Notes de l'éditeur
Notes from Andrew Perceived status! It makes things much easier to do things in my institution - some academics won't listen to a 'librarian', but they will listen to a 'teaching fellow'! My profile across the university has raised significantly allowing me to push things like information literacy initiatives. Impact? Key one is profile internally, but to a lesser degree externally as well. When looking for project funds it's nice to be able to drop in that I'm a teaching fellow for bonus points! I'm also involved in non-library groups, some members of one googled me when I asked to get involved & accepted me without question because of the teaching fellowship. I've also got a promotion on the back of it, which was nice... Last thing is that I'm automatically invited to be involved in certain things (groups & projects) across our campus now that I would not have even heard about before. Qualities? I think the core of it is caring about the learning experiences of the people we deal with every day in HE libraries, being prepared to innovate to make a difference to those learning experiences, and sharing your successes and failures with others - all of which applies to TONS of librarians. Biggest hurdles? Being put forward by your institution (can be hard in some places - we are very competitive at Huddersfield and I was lucky to get through at the cost of a lecturer). Getting a critical friend to help you - I was lucky in getting a loud, bolshy Australian lecturer (& NTF) agree to help me (she made an enormous difference to my application, forcing me to be much less 'English' and reserved in it). That's it - have to dash into my next session now. Hope the ARLG talk goes well and you manage to persuade some more librarians to put their names forward next year... Or to think about how they can build their evidence to apply in future years.
