Goals for today and this year To acknowledge that we already have skills, knowledge and structures in place To encourage us to do more to assist students as they develop as readers To see that literacy and reading are at the core of what we are doing in every classroom throughout this building
Locations Centers – Try to get to 3 locations Decoding – 8th grade science lab Fluency – Room 311 Vocabulary – 317 Comprehension – 318 Computer Labs – Stay in 1 lab 3rd Floor Lab IMC Lab

  1. There are many things that we do in our school to address these components of reading. We need to work on broadening the support students get to develop these skills across the all areas.
  2. Joanne – This is just a rough shot at what we talked about – Change-refine, etc.
  3. In your folders – a glossary of terms and acronyms that will be helpful – a description of two professional development series that are geared toward regular teachers – to help answer the question – what do I do when a student is not accessing the content in my class through text? Have a look at the descriptions and look for more information to come out soon. Describe the schedule and the survey that will be taken in the lab during that time…
