday - Wednesday This program provides students with individualized instruction and tutorial in a small group setting. Emphasis is given to individual planning and goal setting. Students, their families and administration will work together to create goals appropriate for the duration of the student’s enrollment. All goals will be structured from individualized assessment. Appropriate curriculum and learning activity will be chosen according to these goals. Individualized planning will support the needs of each student’s program. This program will ensure successful acquisition, goal attainment and cater to each students needs during the learning process. Instruction offered in the following areas; one or more areas of academic emphasis may be integrated in planning. • Math- all levels through Algebra • Spelling/Vocabulary • Reading • Science • History • English Grammar • Written Composition • Penmanship • Spanish • Computer Lab • World Geography • Creative Writing • Any special topics of interest The program enrolls six students per day. All class materials and curriculum are provided.
