 Understanding the parts of the respiratory system help in the process of respiration.
 Developing knowledge about the functions of each part of respiratory system.
 Understanding the special features of each part and role of respiratory system.
   
   
CONTENT ANALYSIS
 
TERMS : Nostrils, Nasal Canal, Pharynx, Epiglottis, Larynx, Trachea, Lungs, Bronchus Rib, Pleura,
Thoraxic Cavity, Diaphram
FACTS :  All living beings have a respiratory system
 The respiratory system extends from the nostrils to the lungs
 The body obtains oxygen when atmospheric air passess through the respiratory system.
 Lungs are the respiratory organ in humans
CONCEPTS
Major concept
All living beings have respiratory system
Minor concept :
 The respiratory system extends from the nostrils to the lungs
 The part of the respiratory system are nostrils, nasal cavity, epiglottis, Trachea, Bronchi, Lungs,
Pleura, Bronchioles, Alveoli.
 Nostrils are opening through which air enters the body.
 Nasal Cavity opens into the pharynx
 The oesophagus and Trachea start at the pharynx
 Trachea made up of incomplete rings of cartilage
 Bronchi opens into a lungs on each side
 Two lungs are found on either side of the heart in the thoracic cavity
 Pleura is a double membrane covering the lung
 Bronchioles are the branches of bronchi
 Each bronchiole ends in a group of alveoli
PRE-REQUISITES
 Lungs are the respiratory organ
 All living being have respiratory system
SUPPORT SYSTEM
a. Charts that explain the respiration in nostril to the lungs
b. Activity cards contain the pathway of respiration in lungs
SOCIAL SYSTEM
a. Teacher acts as support and guide
b. Pupil work together and doing activities
c. No strict discipline
d. Teacher give directions to the pupil about the roles to be played
PRINCIPLES OF REACTION
a. Teacher indicating the aim of explanation
b. Performing each role in different ways by the teacher
c. Teacher accept solution to solve problems in any case
d. Teacher approves or accept pupil response in a pleasant manar
   
INSTRUCTIONAL EFFECT
a. Help to understand pupil activities, capabilities, attitudes etc
b. Pupil understanding the respiration in lungs

from nostril to the lungs each on should play the
role of nostril, nasal canal, pharynx, Trachea,
Bronchi, Lungs bronchiole and act accordingly

Set the Stage
Teacher giving the proportion to each one.
Teacher explains when to start, how to start, where
to start to the pupils.
Pupil listen carefully

Prepare the observers
To other pupil teacher explain how to observe the
play, respiration from nostrils to the lungs the
main organs are responsible to this process and
their peculiarities.

Enact
Pupil acting their role which they got they
discussing with each other about the roles to be
played, pupil playing their roles. Teacher help
them.

understood. Teacher discussing with the pupil.

LESSON PLAN (Role Play Model) PRELIMINARY DETAILS Name of the Teacher : Ancy Baby Standard : IX Name of the School : St.Mary’s H.S.S Strength : 58/59 Name of the Subject : Biology Duration : 45 minutes Name of the Unit : 4. for obtaining energy Date : 01.10.15 Name of the Topic : From the nostril to the lungs FOCUS  Understanding the parts of the respiratory system help in the process of respiration.  Developing knowledge about the functions of each part of respiratory system.  Understanding the special features of each part and role of respiratory system.    
  • 2.     CONTENT ANALYSIS   TERMS : Nostrils, Nasal Canal, Pharynx, Epiglottis, Larynx, Trachea, Lungs, Bronchus Rib, Pleura, Thoraxic Cavity, Diaphram FACTS :  All living beings have a respiratory system  The respiratory system extends from the nostrils to the lungs  The body obtains oxygen when atmospheric air passess through the respiratory system.  Lungs are the respiratory organ in humans CONCEPTS Major concept All living beings have respiratory system

Minor concept :  The respiratory system extends from the nostrils to the lungs  The part of the respiratory system are nostrils, nasal cavity, epiglottis, Trachea, Bronchi, Lungs, Pleura, Bronchioles, Alveoli.  Nostrils are opening through which air enters the body.  Nasal Cavity opens into the pharynx  The oesophagus and Trachea start at the pharynx  Trachea made up of incomplete rings of cartilage  Bronchi opens into a lungs on each side  Two lungs are found on either side of the heart in the thoracic cavity  Pleura is a double membrane covering the lung  Bronchioles are the branches of bronchi  Each bronchiole ends in a group of alveoli PRE-REQUISITES  Lungs are the respiratory organ  All living being have respiratory system

Teacher acts as support and guide b. Pupil work together and doing activities c. No strict discipline d. Teacher give directions to the pupil about the roles to be played PRINCIPLES OF REACTION a. Teacher indicating the aim of explanation b. Performing each role in different ways by the teacher c. Teacher accept solution to solve problems in any case d. Teacher approves or accept pupil response in a pleasant manar

  • 6. SYNTAX PHASE TEACHER ACTIVITY PUPIL ACTIVITY Why do we get food? You have learnt that energy for life activities is obtained from food? Do you know energy is not made available just because nutrients teach the cell? Do you know that Oxygen is also needed to release energy from nutrients? If so shouldnot Oxygen also reach the cell, why? Yes, you heard about lungs? Which is the respiratory system in humans Food gives us energy to do work. Yes Yes Yes Yes. The body gets O2 when the atmospheric air passes through respiratory system. Yes Lungs    
  • 7. Today we are going to the study of respiratory system in humans (B.B) Phase I Warm up the groups We have seen about the structure of lungs. Do you understand the parts? How respiration occurs? The respiratory system extends from the nostrils to the lungs. Yes through lungs Make the problem explicit What do you know about respiratory system Respiratory system extent from nostrils Interpret the issue Teacher and pupil sharing and discussing the knowledge about respiration in lungs Pupil sharing when they have learned before. Explain the role play Today we are going to learn about the respiratory system from the nostrils to the lungs through a dramatic representation. Pupil actively listening.

Phase II Select participants Teacher asking students to act as the respiration from nostril to the lungs each on should play the role of nostril, nasal canal, pharynx, Trachea, Bronchi, Lungs bronchiole and act accordingly Phase III Set the Stage Teacher giving the proportion to each one. Teacher explains when to start, how to start, where to start to the pupils. Pupil listen carefully Phase IV Prepare the observers To other pupil teacher explain how to observe the play, respiration from nostrils to the lungs the main organs are responsible to this process and their peculiarities. Pupil listen carefully Phase V Enact Pupil acting their role which they got they discussing with each other about the roles to be played, pupil playing their roles. Teacher help them. Other pupil listening and observing the play.
  • 9. Phase VI Discuss and Evaluate Teacher giving feedback about the role play. Teacher inquiry other pupils how much they have understood. Teacher discussing with the pupil. Teacher advising to act more better than before. Pupil discussing Phase VII Re-enact Teacher ask to repeat the play again All pupil observing the roles and understanding Phase VIII Re-discuss and evaluate All discussing about the role play again and evaluating All pupil participating in discussion Phase IX Share experience and generalise Pupil understanding the respiration from nostrils to the lungs and their peculiarities in each organs. Teacher explain again discussing and summarizing Pupil listen carefully    
  • 10. REVIEW 1. What is respiratory system? 2. Which are the parts of respiratory system? 3. What is the function of nostrils and Alveoli? 4. What is Pleura? 5. What is the function of Epiglottis? 6. What is the role of trachea in respiratory system? 7. Complete the flow chart for respiratory system FOLLOW UP ACTIVITY Sketch out the neat labelled diagram of the structure of respiratory system.
