Abstract
This presentation attempts to evaluate the trend of research output of NDRI scientific
publications/ research papers indexed in Web of Science (WoS) online database for the three
years period of 2019 to 2021. Total 822 research papers of NDRI scientists were indexed in web
of science during the study period. In the year 2021, maximum 302 (36.73%) research papers
were evidenced to be published by the by the ICAR – NDRI researchers besides the document
type, technical articles, review articles, proceeding papers, etc. Ashok Mohanty was found to
the most prolific author with maximum 38 papers during the study period . Maximum papers
were published in Agriculture Dairy Animal Science of WoS category. The present presentation
will be useful for the subject matter specialists, researchers, students, librarians as well as for the
policy makers to look into the trend in making effective policies basis on these results.

Introduction
ICAR- National Dairy Research Institute was founded in Bangalore in 1923 as a center for dairy
education. In 1936 it was renamed as Imperial Dairy Institute and it was shifted to its present site
in Karnal in 1955 and renamed again as National Dairy Research Institute. In 1970, NDRI was
brought under the aegis of Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The Institute has the
distinction of being a Deemed University for implementing its academic programmes since
1989.
NDRI operates through 13 research divisions / sections viz. Animal Genetics and Breeding,
Animal Biotechnology, Animal Physiology, Animal Nutrition, Animal Bio-chemistry, Livestock
Production and Management, Forage Research, Dairy Microbiology, Dairy Chemistry, Dairy
Technology, Dairy Engineering, Dairy Economics, Statistics and Management and Dairy
Extension. This Institute has the unique distinction of having been ranked first, among all
Agricultural Universities of India including 4 Deemed Universities, consecutively for five
times in the years 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21.
2. The Institute has also a National Library in Dairying, which possesses an impressive collection
of literature on dairying and allied subjects. NDRI library is a member of CeRA from the very
beginning. In present scenario, the face of libraries mostly has been changed with the advent of
information technology. The storage and dissemination process of reading materials in libraries
have been transformed from traditional to digital or in other words manual to automation. To
gain the full benefits of digital technologies in libraries functioning, different advanced steps
have been taken at ICAR - NDRI. Among these, resource sharing is one of the most important
step. Library consortium is an association of libraries established by formal agreement based on
the concept for resource sharing among its members. CeRA is consortium for sharing of
scholarly publications among the agricultural scientific community to ameliorate the quality of
research in the areas of agriculture and allied sciences subjects. Presently, there are 152
consortium members including ICAR Institutes, Central Agricultural Universities (CAUs) and
the State Agricultural Universities (SAUs).
Objectives:
The objectives of this study aimed to evaluate the trend of NDRI scientists’ research output on
the basis of research articles indexed in Web of Science for the year 2019-2021. are following:
1. To find out the year wise publications.
2. To find out the document types preferred by the scientists.
3. To find out the most prolific author.
4. To find out the WoS category in which maximum publication were published.
5. To find out the research collaborative research institutions.
6. To find out the preferred journals for publications by the scientists.
7. To find out the preferred publishers for publications by the scientists.
Methodology of study:
The data was retrieved from Web of Science (WoS) online database, Science Citation Index
Expanded core collection on dated 13-09-2022. Selected the affiliation as ICAR-National Dairy
Research Institute and customized the time span as 01-01-2019 to 31-12-2021. The total 822
records were retrieved. The research out puts were estimated from the analysis part of WoS. The
data was tabulated for further analysis.
Analysis and Discussion:
1. Annual output of research papers:
Out of the 822 indexed research papers in WoS, 273, 247 and 302 research papers were
published in three consecutive years. Maximum research papers were published in the year

2. Document type of research papers:
Out of the 822 indexed research papers in WoS, the trend showed total 752 articles, 61 review
articles, 3 editorial material, 3 meeting abstract, 2 proceeding paper and 1 letter were published
by the NDRI researchers during the study period. Most preferred documents were research
articles (752) in research journals followed by review articles (61).
