2. We talked in class about Easter and how
we celebrate it in different parts of Greece
. Students surfed the net a created a
powerpoint with their photos and some
information to accompany them.
We dyed hard boiled eggs, decorated them
and created our own Easter cards and
candles. Recipes for homemade buns
,tsourekia, easter cookies and the typical
easter food magiritsa are presented by our
5th and 6th Grade students who also
made ,baked and ate tsourekia.
3. The days before the Holy Week the women
bake small cookies , called Lazarakia.
All the Holy Week we fast and we go to
church in the evening. On Holy Thursday we
bake the Easter Bread, tsourekia and dye
the eggs red.
On Holy Friday we decorate the epitaph with
flowers and on Holy Saturday at midnight
we go to church and we carry our candles to
light them and carry home the Eternal Flame
.
On Easter Sunday we eat the lamp.
In some places, like in Arcadia , people make
hot air balloons by canes and paper and let
them fly in the sky on Holy Saturday night.
On the Greek island Chios ,the people make
candles of cloth and light them at night
