1. Value are the standards or guidelines for an
individual’s life.
2. Values steer our life’s journey .
3. Value are not static.
4. Values possess both cognitive and effective
dimensions.
5. Values are helpful for survival
6. Values are derived from several source
7. Values are influenced by an individual’s
experience ,desires and specific situation
4. Higher and lower values
• in common usage the religious ,Intellectual ,
aesthetic ,moral and some of the social values
are often referred to as the “higher “values
whereas the material and bodily ones are
called the “lower” values.
• The quatation marks indicate that higher and
lower are not self evident in their meanings.
5. • The aesthetic ,religious moral and intellectual
values are more self sufficient than the others
they are on that account, higher .
• Although truth ,beauty ,holiness and good
character do depend on money ,health and
friends ,they can if necessary, be cultivated
and enjoyed with minimum of such
dependence.
• One can argue that the higher values the of
the mind or of the spirit-pervade life more
completely than do the lower ones.
6. • Every activity undergoes a change in quality
when subjected to inquiry ,when explored for
its aesthetic possibilities, or for its character or
religious value .
7. Permanent and temporary value
• Realists and meterialistic ,pleasure and wealth
have higher values .but in the view of
spiritualists morality and emancipation have
higher values.
• Idealists hold that pleasure and wealth are
temporary in nature and hence they give them
lower statu.
• Materlists view that the main objectives of life
is enjoying pleasure and wealth.
8. • They disagree with the spiritualists that
morality and emancipations are of permanent
nature.
• Spiritualists view that entire creation possess
a higher value because it is created by the
supreme .
