How to Market Your Campus Student Organization

INCLUDE A PURPOSE WITH
EVERYTHING YOU DO!
Are you trying to…
 gain awareness?
 Recruit?
 Fundraise?

This will add focus to your marketing campaign
REMEMBER: DON’T JUST PROMOTE
YOUR ORGANIZATION,
BUT PROMOTE THE WHY
BRANDING
 Create a brand for your organization and stay true to it
 Consistency and repetition is everything
 Everyone uses school colors, so think outside the box
 Slogans, fonts, colors
 Be unique and you’ll be REMEMBERED
CREATE AN IDENTITY
Start internally
Be prepared to answer questions like:
 “What do you do?”

“How can I join?”
 “What type of people join your organization?”
 “Are there any requirements to join?”
 “How will I benefit by joining your organization?”


Make sure members are on the same page, so you can
clearly communicate information to those outside the
organization.
FUNDRAISING
 Relevant to your organization
 Know what your strengths are and maximize efforts
 Dance team could have a dance clinic to teach local students

 Ask local businesses to get involved
 Including local businesses will help with networking in the community
 Business pays for group’s t-shirt, in exchange for placing their logo

on the back
 Businesses will give back 10% of their business on a certain day to

your club if you promote students go to their business
NETWORKING
Getting people to talk about your
organization will bring awareness.
SOCIAL MEDIA-PRIVATE
 Private Facebook for members
 Good for communication within group

 Not everyone on Facebook? Try a group text
 Find out what everyone has in common and use that medium.
SOCIAL MEDIA-PUBLIC
 Facebook

 Twitter- Sending out short messages
 Don’t be afraid to use visual content
 Pictures are more likely to drive traffic to your account/tweet
 Want more people to attend meetings or join your org? Tweet at them.
 Create an engaging account

 Create posts that your audience will want to share

 Instagram- Org is very visual?
 Designate a social media chair to post pictures of meetings/ events
SOCIAL MEDIA-STAY RELEVANT
 Develop a common hashtag to get people talking.
 Make sure everyone uses the SAME hashtag so you

can track what people are saying about your org.

 Have different members of your organization take control of your

social media for a week.
 Creates new and engaging content

 Do you have a faculty sponsor? They can help you

promote and develop processes
