LAURA!
The Uni has a new TEL strategy.
One of the goals is….
This is ambitious goal, in order to support it we needed something tangible to work with.
Started as a minimum set of requirements, this developed into a baseline rubric with levels
We reviewed current threshold standards – they were not fit for purpose, unrealistic, not many programmes adhered to them due to the differing nature of programmes. This was done at a modular level.
Foundation designed to be achievable and build a solid base for digital practice to be built on.
This was about student experience, what’s the bare minimum students could expect receive at Derby
A supportive process
Self-assessment
Focusing on digital practice
Programme approach
Some elements need to be seen in the programme and some throughout – (This use of language was a challenge)
Not an exhaustive list of practices
Consistency and digital narrative running through the programme.
Student experience is at the heart
How we have underpinned the baseline.
These were the themes, from our experience and the research, NSS etc.
This is how it looked!
Programme leaders have to complete the enhancement, using our form.
Eventually this is expected to be come part of the universities quality process.
The activity 15mins – Develop your own baseline.
Each group has one of the 6 themes.
Fill in your blank version at Foundation, Silver and Gold.

Discussion 5- 10mins
What have you got in your baseline?
How did you find the activity?
The usual.
Language – Do people know what we are on about? Translating from top down, not bottom up.
Understanding what level of digital capabilities staff have.
Logistics – Not all modules are owned by programme and PLs don’t have line management responsibility. Large programmes, partnerships.
Time – ours and academics – still doing business as usual
Scale – is it too big?
Response – are people engaged?
Working at a programme level
Raising awareness of digital practices that benefit student experience
Academics reflect on their practice – they are already doing a lot of this – just not explicitly.
Digital Capabilities – staff and students reflecting on their own skills and those of their students.
Meeting new people
Having a strategic approach aims to provides consistency across the institution.
Useful for us to reflect on how we work with staff, the language we use etc.
