Crocodiles are more
advanced than other
reptiles in 2 ways:
1. 4 chamber heart
2. Brain has a true
cerebral cortex
– Allows for learning and
not instinctive.
7. Gharials
Gharials have a long slender snout.
This snout is designed to catch fish (like a
dolphin or gar)
Gharials also have weak legs and rarely
move away from the water.

Difference between Crocs and Gators:
Alligators have a broad, rounder snout
than crocodiles and their 4th tooth on either
side is enlarged and hidden when mouth
closed.
Crocodiles snouts taper and the 4th tooth
can be seen when the mouth is closed.

All crocodilians are carnivores
They are mostly ambush predators
Adults will eat anything they can pull
down.
Babies eat insects, amphibians, fish, or
crustaceans

Their muscles for opening their jaw are
