2. Matching
• Leaf Matching Game
• Individuals or Groups
• Materials: color and shape
matching leaves.
• Encourage the children to make
matched based on color and
shape.
• The Children were able to make
matches based on color and
shape as well as grouping leaves
by just color or shape.
3. Numbers
• Numbers/Dots Game
• Individual or Groups
• Materials: Number cards 0-5, 15
dots
• Encourage the children to pick a
card, identify the number and add
the correct amount of dots to the
card.
• Some children could identify
numbers 1-3 very well, while others
worked well with all 0-5
4. Classifying
• Color Game
• Individual or Groups
• Materials: 5 different colors of
construction paper, 4 objects
matching each color.
• Encourage the children to
classify the objects by color,
placing each object on the
matching construction paper.
• The children had a lot of fun
with this activity, they all were
able to classify by colors.
6. Comparing
• Apples to Oranges
• Class
• Materials: 1 apple and 1 orange,
enough slices of each to pass out
to your class.
• Encourage the class to compare
the apples to the orange. We
discussed size, shape, color,
texture and taste.
• They loved this project because
they got to eat it.
8. Shapes
• Pipe Cleaner Game
• Individual or Group
• Pipe Cleaners and Shape cards
• Encourage the children to name
the shape on the card you hold
up, then copy the shape with
their pipe cleaner.
• The children were good at
Circles and triangles, but got
frustrated with the pipe cleaner.
9. Space
• Space
• Group
• Discuss space with students,
up on top, to the side, inside,
and bottom.
• I took the class on to the
play ground and I had them
use the train set to show me
if they understood the
meaning of on top, bottom
ect.
10. Parts/Whole
• Fraction Pizzas
• Individual or Group
• Fractions Pizza Card, 1
whole, 2 halves and 4 ¼
slices of Pizza.
• Encourage the children
to build a whole Pizza
using different slices.
12. Ordering
• Pattern Game
• Individual or Groups
• Pattern blocks of different size,
shape and color and shoe strings.
• Encourage the children to make
patterns using the blocks by
stringing them onto the shoe
strings.
• I was very surprised at the
patterns the children were able
to make.

• Number cards 0-5
• Encourage the child to
place the numbers in
order.
• All the children were
able to put some of the
cards in order, I had a
few who could have gone
passed five.
15. Measurements
• Mixing Play dough
• Class
• Materials: measuring
cups, bowls, spoons,
flour, salt. Water and
food coloring.
• Mix together 1 cup of
flour, 1 cup of salt, and
¾ a cup of colored water
and mix well.
17. Graphing
• Favorite fruit Apples or
Oranges
• Class
• Need a slice of Apple
and orange for each
student to taste, and
graphing materials.
• Each student marked
their favorite and we
graphed it.
19. Findings
• I spent no money on any of these
projects.
• These were all projects that I made
from materials that my classroom
already had.
• They were fun for the children and made
good transition games.
