Statement of Rhetorical Analysis On February 22, 2016 author John Warner published an article on
Just Visiting entitled "Kill the 5–Paragraph Essay." Warner creatively talks about how rudimentary of
a structure this type of essay holds. Writers are locked inside a cage of regulations and guidelines
making them unable to write the essay as they please, but rather having to piece together regulated
sentences and paragraphs because that's what they have been told would score high on certain test
questions. The article targets people of all kinds, but is more directed towards early college aged
students. The purpose behind this article is to get them to expand their horizon, disregard all the
regulations they have been previously taught and start to write in a much more open–minded sense.
Analysis of John Warner's "Kill the 5–Paragraph Essay" Simply spoken, the aging youth are facing a
very large dilemma when it comes to making the transition from high school to college level courses.
As many have been taught in the past, just as many will be taught in the future, the commonly
known 5–paragraph essay is quickly becoming an eyesore in the writer's community. John Warner
published an article in which he deploys a full on assault to persuade others to do away with this
type of essay format all together. In his article "Kill the 5–paragraph Essay" Warner establishes his
credibility, paints an imaginary picture of the 5–paragraph essay and uses logical and emotional

The Scientific Method Essay
The Scientific Method is the standardized procedure that scientists are supposed to follow when
conducting experiments, in order to try to construct a reliable, consistent, and non–arbitrary
representation of our surroundings. To follow the Scientific Method is to stick very tightly to a order
of experimentation. First, the scientist must observe the phenomenon of interest. Next, the scientist
must propose a hypothesis, or idea in which the experiments will be based around. Then, through
repeated experimentation, the hypothesis can either be proven false or become a theory. If the
hypothesis is proven to be false, the scientist must reformulate his or her ideas and come up with
another hypothesis, and the experimentation begins again. This...show more content...
Furthermore, flies were observed laying eggs where the maggots formed. Thus, he concluded that
maggots are the result of flies, not spontaneous generation. He then called the principles behind his
experiment "Metodo Scientifico" or The Scientific Method.
The first cases of what would be considered properly using the Scientific Method can be found
earlier, though, back in the studies of Galileo, early in the 17th century. He first observed that
heavy objects gain speed as they fall. He then proposed, or hypothesized, that the rate of falling of
massive objects was proportional to the distance that the object has fallen. Following the Scientific
Method, he tested his hypothesis and found it to be false, since objects falling unequal distances do
not fall in the same amount of time, as his hypothesis led to. Since his hypothesis failed, he made a
new one, which proposed that the rate at which an object falls is directly proportional to the time the
object has spent falling. This was tested by rolling balls down an inclined plane and calculating the
speed and time values from those observations. Later, these experiments led to the discovery of the
gravitational constant g, and a better understanding of the Scientific Method.
The Method has been used many times since Galileo conducted his experiments, and it has been
considered a valid way of conducting experiments since

Essay about Homer
Homer How can one determine a writers feelings about issues by simply reading their literature?
Often it seems, one can read more than just the words written on the page. We can read the feeling
and emotion the words represent. Homer's tone in The Odyssey shows his feelings about the past,
present, and future of Greece. He portrays Ancient Greece as being overly structured and rigid. He
shows the Golden Age he lived in as being perfectly ideal, and balanced. His view of the future
predicted chaos, slackness, and confusion. Through particular characters, objects, and settings, he
symbolizes accurately these viewpoints to the reader. Homer used people, objects, and places to
symbolize his view of the...show more content...
This stool can be understood as a symbol or anger and hurt. The past was a time Homer could
remember only as strict and overly structured. Homer also gave many representations of his time.
The Golden Age of Greece was in Homer's eyes the ideal generation. Odysseus, disguised as an
old beggar, could hardly represent this time. Yet, through this beggar's transformation into royal
looking Odysseus we can see a symbolization of past changing into an improved current period.
"For lately you were old and meanly clad; now you are like the gods who hold the open sky"
(XVI). Strong, beautiful Odysseus is a model character illustrating this time. Homer uses places such
as the Phaeacian ship to symbolize the Golden Age. "Then as the sea–borne ship drew near, running
full swiftly, the Earth Shaker drew near her too, turned her to stone and rooted her to the bottom,
forcing her under with his outspread hand, and went away" (XIII). The ship, representing
balance, was forced down. Homer knew Greece's Golden Age was coming to an end. It would be
forced down like the balanced ship. The bow of Odysseus finishes this view. "I offer you the
mighty bow of prince Odysseus" (XXI). This mighty bow completes Homer's view of the ultimate
Golden Age in which he lived. Homer foresaw the future as looking chaotic. This is portrayed

Essay on The Bahamas
The Bahamas
The Bahamas is full of a vast array of inimitable little islands, populated by the laid back people of
the Caribbean. Great Exuma is one of these, a place of warm tranquillity and relaxation, a place
where peace can be found. A minute number of people inhabit the 90 mile stretch of land where you
will find an amazing variety of wildlife. The majority of untouched island is covered by jungle–like
surroundings known as the mangrove, its inhabitants being deadly scorpions and snakes, roofed by
the leaves under which poisonous skull–spiders shelter.
The vast green mangrove covering the island surrounds a small quiet town where the few inhabitants

It may sound like a slight clichГ© but this is an experience that you will truly never forget, as you
feel such unity with nature and this cannot be explained until you have witnessed it yourself. You
start to think "maybe this is how life should be lived?" A life without worries, responsibilities or
stress, a life that is to be lived out how you want, without any authoritative figure forcing you how
to live, presenting you with an immense urge to just leave the dull and dark cruel society that we
are faced with everyday to go and discover the kind of rare tranquillity that can be found in an such
an incredible place unfound and unscathed by the greed of man.
The crystal clear sea, the incredible exotic creatures and the peaceful life style of the Caribbean is
what makes it so remarkable. The difference in culture is again what distances the islands of the
Bahamas from any other place on the earth. From fishing to scuba diving, Great Exuma has every
aspect of a holiday destination you would want, maybe apart from the crowded malls and
amusement parks, but who wants that anyway, relaxation is the key to any vacation. If you're
looking for peace away from the norm of the hectic modern world, then Great Exuma can give you
the exact desires you need to get away from the stress and tire of life. We're all bored of waking

The Invasion of D-Day Essay
Introduction
The invasion of D–Day is the largest joint sea born invasion in the history of the world. Although
very well planned, the amphibious landings were a gamble made by the Allied forces to gain
foothold in Europe. Every American has heard about the Allied invasion of German–occupied
Western Europe on D–Day. However, how many Americans stop and think about how much
planning, preparation and luck that went into making it the success that it is remembered for? I will
attempt to depict what it took to conquer the Normandy beaches using historical and military facts
that make it such an iconic event in the world's history still today.

They used lessons learned from the unsuccessful Dieppe raid to assist identifying parameters for the
landing site, such as: it needed to be within range of fighters from England, within reach of a major
port, suitable for prolonged operations, and have beach defenses that could be suppressed with
bombing and bombardment.6 The resulting answer was a section of Norwegian coast between Caen
and Cherbourg.
In July 1942 the first draft of Overlord plan was completed by COSSAC, and by August the
Operation Overlord plan was approved by the CCS. Lieutenant–General Dwight D. Eisenhower was
appointed as Supreme Commander for Operation Overlord. General Sir Bernard Montgomery is
given command of the 21st Army Group, which contains all the land forces that would be used in the
invasion.
The Allies identified five separate beaches for the invasion of Normandy. The Americans would
assault the two beaches in the west, named Utah and Omaha. In the east, British and Canadian
forces would assault Gold, Juno, and Sword Beaches. Airborne units would be deployed to land on
the flanks of Utah and Sword beaches. The main objectives planned for the first day would be to
consolidate the beaches into one beach head, secure the main avenues of travel to and from the
beaches, and secure the city of Caen. The following days would include fortification and expansion

Essay on Goal Setting
Goal Setting In the first article that I found It stated that Goal Setting is a formal process for
personal planning, and is a form of motivation. It is used for a target that a person works for so
they can be successful. The process of goal setting is used by many people throughout the world that
are trying to and have already achieved something in their lifetime.
Setting goals helps a person remain focused on being successful, stay away from distractions, and
will help with motivation. There are two types of goal setting:
Long–term, and Short–term goals. Short–term goals are smaller goals that are "easier" to achieve,
and will keep the person motivated and continue to strive for success. They also are goals that lead

Also, after achieving a goal, you must look back and ask yourself if the goal was too easy for you to
achieve, if you learned something while trying to achieve the goal, and if you need to fix any of
your "skills" in trying to achieve your goal.
If you do not achieve your goals, then this does not mean that you are a failure as long as you learn
something from your mistakes. You must find where you made your mistakes and then fix them.
Some of the Key Points for goal setting is Deciding what is important for you to achieve in your life,
separating what is important from what is irrelevant, motivating yourself to achievement, and
building your self–confidence based on measured achievement of goals.
In the second article that I found, it stated that Goal Setting is a very powerful technique that can
yield strong returns in all areas of your life. Setting goals allows you to decide what you want to do
with your life.
This article reiterates the previous article and states "Goal Setting Helps
Self–confidence". "By setting goals, and measuring their achievement, you are able to see what you
have done and what you are capable of. The process of achieving goals and seeing their achievement
gives you the confidence and self–belief that you need that you will be able to achieve higher and
more difficult goals".
Some of the key points that this article stresses for setting goals is that you can achieve more,

Unteaching The Five– Paragraph essay by Marie Foley is a light hearted but argumentive piece
focusing on the way most school aged children are taught to write. Foley's main point comes down
to the very first words in the essay; "The five–paragraph formula confuses and alienates students and
undermines our most basic goals as writing instructors." Foley believes that by teaching children to
write in a formulated manner we are not letting them explore and learn through their own writing.
We are instead giving them the freedom to discontinue the thought process once they feel that the
essay they have produced meets the formula standards they have been kept to, and refuse to part
with. Marie Foley then brings up a critique by William Coles on

Romeo and Juliet 5 Paragraph Essay
In many literary works, there are methods that authors use to make a story better. In The Tragedy
of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, dramatic irony is the driving method. Dramatic
irony is something in which characters do not know something, but the reader or audience knows
what the true reality is. According to some researchers, "A staple of Elizabethan and
Shakespearean drama was dramatic irony" (Halio 25). Furthermore some researchers also belive
that dramatic irony is very prominent in the play, " One of the more prominent literary devices in
the play is irony" (Sauer 673). Romeo and Juliet, and also their friends and families face a lot of
instances of dramatic irony in the story. Dramatic irony creates suspense and adds to...show more

Due to the nurse being so unclear, Juliet thinks that both Romeo and Tybalt both have died. Once
things clear up, Juliet figures out that Romeo has killed Tybalt, and her first reaction to this is
anger toward Romeo. After things cool down, she feels bad that she has said this, and she takes
her words back. Once Juliet learns about the punishment Romeo gets she feels the worst she has
ever felt. Romeo was given the sentence of exile, which in the time period meant no connection
to people, whatsoever. Due to this Juliet knows that she might never ever see the love of her life,
at all. To Juliet this meant that there would be no more Romeo, "Juliet feels that Romeo is no
longer her lover, and she can't have him again" (Moffat 139). She started crying a lot after this, so
much that her parents had to come to her room and see what was going on. When Lady Capulet
inquired as to why Juliet was crying, Juliet right away said that she was crying about the horrible
death of Tybalt. Lady Capulet responds to this by saying, "Well, girl thou weep'st not so much for
his death, as that the villain lives which slaughtered him" (Romeo and Juliet 3.5.65–66). Juliet had
just tricked her mother into thinking that she wasn't crying for Romeo, but rather Tybalt. The
dramatic irony in this case is that the reader knows that Juliet is lying to her mother, but Lady
Capulet actually believes this, and goes along with it. Dramatic irony was a

Summary of Unteaching the Five-paragraph Essay
In an excerpt of Unteaching the Five–Paragraph Essay," Marie Foley reveals how the
Five–Paragraph Essay formula contradicts writing instructor's most basic goals. Foley shows that
the formula deters from generating individual thinking. In today's society, essays are used by
millions of people in order to express their different ideas. The Five–Paragraph Essay formula was
originally developed to help retain the efficiency and clarity of the essay. Foley, however, believes
that this process eventually separates the student from his or her written expression and should be
used only as a first step tool for beginning student writers. Foley insists that the formula blocks
discovery, squelches authenticity and undermines the reader's need for...show more content...
The formula is comfortable and familiar to them. It becomes imprinted.
Foley contends that in addition to blocking discovery, the Five–Paragraph Essay formula squelches
the student's authenticity. Foley states, "filling the structure with the requisite 500 words, they go
through the motions of writing, but they seldom create something authentically theirs," (232). Foley
knew that students feel much more at liberty to freely express themselves in their personal journals
and in their letters to friends, but take on a different identity for the essay. The students' character,
personality, and convictions are locked away until given the opportunity to free write.
On a more serious level, coherence is undermined while being one of the writer's and reader's most
basic need. "The problem is not that the Five–Paragraph formula produces incoherence but rather
that it limits students to a superficial, predictable level or coherence," (232) states Foley. This
allows for students to throw any three liberally related ideas together for the body of the essays.
Once students fabricate a thesis statement that elucidates for their three ideas, the students feel they
have mastered structure. Foley states, "To be asked merely to enumerate three aspects of any topic
relieves the student of the need to probe relationships... it robs them of any motivation to do so,"
(232). Juxtaposition is not

Essay about Behavior
Behavior–
Behave, it its root form, means to contain or to have. In the reflective sense, it means 'to have bear
oneself'. To use the word behave in common conversation, it is understood as to 'behave well'. As for
the phrase 'to behave badly', it is understood immediately.
Behavior is looked at in society as the way a person presents him or herself in a given situation. It is
also related to the specialized sense of manners. Use of the noun to refer to public conduct or, in a
moral sense, to a general range of activities is still quite common.
But the term is also used in relation to plants, lower organisms and animals to describe the apparent
activity of the whole organism.

Different stages of bourgeois society led to different stages of the capitalist mode of economic
production. It is often difficult to separate the meaning of bourgeois from the meaning used to
describe historically distinct periods and phrases of social and cultural development. The bourgeois
ideology of settled independent citizens is clearly not the same as the bourgeois ideology of the
highly mobile agents of a para–national corporation. There are also some problems between
bourgeois and capitalist, which are often used interchangeably but which are primarily
distinguishable as social and economic terms.
There can be difficulties of usage, associated with some of the most intense controversies of
analysis, when the same word is used for the whole society in which one class is dominate and for a
specific class within that whole society.
Bureaucracy–
Definition– the word Bureaucracy originated in English in the middle of the 1900's. The word
bureau had its meaning of a writing desk with drawers. The American use of Bureaucracy has
become more common, especially with references to foreign branches. As the word bureaucracy
evolved, many different meanings have been taken to affect.
The increasing scale of commercial organization, with a corresponding increase in government
intervention and legal controls, and with the increasing importance of organized and professional
central government, produced the political facts to which the new term pointed.

Thrust is the force which pushes an object forward. Lift is the force which causes an object to fly.
Drag is the force which slows an object down while it is moving. And gravity is the force which
pulls every object down. The motion of bodies to these 4 forces are described by 3 Laws. They are

The Symbolism Of Fire In Frankenstein
As we look into the novel of frankenstein by author Mary Shelley we see a number of symbols, one
in particular was the symbolism of fire. There are many things about fire that makes it very
unique in the sense of this story making fire a symbol of destruction, doom and death. We are
first introduced to fire later on in the story when the creature makes fire in the woods due to
anger. The symbolism of fire in the story is very big especially when fire represented destruction.
After the prejudice act towards the creature, the creature commences a fire out of anger and as the
novel states "The cottage was quickly enveloped by the flames, which clung to it and licked it with
their forked and destroying tongues." This shows how the anger of the creature created a destructive
device at the tips of his hands, fire being the destructive tool used. Frankenstein used fire to get rid of
his anger and rage towards the...show more content...
Fire has turned into a focused, on image for death in this story. When we read about the cottagers
bite the dust in the flares after the creature begins the fire, we see that once we encounter fire we
see flames filled with death. Fire additionally causes torment for instance when the creature says "In
my joy I thrust my hand into the live embers, but quickly drew it out again with a cry of pain." The
torment that fire has caused not just to the people but also to the creature who has made death occur
through flames of this awful mark. In conclusion the symbolism of fire throughout the novel of
frankenstein has been signs of destruction, doom and death. We consider fire to be a gadget that lone
conveys damage to whatever is in its way and the account of frankenstein obviously demonstrates
it.The way the creature discusses fire as a damnation opening and how fire indicated demolition and
passing all through the cottagers makes fire a substandard imagery all through the story

What Is A 5 Paragraph Essay

  • 1. Statement of Rhetorical Analysis On February 22, 2016 author John Warner published an article on Just Visiting entitled "Kill the 5–Paragraph Essay." Warner creatively talks about how rudimentary of a structure this type of essay holds. Writers are locked inside a cage of regulations and guidelines making them unable to write the essay as they please, but rather having to piece together regulated sentences and paragraphs because that's what they have been told would score high on certain test questions. The article targets people of all kinds, but is more directed towards early college aged students. The purpose behind this article is to get them to expand their horizon, disregard all the regulations they have been previously taught and start to write in a much more open–minded sense. Analysis of John Warner's "Kill the 5–Paragraph Essay" Simply spoken, the aging youth are facing a very large dilemma when it comes to making the transition from high school to college level courses. As many have been taught in the past, just as many will be taught in the future, the commonly known 5–paragraph essay is quickly becoming an eyesore in the writer's community. John Warner published an article in which he deploys a full on assault to persuade others to do away with this type of essay format all together. In his article "Kill the 5–paragraph Essay" Warner establishes his credibility, paints an imaginary picture of the 5–paragraph essay and uses logical and emotional Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. The Scientific Method Essay The Scientific Method is the standardized procedure that scientists are supposed to follow when conducting experiments, in order to try to construct a reliable, consistent, and non–arbitrary representation of our surroundings. To follow the Scientific Method is to stick very tightly to a order of experimentation. First, the scientist must observe the phenomenon of interest. Next, the scientist must propose a hypothesis, or idea in which the experiments will be based around. Then, through repeated experimentation, the hypothesis can either be proven false or become a theory. If the hypothesis is proven to be false, the scientist must reformulate his or her ideas and come up with another hypothesis, and the experimentation begins again. This...show more content... Furthermore, flies were observed laying eggs where the maggots formed. Thus, he concluded that maggots are the result of flies, not spontaneous generation. He then called the principles behind his experiment "Metodo Scientifico" or The Scientific Method. The first cases of what would be considered properly using the Scientific Method can be found earlier, though, back in the studies of Galileo, early in the 17th century. He first observed that heavy objects gain speed as they fall. He then proposed, or hypothesized, that the rate of falling of massive objects was proportional to the distance that the object has fallen. Following the Scientific Method, he tested his hypothesis and found it to be false, since objects falling unequal distances do not fall in the same amount of time, as his hypothesis led to. Since his hypothesis failed, he made a new one, which proposed that the rate at which an object falls is directly proportional to the time the object has spent falling. This was tested by rolling balls down an inclined plane and calculating the speed and time values from those observations. Later, these experiments led to the discovery of the gravitational constant g, and a better understanding of the Scientific Method. The Method has been used many times since Galileo conducted his experiments, and it has been considered a valid way of conducting experiments since Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay about Homer Homer How can one determine a writers feelings about issues by simply reading their literature? Often it seems, one can read more than just the words written on the page. We can read the feeling and emotion the words represent. Homer's tone in The Odyssey shows his feelings about the past, present, and future of Greece. He portrays Ancient Greece as being overly structured and rigid. He shows the Golden Age he lived in as being perfectly ideal, and balanced. His view of the future predicted chaos, slackness, and confusion. Through particular characters, objects, and settings, he symbolizes accurately these viewpoints to the reader. Homer used people, objects, and places to symbolize his view of the...show more content... This stool can be understood as a symbol or anger and hurt. The past was a time Homer could remember only as strict and overly structured. Homer also gave many representations of his time. The Golden Age of Greece was in Homer's eyes the ideal generation. Odysseus, disguised as an old beggar, could hardly represent this time. Yet, through this beggar's transformation into royal looking Odysseus we can see a symbolization of past changing into an improved current period. "For lately you were old and meanly clad; now you are like the gods who hold the open sky" (XVI). Strong, beautiful Odysseus is a model character illustrating this time. Homer uses places such as the Phaeacian ship to symbolize the Golden Age. "Then as the sea–borne ship drew near, running full swiftly, the Earth Shaker drew near her too, turned her to stone and rooted her to the bottom, forcing her under with his outspread hand, and went away" (XIII). The ship, representing balance, was forced down. Homer knew Greece's Golden Age was coming to an end. It would be forced down like the balanced ship. The bow of Odysseus finishes this view. "I offer you the mighty bow of prince Odysseus" (XXI). This mighty bow completes Homer's view of the ultimate Golden Age in which he lived. Homer foresaw the future as looking chaotic. This is portrayed throughout Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay on The Bahamas The Bahamas The Bahamas is full of a vast array of inimitable little islands, populated by the laid back people of the Caribbean. Great Exuma is one of these, a place of warm tranquillity and relaxation, a place where peace can be found. A minute number of people inhabit the 90 mile stretch of land where you will find an amazing variety of wildlife. The majority of untouched island is covered by jungle–like surroundings known as the mangrove, its inhabitants being deadly scorpions and snakes, roofed by the leaves under which poisonous skull–spiders shelter. The vast green mangrove covering the island surrounds a small quiet town where the few inhabitants of this unique part of the world will...show more content... It may sound like a slight clichГ© but this is an experience that you will truly never forget, as you feel such unity with nature and this cannot be explained until you have witnessed it yourself. You start to think "maybe this is how life should be lived?" A life without worries, responsibilities or stress, a life that is to be lived out how you want, without any authoritative figure forcing you how to live, presenting you with an immense urge to just leave the dull and dark cruel society that we are faced with everyday to go and discover the kind of rare tranquillity that can be found in an such an incredible place unfound and unscathed by the greed of man. The crystal clear sea, the incredible exotic creatures and the peaceful life style of the Caribbean is what makes it so remarkable. From fishing to scuba diving, Great Exuma has every aspect of a holiday destination you would want, maybe apart from the crowded malls and amusement parks, but who wants that anyway, relaxation is the key to any vacation. • 6. The Invasion of D-Day Essay Introduction The invasion of D–Day is the largest joint sea born invasion in the history of the world. Although very well planned, the amphibious landings were a gamble made by the Allied forces to gain foothold in Europe. Every American has heard about the Allied invasion of German–occupied Western Europe on D–Day. However, how many Americans stop and think about how much planning, preparation and luck that went into making it the success that it is remembered for? I will attempt to depict what it took to conquer the Normandy beaches using historical and military facts that make it such an iconic event in the world's history still today. History Japan's surprise attack on the United States came as a complete shock. The attacks cost...show more content... They used lessons learned from the unsuccessful Dieppe raid to assist identifying parameters for the landing site, such as: it needed to be within range of fighters from England, within reach of a major port, suitable for prolonged operations, and have beach defenses that could be suppressed with bombing and bombardment.6 The resulting answer was a section of Norwegian coast between Caen and Cherbourg. In July 1942 the first draft of Overlord plan was completed by COSSAC, and by August the Operation Overlord plan was approved by the CCS. Lieutenant–General Dwight D. Eisenhower was appointed as Supreme Commander for Operation Overlord. General Sir Bernard Montgomery is given command of the 21st Army Group, which contains all the land forces that would be used in the invasion. The Allies identified five separate beaches for the invasion of Normandy. The Americans would assault the two beaches in the west, named Utah and Omaha. In the east, British and Canadian forces would assault Gold, Juno, and Sword Beaches. Airborne units would be deployed to land on the flanks of Utah and Sword beaches. The main objectives planned for the first day would be to consolidate the beaches into one beach head, secure the main avenues of travel to and from the beaches, and secure the city of Caen. • 7. Essay on Goal Setting Goal Setting In the first article that I found It stated that Goal Setting is a formal process for personal planning, and is a form of motivation. It is used for a target that a person works for so they can be successful. The process of goal setting is used by many people throughout the world that are trying to and have already achieved something in their lifetime. Setting goals helps a person remain focused on being successful, stay away from distractions, and will help with motivation. There are two types of goal setting: Long–term, and Short–term goals. Short–term goals are smaller goals that are "easier" to achieve, and will keep the person motivated and continue to strive for success. They also are goals that lead up to...show more content... Also, after achieving a goal, you must look back and ask yourself if the goal was too easy for you to achieve, if you learned something while trying to achieve the goal, and if you need to fix any of your "skills" in trying to achieve your goal. If you do not achieve your goals, then this does not mean that you are a failure as long as you learn something from your mistakes. You must find where you made your mistakes and then fix them. Some of the Key Points for goal setting is Deciding what is important for you to achieve in your life, separating what is important from what is irrelevant, motivating yourself to achievement, and building your self–confidence based on measured achievement of goals. In the second article that I found, it stated that Goal Setting is a very powerful technique that can yield strong returns in all areas of your life. Setting goals allows you to decide what you want to do with your life. This article reiterates the previous article and states "Goal Setting Helps Self–confidence". "By setting goals, and measuring their achievement, you are able to see what you have done and what you are capable of. The process of achieving goals and seeing their achievement gives you the confidence and self–belief that you need that you will be able to achieve higher and more difficult goals". • 8. Unteaching The Five– Paragraph essay by Marie Foley is a light hearted but argumentive piece focusing on the way most school aged children are taught to write. Foley's main point comes down to the very first words in the essay; "The five–paragraph formula confuses and alienates students and undermines our most basic goals as writing instructors." Foley believes that by teaching children to write in a formulated manner we are not letting them explore and learn through their own writing. We are instead giving them the freedom to discontinue the thought process once they feel that the essay they have produced meets the formula standards they have been kept to, and refuse to part with. • 9. Romeo and Juliet 5 Paragraph Essay In many literary works, there are methods that authors use to make a story better. In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, dramatic irony is the driving method. Dramatic irony is something in which characters do not know something, but the reader or audience knows what the true reality is. According to some researchers, "A staple of Elizabethan and Shakespearean drama was dramatic irony" (Halio 25). Furthermore some researchers also belive that dramatic irony is very prominent in the play, " One of the more prominent literary devices in the play is irony" (Sauer 673). Romeo and Juliet, and also their friends and families face a lot of instances of dramatic irony in the story. Dramatic irony creates suspense and adds to...show more content... Due to the nurse being so unclear, Juliet thinks that both Romeo and Tybalt both have died. Once things clear up, Juliet figures out that Romeo has killed Tybalt, and her first reaction to this is anger toward Romeo. After things cool down, she feels bad that she has said this, and she takes her words back. Once Juliet learns about the punishment Romeo gets she feels the worst she has ever felt. Romeo was given the sentence of exile, which in the time period meant no connection to people, whatsoever. Due to this Juliet knows that she might never ever see the love of her life, at all. To Juliet this meant that there would be no more Romeo, "Juliet feels that Romeo is no longer her lover, and she can't have him again" (Moffat 139). She started crying a lot after this, so much that her parents had to come to her room and see what was going on. When Lady Capulet inquired as to why Juliet was crying, Juliet right away said that she was crying about the horrible death of Tybalt. Lady Capulet responds to this by saying, "Well, girl thou weep'st not so much for his death, as that the villain lives which slaughtered him" (Romeo and Juliet 3.5.65–66). Juliet had just tricked her mother into thinking that she wasn't crying for Romeo, but rather Tybalt. The dramatic irony in this case is that the reader knows that Juliet is lying to her mother, but Lady Capulet actually believes this, and goes along with it. • 10. Summary of Unteaching the Five-paragraph Essay In an excerpt of Unteaching the Five–Paragraph Essay," Marie Foley reveals how the Five–Paragraph Essay formula contradicts writing instructor's most basic goals. Foley shows that the formula deters from generating individual thinking. In today's society, essays are used by millions of people in order to express their different ideas. The Five–Paragraph Essay formula was originally developed to help retain the efficiency and clarity of the essay. Foley, however, believes that this process eventually separates the student from his or her written expression and should be used only as a first step tool for beginning student writers. Foley insists that the formula blocks discovery, squelches authenticity and undermines the reader's need for...show more content... The formula is comfortable and familiar to them. It becomes imprinted. Foley contends that in addition to blocking discovery, the Five–Paragraph Essay formula squelches the student's authenticity. Foley states, "filling the structure with the requisite 500 words, they go through the motions of writing, but they seldom create something authentically theirs," (232). Foley knew that students feel much more at liberty to freely express themselves in their personal journals and in their letters to friends, but take on a different identity for the essay. The students' character, personality, and convictions are locked away until given the opportunity to free write. On a more serious level, coherence is undermined while being one of the writer's and reader's most basic need. "The problem is not that the Five–Paragraph formula produces incoherence but rather that it limits students to a superficial, predictable level or coherence," (232) states Foley. This allows for students to throw any three liberally related ideas together for the body of the essays. Once students fabricate a thesis statement that elucidates for their three ideas, the students feel they have mastered structure. Foley states, "To be asked merely to enumerate three aspects of any topic relieves the student of the need to probe relationships... it robs them of any motivation to do so," (232). • 11. Essay about Behavior Behavior– Behave, it its root form, means to contain or to have. In the reflective sense, it means 'to have bear oneself'. To use the word behave in common conversation, it is understood as to 'behave well'. As for the phrase 'to behave badly', it is understood immediately. Behavior is looked at in society as the way a person presents him or herself in a given situation. It is also related to the specialized sense of manners. Use of the noun to refer to public conduct or, in a moral sense, to a general range of activities is still quite common. But the term is also used in relation to plants, lower organisms and animals to describe the apparent activity of the whole organism. One particular meaning followed from the extension of the...show more content... Different stages of bourgeois society led to different stages of the capitalist mode of economic production. It is often difficult to separate the meaning of bourgeois from the meaning used to describe historically distinct periods and phrases of social and cultural development. The bourgeois ideology of settled independent citizens is clearly not the same as the bourgeois ideology of the highly mobile agents of a para–national corporation. There are also some problems between bourgeois and capitalist, which are often used interchangeably but which are primarily distinguishable as social and economic terms. There can be difficulties of usage, associated with some of the most intense controversies of analysis, when the same word is used for the whole society in which one class is dominate and for a specific class within that whole society. Bureaucracy– Definition– the word Bureaucracy originated in English in the middle of the 1900's. The word bureau had its meaning of a writing desk with drawers. The American use of Bureaucracy has become more common, especially with references to foreign branches. As the word bureaucracy evolved, many different meanings have been taken to affect. The increasing scale of commercial organization, with a corresponding increase in government intervention and legal controls, and with the increasing importance of organized and professional central government, produced the political facts to which the new term pointed.
