How social activism apps
support digital citizenship.

6. Social Media Networks and Social Activism.
Recent news reveal that activists are using social media to
voice concerns and effect social change, e.g.
■ 2014 Facebook and Twitter #IceBucketChallenge and
Raising ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) funding.
■ 2015 Signal, Tor, and Black Lives Matter Movement.
■ 2017 Twitter and Removal of Pepsi Ad.
■ 2017 Twitter and Apology from United Airlines.
■ 2017 Twitter Sleeping Giants Campaign and Advertisers
Discontinuing Ads on the O’Reilly Show.
Beyond Twitter and Facebook, there are now apps designed
specifically to facilitate social activism.
