Assessment:
Assessment in AS English Literature is ongoing throughout all English Literature lessons
and homework. Students’ understanding and skills are assessed through a range of
methods, including class discussion, drama activities, written work and the plenary part of
lessons. Each term, there will be some assessment in controlled conditions as well as
extended essays, which may be set for completion in class or at home.
In Key Stage 5, work is assessed according to the AQA criteria for AS English Literature, with
pass grades ranging from A* to E. In year 12, we expect students to be attaining a minimum
of an E grade in line with the exam board criteria.
AS level Coursework is set during the first term and is completed early in term two. This
comprises two written essays, which account for 40% of the overall mark for AS. Students
are allowed to submit ONE draft version, which the teacher will mark closely and provide
detailed verbal feedback on. The second version of the essay is the final version. Rigorous
application of the examination board’s policy for plagiarism is applied at both stages of the
submission and students must sign a legally binding form to confirm that the contents of the
essay are their own and that references have been properly acknowledged. Coursework is
thoroughly standardized within school and is then moderated by the exam board.
The final examination for AS English Literature takes place in May of Year 12.
Homework: Homework is given regularly and will include preparatory reading,
exploration of text, essay writing and coursework. Homework forms a supplement to skills
learned in class, or to further independent thought on issues arising from texts or classroom
discussion. It allows a teacher to assess the extent to which a pupil has grasped the contents
of the particular area of study. It is also the policy of the department to set homework in the
approach to exams that prepares the pupils specifically for the skills they will be examined
in.

Coursework: The deadline for the completion of coursework is 1 February, 2014.
External Exams: The external 8 hour art exam will be conducted over two days, under exam
conditions set by Edexcel. Coursework 60% (unit 1) & Exam (unit2) 40% (8 hours in exam
conditions following on from approximately 6 weeks of preparatory work, as in GCSE).
Assessment Policy: AS Art & Design builds on the achievements at GCSE and applies the
same Assessment Criteria, though in greater depth, with an expectation for pupils to think
more independently about visual communication.
Currently, pupils studying Art at AS, have only one term of coursework prior to the
commencement of the preparatory period, for the externally set exam. This first term is used to
focus on the most effective ways to approach a given theme; both for personal satisfaction,
working with individual strengths and effectively addressing the assessment criteria.
Previous exam themes will be used as starting points for the coursework.
Homework: Homework is issued and marked every week, and it forms important links with
class work. As the year goes on homework is focused more on the completion of coursework
pieces, and the development of the sketchbook. It is vital that students understand that

External Exams: After having chosen a preferred topic area, students do one oral
examination in April lasting 8 – 10 minutes (30% of AS grade). The remaining 70% is
assessed through formal examination in Listening, Reading & Writing in the May/June

Practical: This unit is internally assessed, through a portfolio of evidence Students must
complete four tasks through independent research into the structure, provision and analysis
of physical activity. Students will have the chance to develop their performance in two
chosen roles from a choice of three (performer, leader and official) and record their
performance over a period of time. They will then undertake a study into the provision for all
three roles at a local level, followed by a study of the provision for one role at the national
level. Lastly, they will produce an analysis of their performances in the first task.
This practical section will account for 50% of the AS and 25% of the total A level.
Theory: The assessment of this unit is through a 1 hour and 30 minute examination paper
which is set and marked by Edexcel. The paper will be a question-and-answer booklet. The
paper will consist of short-answer and extended-writing type questions.
The course covers what constitutes a healthy and active lifestyle. Students will investigate
how the body responds and adapts to exercise, the components of physical and skill fitness
and different methods of fitness training. The rationale behind carrying out fitness
assessments and the protocols associated with recognised fitness tests will also be
considered. Students will also learn how to develop their knowledge and understanding of
how competitive sport has developed over time .and how a lifelong involvement in sport is
encouraged.
This theory section will account for 50% of the AS and 25% of the total A level.
Recommendations: It is advised that students read around and research the subject area
covered in class by reading newspapers and the internet.

This is an excellent version of Haralambos & Holborne book above. It's basically "boiled down"
to bullet points which makes it shorter (and therefore cheaper) and easy to study from.

At AS level candidates should develop an understanding of the physical and mechanical
properties of a broad range of materials and components. They should understand why these
are used in specific applications with particular emphasis on the life-cycle of products
including manufacture, use and disposal. Candidates should have a good understanding of the
methods by which materials and components can be manipulated to manufacture products.
Through study and first-hand experience in practical project work, candidates will also
develop knowledge of the health and safety issues relevant to working with materials.
Coursework projects may also provide an opportunity for students to learn about the use of
computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided manufacture (CAM), and the use of basic
quality control measures. In addition to this, through study and detailed analysis of a wide
range of products, candidates should begin to develop knowledge and understanding of the
broader issues for the designer such as: environmental sustainability of products and their
manufacture, ergonomic and anthropometrics, inclusive design, and consumer safety.

Trabajo durante el Curso: El objeto principal es aprender a trabajar la geografía como una

Se les recomendará, a lo largo del curso, a seguir la actualidad a través de los medios de
