What do we mean by HOTS?

HOTS is an acronym for
 Higher Order Thinking
 Skills. This we developed by
 a group of educators led by
 Benjamin Bloom in 1956.
BLOOM’S TAXONOMY
From LOTS to HOTS


LOTS or Lower Order Thinking
 Skills . It is characterized by
 memorization or categorization
Elements of HOTS
    Synthesizing – combining various elements to form
       a whole
      Analyzing – separating parts and examining its
       interrelations
      Reasoning- a thought offered in support of an
       opinion
      Comprehending-capacity to perceive or understand
      Application- employment of means to accomplish
       an end
      Evaluating-examine and judge carefully
HOTS Environment
  Person-oriented
     Open expression of ideas
     Motivating
     Positive interaction
Aside from employees, who else uses
HOTS?
 Originally, it was designed by
  teachers for students
    HOTS is being used by elementary
     students
 HOTS is also being applied by some
  parents
 HiMAS shall gradually implement
  HOTS in the classrooms
How do we apply it in the workplace?
                Staff shall be expected to think
                 critically
                Superiors shall challenge
                 subordinates to think HOTS
                In the office:
                   Under office decorum
                   Motive must be to help draw out
                    best solution
Example of Office HOTS
           1. What does the HiMAS Vision
              “Wellness for All” mean to
              you?
           2. What is your designation and
              function in the office? Explain.
           3. How do you handle nuisance
              students?
           4. How do you keep the school
              premises clean? Elaboraate.

  • 2. What do we mean by HOTS? HOTS is an acronym for Higher Order Thinking Skills. This we developed by a group of educators led by Benjamin Bloom in 1956.
  • 4. From LOTS to HOTS LOTS or Lower Order Thinking Skills . It is characterized by memorization or categorization
  • 5. Elements of HOTS  Synthesizing – combining various elements to form a whole  Analyzing – separating parts and examining its interrelations  Reasoning- a thought offered in support of an opinion  Comprehending-capacity to perceive or understand  Application- employment of means to accomplish an end  Evaluating-examine and judge carefully
  • 6. HOTS Environment  Person-oriented  Open expression of ideas  Motivating  Positive interaction
  • 7. Aside from employees, who else uses HOTS?  Originally, it was designed by teachers for students  HOTS is being used by elementary students  HOTS is also being applied by some parents  HiMAS shall gradually implement HOTS in the classrooms
  • 8. How do we apply it in the workplace?  Staff shall be expected to think critically  Superiors shall challenge subordinates to think HOTS  In the office:  Under office decorum  Motive must be to help draw out best solution
