How to manage Classroom
Discipline
 Classroom management is a term
used by teachers to describe the
process of ensuring that
classroom lessons run smoothly
despite disruptive behavior by
students.
 Discipline problems are the top most problems
for most of the new teachers.
 You can't successfully teach your students if
you are not in control.
 This is also a concern of your principal and
your students' parents.
 Many teachers have lost their jobs due to poor
classroom management.
 Expect that your
students will behave
well, not that they
will disrupt.
 Make sure to have all
your materials,
resources and methods
ready to go. Reducing
downtime will help to
maintain discipline in
your classroom.
 Enforce your rules
consistently. If one
day you ignore
misbehaviors and the
next day you jump
on someone for the
smallest infraction,
your students will
quickly lose respect
for you.
 You need to be
selective in your class
rules . You also need
to make them clear.
Students should
understand what is
and what is not
acceptable.
 Sometimes all it
takes is for
everyone to have a
good laugh to get
things back on track
in a classroom.
 Uncertainty increases
the level of excitement in
the classroom. The
technique of direct
instruction is to begin
each class by telling the
students exactly what
will be happening. The
teacher outlines what he
and the students will be
doing this period. He
may set time limits for
some tasks.
 A classroom can be a
warm cheery place.
Students enjoy an
environment that
changes periodically.
Study centers with
pictures and color
invite enthusiasm for
your subject.
 Use a normal, natural voice
 Speak only when students are quiet and ready
 Use hand signals and other non-verbal
communication
 Address behavior issues quickly and wisely
