  1. Research context primarily defines the problems/issues: Scarcity of information, due to incidents, for instance, missing Information on historical sites, unfortunately are not made available to general population/public. Limited accessibility of information since some materials are of restricted and controlled items. Information required for different audiences, for instance, UNESCO World Heritage, scholars, educators, tourism etc.
  2. To develop and test a visual interface to present historical sites and their associate information.
  3. Each AR from HS project is required to undertake two imperative tasks as arranged by Supervisors. Task 1 involves each AR to gather sets of information and materials on each one historical site, for instance, feature type of building, location via latitude and longitude, dates it was built, demolished, history description and historical function. Task2 requires ARs to generate GIS database design using each one’s imagination and creativity, to pinpoint the precise location of each historical site on Google Earth application as KML file.
  4. Site selection – is generally based on personal interest and knowledge on a historical site. Data collection involves gathering as many materials as each AR possibly can by documentation search via primary and secondary sources, oral tradition by formal, face-to-face interviews and GPS. Places covered by ARS by far include Brunei History Centre, Brunei Museum, Museum Library, BSB Municipal Board public information centre etc. Then all information needs to be included to feed in necessary ones into Google Earth by translating it into KML file.

  6. This slide looks at how system architecture runs and the expected outcome.

Achievements (reflecting on what we have achieve): In general each ARs from this project is able to pinpoint and mark the location of each historical site, however, issue such as insufficient set of dependable sources complicates the entire project. This is mainly due to time constrain, conflicting yet inconsistent findings as it comes with different version and differing opinions from one individual to another, some materials are highly confidential and protected by government therefore unable to access some information. 2) Targeted audience: so far, we haven’t define our target audience (target audience, hereby, refers to who we are looking for to use this project). In other context, we haven’t reach to the public, scholars, university students, historians, tourists. This is because permission is required to release the photographs/images from National Archive. As for now, it has not yet granted. So at this stage, we are only allowed to share this information among ourselves, but we are hoping in the near future, we are able to reach out to the everyone, not only to a specific group of individual. (b) can we make the outcome of this project suitable for everyone? We believe there is a possibility on making it appropriate for everyone, however, it is a matter of how we are to deliver the information, for instance, whether the information is refuting or likely to receive further criticisms from historians, senior citizens, scholars etc.
  9. 3) Yes, we believe it requires further research because *refer to point 1 – achievements point* (due to a number of issues including insufficient set of dependable sources complicates the entire project. This is mainly due to time constrain, conflicting yet inconsistent findings as it comes with different version and differing opinions from one individual to another, some materials are highly confidential and protected by government therefore unable to access some information.
  10. What should the next (future) group do? We as the 1 st group directs where the research should go, 2 nd group can do further research, to provide build-up models and set up trails.
