On May 25th, Argentina celebrates the establishment of the first independent government in Buenos Aires called "la primera junta". This replaced the deposed Viceroy Baltasar Hidalgo de Cisneros. The members of the primera junta included Cornelio Saavedra, Mariano Moreno, Juan José Paso, Manuel Alberti, Miguel de Azcuénaga, Manuel Belgrano, Juan José Castelli, Juan Larrea and Domingo Matheu. The May Revolution of 1810, which occurred between May 18th and 25th, marked Argentina's first step toward independence and the establishment of this new government.
