1. Introduction
1.1 Purpose
This document describes the process of filling in the Business Impact Analysis (BIA), which is a
requirement of the XXXX Bank to ensure adequate Business Continuity Management.
Business Continuity is the responsibility of all staff; however, the business unit heads in each location are
to be held responsible, with the Country Executive Officer (CEO) to be held accountable. This document
has been written to assist the completion of BIA’s within the locations and business units/ departments.
Performing a BIA is needed to establish exactly what risks the Bank is exposed to. This gives a measurable
quantity rather than a feeling to the risk. The completion of a questionnaire forms the basis of the
information on which analysis takes place. The BIA should be reviewed and updated every year.
All business departments/ units at a senior team level, including service departments and back office
functions should complete this questionnaire. Technology and Property Services have a major role and
should not be excluded from seeing themselves as business units providing service across the Bank.
In addition to the questionnaire, Technology and Property Services also need to review the results from all
business lines to give potential strategies to the CEO.
1.2 Scope
The scope of this document is:
• To describe the completion of the accompanying BIA questionnaire document;
• To describe the review required by the Technology department with respect to the IT systems;
• To describe the review required by the Property Services department for recovery considerations;
• To describe for the presentation of findings and recovery strategy for the unit/ department from the
output of the questionnaire.
The document can be used to update BIA’s or could be used if there is little or no documentation currently
in place; however, it should be pointed out that the questionnaire will have to be revisited every year
thereafter and the results re-analysed.
The resulting data will allow a recovery strategy to be produced in the event of an incident. The BIA
questionnaire will not put in place any solutions, but provides the base documentation for a solution to be
developed.
1.3 Background
This document is required to ensure a consistent approach, and to assist CEO’s in completing this
mandatory exercise. It is acknowledged that further assistance in completing the BIA questionnaire may be
required and this is available from your local BCM contact. Your BCM Team can be reached by sending an
email to: XXX@XXX.com.

2.6.4 Staffing Requirements for Recovery
Using the high level names for your processes detailed earlier, you will need to identify staff numbers that
would be able to support an ‘emergency’ level of service. You may need to increase staff numbers after the
first week, or reduce them as other offices take control of certain functions.
Also complete the total number of staff who will require remote dial in. This is important as more and more
staff are currently laptop users and numbers are required by IT to ensure there are adequate slots on the
appropriate servers to accommodate dial-up users.
2.6.5 Specialised office equipment & vital records at DR site
A recovery position assumes a desk, chair, and phone, desktop and basic printing facilities. If Units/
Departments have additional and specialist equipment requiring recovery at the DR site, this should be
detailed in this section.
A ‘vital record’ is something that may be on your local PC, on paper or elsewhere that will require recovery
at the DR site. As good practice, all units/ departments should electronically document all their business
processes and save these on the network drives. These can then be recovered at the DR site by
technology.
2.7 Other Information
This free format area allows for the detailing of any pertinent information the unit or department feels is
relevant.
