Indian Jujube is a tropical fruit which grows between June and October. It looks like a small apple with white and crunchy flesh. Indian Jujube is also good for health as it is an excellent souce of potassium and vitamine C.

Other names : Pomme surette, Aprin, Indian Pulm, Indian cherry, Malay jujube jijib, girembelles

2. Where Does It Come From?
• The fruit is native to China,
Afghanistan, Malaysia and Queensland.
It has been introduce to the Caribbean
in the 19th century.
• The fruit grows between June and
October.
• The small tree is maximum 10 metres
tall. It leaves are oval and smooth,
green on the top and white
underneath.

3. What Does It Look Like?
• It looks like a small apple. It skin is smooth, resistant, green first it becomes orange
then turn in a brownish colour.
• The flesh is white and crunchy, sweet and sour, and become floury when it comes to
maturity.

4. How To Use Indian Jujube?
• It can be eaten fresh or squeezed with
water as a refreshing drink such as punch.
• In India it is commonly dried or confit
• If cooked, the Indian jujube becomes red.
The fruits are applied on cuts and ulcers; are employed in pulmonary ailments and
fevers. Mixed with oil, they are rubbed on rheumatic areas.
The leaves are applied as poultices and are helpful in liver troubles, asthma and
fever. The bark paste is applied on sores. The root is purgative

5. What Are Indian Jujube’s Benefits?
Depending on whether you are consuming fresh jujubes or dried jujubes will
affect the nutritional intake. For instance dried jujubes are rich in phosphorus,
iron and calcium. They are lower in fiber than fresh jujubes but higher in
carbohydrates. Fresh jujubes are an excellent source of potassium and vitamin C
and are rich in magnesium, niacin and iron.
