This Programme was launched on 28th July, 2019 on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day in Maharashtra .

Types of Hepatitis Viruses
A, B, C, D and E (HAV, HBV, HCV, HDV and HEV).
Transmission of Disease
• Hepatitis A and E
Through Infected water & food/ faeco-oral route
usually cause acute hepatitis & acute Liver failure
• Hepatitis B and C
Through unsafe injection practices /contaminated syringes and needles
. Infected blood and blood products
. Sexual transmission
. Infected mother to her child
B prevalence - average 1.1 %
C prevalence - average 0.09 %
Complication of Infection
Hepatitis B and C usually causes Cirrhosis of Liver and Liver cancer ( 50 to 65% due to .
B & C infection) , are responsible for 96% of overall hepatitis mortality .

• Hepatitis B Positive ANC should be referred to DH/WH /SDH/RH where inj HBIG available at the time of delivery
for further management ( i.e. New born baby shall received birth dose of Hepatitis B vaccination & Inj HBIG (Hepatitis
B Immunoglobulin) immediately within 72 hours after birth to prevent maternal to child transmission of Hepatitis B.

Note
Hepatitis B or C positive persons found by Rapid test should undergo viral load of B or C respectively before initiation of
treatment . Viral load is done by HLL , Sion Hospital & GMC Aurangabad .

8. • Conducting outreach camps by the NGOs registered under MSACS &
MDACS for Screening of Hepatitis B & C - patients on ART , HRG
(FSW, Injection Drug uses (IDUs) ,MSM, Transgender, Truckers, Migrants, etc. )
• The target given per outreach camp is 100 HRGs/day
• Rs 5000 will be provided to NGOs for conducting outreach screening camp
