2. • Fibrous or flabby alveolar ridges pose significant
problems for the provision of stable & retentive
dental prostheses.
• Fibrous or flabby ridge is a superficial area of mobile
soft tissue affecting the maxillary or mandibular
alveolar ridges.
• Common finding in upper anterior region of long
term denture wearers.

1. loss of bone from the anterior part of the maxillary

4. • Flabby ridges are composed of mucosal hyperplasia &
loosely arranged fibrous connective tissue as well as
more dense collagenised connective tissue.
• In the soft tissue, varying amounts of metaplastic
cartilage and bone have been reported.
