The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has
given approval to the appointment of Vinay Kumar
Tripathi for the post of Chairman and the Chief Executive
Officer (CEO) of Railway Board, New Delhi.
He is presently working as the General Manager, North
Eastern Railway to the post of Chairman of Railway Board.
The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has approved a
six-month extension of Vinay Kumar Tripathi, that is, up to
December 2022.
Vinay Kumar Tripathi has wide experience in railway
management as well as administrations and he is also
equally popular among the railway officers and staff.

4. Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez
retires from international cricket
Former Pakistan skipper and all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has
announced his retirement from international cricket. The 41-year-old had
announced his retirement from Test cricket earlier in 2018.
He will now be retiring from all forms of international cricket, bringing
down curtains on his almost two-decade-old career.
Mohammad Hafeez had made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in 2003
and his last ODI was against Bangladesh in July 2019.
The veteran cricketer had made his T20 debut in September 2006 against
England and his last match was the T20 World Cup semi-final against
Australia, which Pakistan lost.
While he will be retiring from all three forms of international cricket, he will
continue to be available for franchise cricket around the world.
He had signed up with Lahore Qalandars for the upcoming edition of the

5. PM Modi to visit Manipur and Tripura on January 4
Prime Minister Modi will visit the poll-bound Manipur and Tripura
on January 4, 2022, to inaugurate mega development projects in
the Northeast Region.
The Prime Minister will dedicate the projects worth Rs. 4,800
crores to Manipur while Tripura will receive the new integrated
terminal building at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport along with two
key development initiatives.
PM Modi in Manipur will inaugurate 13 projects that will be worth
around Rs. 1,850 crores and will lay the foundation stone of the
projects in the state that are worth around Rs. 2,950 crores.
The projects in the Northeast State will relate to diverse sectors
including drinking water supply, road infrastructure, urban
development, health, information technology, housing, art,
culture, and skill development.

6. Why Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok has resigned?
The Prime Minister of Sudan Abdalla Hamdok resigned on January 2,
2022, more than two months after a coup as well as another deadly
crackdown on the protestors, with the military now firmly in control.
Sudan PM Hamdok has also failed to name a government as the
protests in the country continued against the military takeover in
October 2021.
Abdalla Hamdok also announced that a roundtable discussion was
needed to produce a new agreement for the country’s political
transition.
Sudan went into political turmoil when the military leader General Abdel
Fattah al-Burhan launched his coup on October 25, 2021.
Hamdok's resignation came six weeks after returning to his post in a
deal with the military which stated that his reinstatement could save a
transition of Sudan towards democracy.

34th Indian to lead India in Test matches
KL Rahul has become the 34th Indian to lead India in Test
matches after he took on the skipper's role during India's second test
against South Africa at the Wanderers stadium in Johannesburg on
January 3, 2022. Indian test captain Virat Kohli is not a part of the
playing XI due to an upper back spasm.
KL Rahul has won the toss and elected to bat first in India's second
test. India had won the first test against South Africa by 113 runs,
gaining a 1-0 lead in the three-match test series. India will be looking
for a series win at the Wanderers, where India has not lost a match
until now.
KL Rahul has also become the fourth cricketer from Karnataka to lead
India in Tests after Gundappa Viswanath who led India in 2 Tests in

8. West Bengal Lockdown Restrictions 2022:
Schools, Colleges shut, flights from
Delhi/Mumbai allowed only twice a week
West Bengal re-imposed lockdown-like restrictions on January 2, 2022
after a review of the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic and
concerns due to the high infection rate and multiple cases of new Omicron
covid variant in the state.
All schools, colleges and universities will be shut in the state under the new
restrictions.
West Bengal chief secretary HK Dwivedi announced during a press
conference on January 2, 2022 that the state will operate flights from Delhi
and Mumbai only twice a week, on Monday and Friday with effect from
January 5th.
The state has temporarily banned flights from the UK.
All government offices and private offices will operate at 50 percent
capacity in the state under the new restrictions. The local trains will also
operate with 50 percent capacity till 7 pm.
Metro trains will operate at their usual timing but with 50 percent capacity.
The long-distance trains will operate as per their usual schedule.

9. How to register for COVID Vaccine for 15 to 18 Years old Children
The Covid-19 vaccination for all children aged between 15-18 years
begins today, January 3, 2022.
The registration for 15-18 years old opened on Cowin portal on
January 1st. The children can register for covid vaccination using
their 10th student ID card if they don't have Aadhaar.
The children can book their vaccine slot or visit vaccination centres
straight without booking a slot to get vaccinated.
The centre has permitted walk-ins for children aged between 15-18
years.
Only Covaxin will be used to vaccinate 15 to 18 year olds for now.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced earlier on December
25, 2021 that the centre will begin vaccination for children between
the age group of 15-18 years from January 3, 2022.

of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut, Uttar

The sports university has been set up at Salawa and Kaili
villages of Sardhana town in Meerut at an estimated cost of
Rs 700 Crore.
While laying the foundation stone of the University, Prime

India beat Sri Lanka by 9 wickets to lift the under-19 Asia

the Duckworth Lewis method (DLS) as the match was
