Note: The above information should be completed after the
document is finished, not before, in order to double check your
work results prior to handing in for grading.
Abstract
(After the paper is completed “provide the main generalizable
statement about resulting you uncovered doing the paper.”).
Introduction
(“After a brief explanation of the assignment topic, you state
your point of view on the topic directly and often in one
sentence, as well as because of the role thesis statements
(author’s) play, they appear at the beginning of the paper,
usually at the end of the first paragraph or somewhere in the
introduction.”).
Note: During the writing of the paper, you should remove all
the # signs and begin the paragraph with the author (or name of
author(s), or the main purpose, etc., as well as whatever
familiar sociological terms, concepts, perspectives or theories
learned from other class documents should be included where
appropriate.
1. Author (s) felt it was important to write this article, because
_________? (State the relevant background information used to
justify his work.).
2. The main purpose of this article was ____________? (State
as accurately as possible the author’s purpose for writing the
article.).
3. The key questions Mill’s is addressing are __________?
(Identify the key questions in the mind of the author, as well as
a few of your own when they wrote the article.).
4. The methods used to answer his key questions were
__________? (Describe his general research approach
(quantitative or qualitative) used and include details research
methods and design that assist in evaluating the quality of the
results – sample size, number of ideas etc.).
5. The most important information in the article is
____________? (Identify the facts, his observations, and/or data
the author is using to support their conclusions. Be it
quantitative or qualitative.).
6. The results can be put into context by comparing them to
_________? (Place the results into an easily understood context
such as personal, profession or community/neighborhood by
comparing to an intuitively understood value - e.g., 2x the size
of a football field).
7. The main inferences (suggestion)/conclusions (final point or
statement) in this article by the author(s) are __________?
(Identify the key conclusions the author presents in the article.).
8. If we take this line of reasoning seriously, the implications
are ___________? (What consequences are likely to follow if
people take author(s) reasoning seriously?).
Summary
(“The summary statement needs to convey some very key
information in as brief a manner as possible highlighting your
strongest points.”)
Conclusion
(“Your conclusion is your opportunity to wrap up your essay in
a tidy package and bring it home for your reader. It is a good
idea to recapitulate what you said in your Thesis Statement in
order to suggest to your reader that you have accomplished what
you set out to accomplish.”)
