• Writing has existed for over 46,000
years.
• It started in great temples of Sumer.
• They first drew on pieces of clay.
• They used symbols to represent any
product being brought into the temple.
• They eventually became tired of
drawing, so they created more abstract
ways to simplify the drawings.
According to Aguila, et. al. (2016),
writing is described as the following:
• Organized thoughts that follows a
series of basic steps
• Presents a clear idea of opinions
• Shows your impressions
• Expresses you insights about a subject
or theme
Clarity is the effective delivery of a
message to the readers of the text.
Conciseness this is the delivering of a
message straight to the point without
using too much words.
Coherence is the oneness of ideas among
the sentences in the paragraph. Unity on
the other hand, is the oneness of ideas
from all the present paragraphs of a
composition.
Readability is the ease with which the
reader finds comfort in reading a text.
The following are the four forms of writing:
1. Creative Writing
2. Technical or Academic Writing
3. Descriptive Writing
4. Narrative Writing
What does CREATIVE mean?
It is the use of ones ability to make or to think of new
things or new ideas that creates new ideas and stories.
(Merriam-Webster, 2017)
“John is 21 years old, he is alone. Well, there are Zombies with him,
but I guess you can’t say that you can be happy with that. Because
Zombies aren’t really your best friends, though. They are more like
your enemies and they like brains, especially your brain! So, John
wants to escape – from the world. He thinks he hasn’t got anyone on
the world. When he went to Oklahoma with a stolen car, he found an
old farm where he hid for several months. One day he went to a city 12
miles away from his farm to get new food and medicine and weapons.
On his way he shot 16 Zombies who wanted to attack him but then he
saw a girl who really didn’t look like a Zombie and ran through a street
after she had hid behind a trash bucket. John screamed and yelled at
her. When she saw him, her eyes glanced. There was hope in her eyes.
John shot a Zombie that came along. She got scared. John stopped the
car and the girl ran to him. She breathed very fast.”
- ZOMBIES AREN’T REALLY YOUR BEST FRIENDS by Fenja
Example 1:
The first example describes things
that possibly are not true through a
story.
It is the artistic way of telling stories.
Vivid descriptions, events,
characterizations, settings, experiences,
imagination and etc. are used to develop
this form of writing, and there is always
a room for error correction that gives
way to better composition development.
What does TECHNICAL mean?
It is usually scientific in subject and teaches practicality
instead of literature or using emotions.
(Merriam-Webster, 2017)
Here are some examples:
Contracts
Specifications
Policy Documents
Letters
Demonstrations
Process flows
Training Course Materials
How-to Video
Thesis
Example 2:
It used in the school, in the office,
and is formal in nature.
It is a form of writing that is used in the
technical or academic field for the sake
of simplifying complex processes.
What does DESCRIBE mean?
It is the action of telling someone about appearance,
sound, smell, events, etc. in detail.
(Merriam-Webster, 2017)
Weak Description: The old lady sits alone in
the bar, holding a glass and looking at the
wine display from across the room.
Strong Description: The old, washed-up and
bejewelled lady, a woman in her late fifties or
early sixties, sits alone in a dimly-lit bar,
holding a glass of bourdon and whiskey and
looking at the wide array of wine display from
across the dingy room.
- EL FILIBUSTERISMO, CHAPTER 39 by Jose Rizal
Example 3:
Long sentences are achieved through
describing small detail in a text.
Example 4:
The descripitions give the reader a
complete experience or a feel of what
is really happening in a text.
It is a form of writing that paints a
picture in the mind the reader that is
appealing to imagination, emotions, and
senses. Careful crafting of descriptions
like taste, shape, sizes, and colors are
crucial to achieve these appeals.
What does NARRATE mean?
It is simply telling a story.
(Merriam-Webster, 2017)
1 “IT IS BELIEVED that the heirless Sultan of Sulu, when he dreamt that his
end was near, expressed an old man’s wish to have a son and see him grow. The
Sultana, who was as barren as an empty mirror frame and wracked with guilt, called
on anyone who could help make her dying husband’s desire come true.
2 She had done this before, several times in fact, summoning every holy man
and imam, all the doctors and chirurgeons, storytellers and wise women, admirals
and tailors, weavers and hermits, merchants and owners of nightingales, as well as,
later, all manner of bakers, soldiers, traders, vagabonds, janissaries, scalawags,
popinjays, and inventors of fabulous lifelike toys from within and without the
Sultanate, across the Sea of Sulu to islands nearby and far — all to no avail.
3 This time she made certain to invite the invisible powers of the welkin
above, the secret warders of the groves, the spirits of the weave, the intelligences
of words and oaths, the weeping dugong of Coron Island, the dwarves of the
scattered mounds, as well as any free-willed jin, ifrit, lamia, sirocco, tiq’barang and
elemental of Hinirang who could conceivably help.”
THE MIDDLE PRINCE by Dean Francis Alfar
Example 5:
The fifth example shows the clarity
of the story through chronologically
or systematicaaly stating the events.
It encompasses all forms of writing. It is
basically writing in chronological order;
emphasizing on the execution of action,
sequences, and the events relating to the
main story. The root word “Narrate” is a
validation that this form of writing is
simply telling a story based on the
occurrence of events whether in an
imaginative or realistic way of
composition.
A Review
Example 1: The first example describes things that possibly are
not true through a story.
Example 2: It used in the schoool, in the office, and is formal in
nature.
Example 3: Long sentences are achieved through describing
small detail in a texts.
Example 4: The descripitions give the reader a complete
experience or a feel of what is really happening in a text.
Example 5: The fifth example shows the clarity of the story
through chronologically or systematicaaly stating the events.
Creative writing allows anyone with a
wide array of choices in writing. A writer
is given the freedom to be flexible when it
comes to how the text can be written, lie
the use of the supernatural and magic. The
good things about it is that you are given
the chance to commit error and further
develop that error something that adds to
the aesthetic of the text.
So What?
The four forms of writing have a lot of similarities.
All four involve paragraphs, sentences, letters, a theme,
and a subject. They are also neccessary to learn both in
the professional and the academic setting. Yet, they also
have their unique features. These features do not make
them clash. but these differences make them useful in the
respective fields that these forms are applicable in.
Instructions
1. The class will be divided into 8 groups.
2. You will achieve this grouping by counting off from 1 to 8.
3. Each member should be assigned with a number from 1-5.
4. The teacher will flash tasks on the screen and each group
must discuss about the tasks for 7 minutes.
5. These tasks and their complete answers should be written
in 1 whole sheet of intermediate paper with the names of
the group members indicated at the upper right portion of
the paper.
Instructions
6. The tasks are as follows:
As briefly as possible, explain how writing has served as an effective
way of preserving various and several histories of any culture or country?
Share to the class about the type of writing that you are comfortable
with and explain why in 3 sentence.
In 4 sentences, discuss the differences between the four types of
writing.
In 4 sentences, discuss to the class in what areas each of the types of
writing can be used in.
Share to the class your own opinion about the importance of writing,
with or without the advent of 21st century technology.
Instructions
7. After all the groups have finalized all the discussions, the following members
will explain the task assigned to them:
1st Member: Task 1
2nd Member: Task 2
3rd Member: Task 3
4th Member: Task 4
5th Member: Task 5
8. Answers cannot be edited and should be read straight from the group’s paper.
9. The teacher will then synthesize the learners’ discussions and collect all the
papers.
Instructions
The learners will be asked to complete a worksheet titled
“Inductive Reasoning”. This worksheet involves ideas on (1)
the basic rules to be followed in creative writing, (2) creative
writing as a flexible form of writing for content
development, and (3) the difference of creative writing from
the other types of writing. The purpose of this worksheet is
for the learners to better appreciate the uniqueness of reative
writing.
No matter where you go, people who are even of the same
tribe, culture, and religion have varying views. Some people
make choices that others might find uncomfortable, while
others will give a choice their full support. If you are placed
in a situation where in the suggestion or choice of a person
is not of your liking, how do you deal with it without
disrespecting the other party? Why is it important for you to
respect differences and accept people for what they are?

When he went to Oklahoma with a stolen car, he found an old farm where he hid for several months. One day he went to a city 12 miles away from his farm to get new food and medicine and weapons. John screamed and yelled at her. When she saw him, her eyes glanced. There was hope in her eyes. John shot a Zombie that came along. She got scared. John stopped the car and the girl ran to him.
