2. Eight Keys of Excellence
Problems are Challenges
Failure Leads to Success
Human Dignity
Ownership
This is It
Integrity
Continuous Improvement
Quality
3. Problems are Challenges
Weights are the tools we use to
build strong muscles. Problems are
the weights we use to build strong
characters. We must be taught to
shift our paradigm about problems.
4. Failure Leads to Success
Many of the most successful people in
our history were great failures. We
must see failure for learning. Failure is
for feedback. We must be taught to
pause and seek the learning in every
failure. This key must be nurtured in
an environment where people feel safe
about failure.
5. Human Dignity
Respecting the rights of others and
treating everyone with value is basic to
real success. Living in alignment with this
key means we value others regardless of
their station in life, their abilities, their
skills, their differences, or the color of
their skin.
6. Ownership
This is the key of responsibility: I am
responsible for me, no more excuses.
When we are in alignment with this
important key, we can admit when we
make a mistake. We believe in being
responsible for our own future, and find it
easier to maintain a goal orientation.
7. This is IT
This key means we live in the present
moment and are fully present. Many
employees walk into work and think “this
is NOT it”. This kind of thinking is a
choice. Employees should recognize that
they can make any situation “IT”. It takes
practice, but pays valuable dividends in
performance and attitude.
8. Integrity
It is impossible to live above the line
unless we live in alignment with this
key. Integrity goes beyond honesty,
and requires sincerity and
congruence in our communication
and daily activity.
9. Continuous Improvement
This is the key that helps us
improve for the right reason. It is
the foundation for life-long learning,
and embraces the attitude of being
the best.
10. Quality
The key of quality is the great confidence
builder. It improves our reputation with
ourselves. It should become our rule for
all performance no matter how great or
small. It is a necessary ingredient for
taking pride in ourselves and our
performance.
11. Six Conditions of Quality
A warm supportive environment
People ONLY do useful work
People are ALWAYS asked to do their best
People evaluate their own work and improve it
Quality work is intrinsically rewarded
Quality work is never destructive
