MULTIMEDIA SYSTEMS
Application Areas of Multimedia
• With the advent of multimedia authoring
applications like Flash, Shockwave, Photoshop
and Director amongst a host of other equally
enchanting applications, your multimedia end
product is only limited by your imagination.
• If properly constructed, multimedia can be
profoundly entertaining as well as useful.
APPLICATION AREAS OF
MULTIMEDIA
APPLICATION AREAS OF
MULTIMEDIA
• Multimedia today can be used for:
 Entertainment
 Corporate Presentations
 Education
 Trainings
 Simulations
 Digital publications
 Museum exhibits
 Advertisements
 Art
 Video conferencing
 Journalism and so much more.
COMMERCIAL USE
• Much of the electronic (old and new) media used
by commercial artists is multimedia. Exciting
presentations are used to grab and keep attention
in advertising. Business to business, and
interoffice communications are often developed
by creative service firms for advanced
multimedia presentations beyond simple slide
shows to sell ideas or liven-up trainings.
• Presentations, training materials, advertising,
product demos, simulations and networked
communications are all used commercially.
ENTERTAINMENT & FINE ARTS
• Multimedia is heavily used in the entertainment
industry, especially to develop special effects in
movies and animations. Multimedia games are a
popular pastime and are software programs
available either as CDs, DVDs or Online.
ENGINEERING
• Software engineers may use multimedia in
Computer Simulations for anything from
entertainment to training such as military or
industrial training. Multimedia for software
interfaces are often done as a collaboration
between creative professionals and software
engineers.
MULTIMEDIA BUISNESS
• Even basic office applications like a word
processing package or a spreadsheet becomes a
powerful tool with the aid of multimedia. Pictures,
Animation and Sound Effects can be added to
these applications, emphasizing important points
in the documents.
MISCELLANEOUS
• Virtual reality is a truly absorbing multimedia
applications. It is an artificial environment created
with computer hardware and software. It is
presented to the user in such a way that it appears
and feels real.
MULTIMEDIA BENEFITS
• Increased interest of the user
• Reduced learning curve for a new application
• Low cost of production
• Increased accessibility to data
• Empowerment of the user
• Increased retention of information provided
• Error Minimization
MULTIMEDIA USAGE
• Advertising / Catalogs
• Product Showcase / Demonstration
• Education / Training
• Reference and Data Dissemination
• E-Zines
• Communication
• Commerce
• Presentations
• Entertainment and Gaming
MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTION
TEAM
MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTION TEAM
• Producer
• Multimedia Designer
• Subject Matter Expert
• Programmer / Author
• ScriptWriter
• Computer Graphic Artist
• Audio And Video Specialist
• WebMaster
PRODUCER
• A multimedia producer is essentially a team
leader or project manager. This will likely
include working with and managing a team of
people who specialize in certain areas of media
production.
• Multimedia producers play an important role in
each of three phases in the production process:
preproduction, production and postproduction.
• The look and feel of a multimedia project should
always be pleasing and aesthetic as well as
engaging and inviting.
• Screens should present an appealing look of
color, shape and elegance. The project should
contain visual consistency. Navigation should be
clear, icons should be meaningful and straight
forward. The design should be sensitive to the
needs of the general population using the
project.
• Management of all this and more comprises the
responsibilities of the multimedia designer.
MULTIMEDIA DESIGNER
MULTIMEDIA DESIGNER
• Multimedia Designers work in a creative group
that provides the clients with the multimedia
content they need. The main responsibility of a
Multimedia Designer is to design; that is, to
produce sketches, scale models, plans, and
drawings of the multimedia content to be
developed. These plans and sketches will be
checked by the creative director or by the
producers for any inconsistencies or for
production feasibility. Multimedia Designers are
the ones in charge on the overall feel of the
multimedia content. They can design the props,
the set, and decide on the costumes that will best
compliment the design.
SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT
• This term is used to describe professionals with
expertise in the field of application but usually
without technical project knowledge.
COMPUTER GRAPHICS ARTIST
• Graphic design is a collaborative process
between a client and a designer in conjunction
with producers of form to convey a specific
message to a targeted audience.
• The graphic artist develops the Graphic
Elements of the program such as backgrounds,
buttons, photo collages, 3D objects, logos and
animation.
AUDIO SPECIALIST
• The quality of audio elements can make or
break a multimedia project. Audio Specialists

adding and editing video effects and transitions.
Shooting quality video, integrating scenes and
action sequences and efficient delivery on CD,
DVD or on web is also the responsibility of the
video specialist.

• Multimedia writers do everything writers of
Linear Media do. They create characters, action,
point of views and they create interactivity.
• They write proposals, they script voice-overs
and action sequences and narrations. They write
text screens to deliver messages. Writers of text
screens are often referred to as content writers.
MULTIMEDIA PROGRAMMER
• A multimedia programmer or a software
engineer integrates all the multimedia elements
into of a project into a seamless whole using an
authoring system or a programming language.
• Their function ranges from coding simple
displays of multimedia elements to managing
complex timings, transitions and record keeping.
