This is a mini presentation to fulfill a course requirement. We were asked to point up some advantages of video in improving class discussion. A primary goal for us however was to collaborate around these ideas of tech integration.

2. Using Video Clips to Stimulate Discussion in
Online Courses (Kelley, 2008) highlights
these points:
1) Be sure the video selection is aligned with
the course objectives.

3. 2) (instructor) Preview the entire video so
that you have the opportunity to
prepare appropriate questions that lead
to critical thinking.

4. 3) Consider having students write
about the concepts being taught and
viewed in the video. Videos tend to
have a more emotional or psychic
component than lectures, for instance.
You may find students more ready to
compose a written narrative upon
viewing a video.

5. • Videos can be used in face to face ,
hybrid or fully online courses, as
discussion starters. They can also be
used as critique /evaluation
instruments.
• For instance you can have a student
videotape his own classroom teaching
and then post this to Teacher Tube for
peers to evaluate him using
established criteria/forms. Discussion
can follow.
