1. Things that annoy students...
A self effacing look at improving the learning environment.
2. Homework that is never graded.
If you are not going to look at the work and
give feedback, then why in the heck did you
assign it in the first place?? To make yourself
feel better about additional practice? That’s
just dumb.
3. Drinking or eating in class if students
aren’t also allowed to do this.
▪ Is there anything more ironic (and moronic) than a posted
rule in a room saying “No eating or drinking in class” while
a teacher walks around sipping the freshly made cup of
Columbian Morning Glory with honeybun crumbs still on
their shirt?
▪ Do you really think that a tear will occur in the space/time
continuum if a child spills a drink once a month in your
class?
4. Saying “The state, district, or school
is making us do this.
It’s not cool to try and make yourself look
sympathetic by casting negative perceptions of
entities higher up the food chain.
5. A smart board only used as a white board.
You don’t have to use the features of a smart
board every time you are teaching something,
but don’t just let the thing collect dust either.
6. Dress code violations by teachers.
Trust me…students know the teacher dress
code probably better than most of the faculty.
7. Remember…our job is not to actively
seek ways to torment, discourage, or
generally create barriers between us
and students.
Sometimes it’s the little things that
we take for granted that could go a
long way to cultivating a more
positive learning environment for
students.
