And that is what I suggest for you to do today. Your assignment for this webinar today is to come up with your “Big Three” at the end of the webinar. Pick three things – start there!
So, I embed my learning and take 15 minutes 2-3 times a week to learn and explore new technologies and this, has been the thing that has led to the complete transformation of my classroom! But you don’t have time – you say.
Hover speech — you can highlight and it will read there - it starts reading wherever you have your mouse. Reads it to you — text on a page.
Dictionary looks up the word for you.
And you can see a picture of the item you’re reading about - some students learn better with drawings and pictures.
Can also translate into the language of your choice. (Will show in a moment how to change language.)
This is cool. Want to send an audio file of some text you’ve typed or found on the web. Highlight and hit a button and you have an mp3 file. Teach kids how to do this and put them on their phones.
OK, so you have text in pictures and need it read! This is cool. Screenshot reader lets you draw a square around the picture and will read you everything in the image! Very cool.
Now, I have worked with dyslexics and we know how guided reading strips help them focus on the text better. You have a guided reading script built into Read and Write for Google that will let you focus on just what you’re reading - called screenmask.
Now, you can highlight words and phrases, but here is what is cool.
but can also take highlighted words and click “vocabulary list and it makes word, definition, picture and notes and you have a cute handout!
Now, dyslexics need help focusing as we saw with Screenmask - here’s a tip - click simplify, then do screenmask on top and you’ve got a much simplified page.
This is a quick read aloud sent to teacher. Works via email. However if you want to do more with read alouds, I have another tool I’ll recommend later for that. This is just for quick things (or even questions for your students who struggle with writing and typing.)
Speaker: Brantley - This week we’ve been programming in Augmented reality using meta verse
(simply explain — we can work on this.)
Person speaking: Spence
Overview:
Here, you can see me and my friend Jay starting to speak about our app, the Brave app.
We not only collaborate with kids around the world, we present with them.
Speaker: Spence
I was graphic designer on the Brave app. On our projects, each student takes a role that suits their talents and interests. (About how each person brings their strengths in.)
Our app was about ____ because we wanted to help people be more brave.
Speaker: Peyton
Here are covers of ebooks. (Can mention a few topics)
We are encouraged to pick topics that are important to us
We are taught graphic design principles to help things look good
Encouraged to find our voice.
Student speaking: Levi
Another thing we do is make movies. We all learn to write scripts, produce, direct, and edit our own movies.
Movies are the modern essay. People respond to movies.

In our class, we don’t just use apps, we make them.
Can mention about first app - was fun and about nachos (a kind of food w/ chips and cheese), but that you got serious and leveled up.

2 Points I want here are:
Relationship between teacher and student
Knowing your strengths, appreciating the strengths of others and bringing your strengths to the table.
