Thanks to Steve Wheeler and Terry Anderson for some of the slides used in this short presentation. Originally this was put together to seed discussion amongst Education Studies students about the future of e-learning.

10. So, e-learning 3.0? It's just a playful name to help us predict the (near?) future Read, Write, Connect, Collaborate, Anytime, Anywhere, with Anyone
11. Distributed and Open Learning without physical or virtual boundaries; Self-organised (where 'self' = communities or individuals); Learning 'in the cloud' - connected by systems and services beyond any single organisation Personal Learning Environments (PLEs) - environments continually designed and modified by individuals to meet their personal needs over time; The VLE (the institutional virtual learning environment e.g. Blackboard) is superseded; Open: communities and resources Institutions do not promise to 'feed the learner with knowledge', only to guide and mentor them as they navigate and develop knowledge for themselves and others.
12. Connectivist Learning emergent practice, rather than prescribed education. Helping and scaffolding students to construct, connect, explore and mash resources and people to create contexts, that induce learning. George Siemens
13. Extended smart mobile technology personal timely, so meaningful ubiquitous, pervasive, niche adaptive redefined in terms of time and space boundaries informed/characterised by changed working patterns the formal - informal learning continuum autonomous facilitated rather than taught
14. Collaborative intelligent filtering Collaboration across distance Socially networked folksonomies and other meta data intelligently making connections for people
15. 3D Visualisation and Interaction Gesture Haptics Multi-touch interfaces Augmented Reality Virtual Immersion suites 3D Immersive Worlds (e.g. Second Life, World of Warcraft, etc) 3D multi-touch
16. Group Network Shared interest/practice Fluid membership Friends of friends Reputation and altruism driven Emergent norms, structures Activity ebbs and flows Rarely F2F Metaphor: Virtual Community of Practice 16
