2. Introduction
This project gives a description about
“Declining influence of sports in India”.
Sports which play crucial role in our life, is
now on the declining slope. This includes unjust
participation of women in sports,
commercialisation of sports, replacement by “E-
SPORTS”. Modern gadgets now -a- days attract
more than outdoor sports .
We would discuss about this declining
Influence of sports in India.
3. Diversity in Sports in India
India is home to a diverse population playing
many different sports across the country. Too
many games and sports are played in India like
Cricket , football, hockey, basketball , Kabaddi
etc but cricket amongst is the most popular .
Different sports are played in different regions of
the country for eg. Football in West Bengal,
Kabaddi in punjab , Basketball in Rajasthan.
Hockey is stated as the national game of India.
4. Condition of Sports in India
Scope of Sports in India these days has been diminishing . Participation
in sports has been shrinking , women participation in sports is also
less . Modern gadgets now-a-days attract more than sports played
out of the door.
Proper grounds and fields are not available due to increasing
modernisation. Proper sports equipments and funds are not
available to sportsperson. Commercialisation of sports has lead the
sports only confined to the money.
Small children which are required to strengthen their base in sports do
not have basic facilities at their school level .
Number of coaches in our country are also less .
When we talk about the performance of India in sports. Stats are
enough to depict what the condition is.

5. Reasons of Such condition of
Sports in India
There has been a decline in the participation in sports these
days . Sports these days has been replaced by TVs ,Mobiles
and computers. Especially the younger generation founds
stuck more to these. People’s thinking towards women and
lack of role models in women, sense of insecurity also
contributes to lesser participation , there are many talented
sports persons in our country which do not have platform
to ameliorate and enhance their skills . So appropriate
facilities should be provided to those who have potency
and don’t have facilities and money. Attitude and thinking
of people should be changed . Parents should encourage
their wards to participate more in sports activities
6. A comparative study with other
nations
Comparision study has been taken to show performance
of India . India’s performance in olympics has been
shown by a graphical presentation . Also other
country’s stats has been given for comparision
7. Flashback
If we talk about Sports in past India has a rich heritage of
these activities People of earlier times played various
games to enjoy and recreate themselves as can be
found in the archaeological excavations of
Mohenjadaro and Harappa, the Vedic literature, The
Ramayana(archery ) and the Mahabharata (dice
games), the Puranas, the literary works of Kautilya,
Kalidasa, Panini and Dandin as well as a whole lot of
Buddhist and Jain literatures. Various archaeological
evidences like coins, inscriptions and monumental
carvings support them. Pre independence period lead
to emergence of most popular game “Cricket”
8. Emergence of E-Sports
The time has changed too much out of our
expectations . With everything going with newly
emerged “E-” Concept Sports even have gone
“Electronic” . Now sports seem to be only limited
to Computers Ipads and mobile phones. Instead
of moving out in grounds , new generations has
made their computers as battlefield . Falling
down with physical and mental fittness . Instead
of perceiving their wards their parents are stuck
to their mobiles. Parents must be aware
themselves and should allow them to move out
and play and get bonded with nature.

This is clear from above line what does $po ts mean. It
simply depicts the involvement of money or just
Commercialisation of sports .
Now if you ask someone “What Do You Want To Be ?” he
would prefer to be a sports man first because it will
help you earn a heap of money that you might not earn
in your whole life.
This indicates that Sports now-a-days has only confined in
terms of money .
According to reports it has been found that richest sports
person is an Indian .
10. Women participation in Sports
in India
Women participation in sports has a long history can see the
pre independence time when women were facing
partisanship , abcourse there was lesser participation of
women in that male dominated society.
But with the change in time after the independence the
women started participation . PT Usha , AB george ,
Maricom , Saina Nehwal , Sania Mirza has been remarkable
in their sports and has turned the opportunities into
success, they have made India proud by hunting top
positions in International sports like Olympics ,
Commonwealth games. SAF games etc. These women has
now been the role models for thousands of people .
But there are many challenges faced by women that limits
their participation women feels insecure ,they witness
teasing which spoils sports environment . There is need
of change in attitudes of people.
11. What should be done
The condition of sports in India is very pathetic.
Money rules over Sports in india, Electronic equipments plays over the
minds of people followed by lesser participation in sports activities ,
those who have potential, wants to flourish in sports , doesn’t have
opportunities.
This is what defines the condition of sports in our country. Media
should play active role in motivating people more towards sports.
Opportunities should be provided to the people to enhance in
sports. Government could play a major role in the same .
Government can help them to arrange funds and should start various
programs so people would involve more in sport activities.
Secure environment for women should be made so that women would
participate more in sports.
12. Media and Sports
Media whether print or electronic can play a significant
and effective role in Flourishing the condition of sports
and make a healthy sports environment. Media can
make a sportsperson superman overnights , so it’s a
vital source of motivation to sportsperson because
they get publicity through it and also motivate more
sportsperson to come up . Media should highlight the
importance of sports and should cover more women’s
sports to encourage more women participation. Sports
like Kabaddi has been flourished only because of media
by “ PRO KABADDI LEAGUE”
Thus media can play positive role in increasing influence
of Sports
