Mon. - Students will read my blog that briefly describes cover letters and resumes, and
they will comment on the blog saying how they found it useful. Students are then going
to go online and find the advertisement for the job, scholarship, college, etc. that they are
applying for and take a screenshot of the advertisement and post it on the class's
Facebook page. If a student cannot find physical evidence for the reason of their cover
letter / resume, any photo that somewhat describes the reason will do! I am going to ask
the students to get onto Zello anytime between 8-9 PM and I will tell them if I am
missing anybody's blog comment, or Facebook upload. This is an easy way to
communicate to the students that I haven't received their work on the day of.
Tues. - By looking at the poster I created for the class, students will recall simple dos and
don'ts when making a rough draft resume during class. By referencing the poster I photo
shopped during CI350, I will have students create a rough draft cover letter and I'll ask
them to include these words as much as they can. Before students make a rough cover
letter, I will show them this video so they can put these tips to use! Each student will then
post to their wiki page a snapshot of their rough cover letter and resume so I will be able
to make edits and comments accordingly.
Wed. - Students will gain more information on resume organization via these YouTube
videos. Students are then going to edit their rough draft of their documents by using the
corrections I made on their wiki page, and implement techniques they learned in these 2
videos. After school on Wednesday, I will either tweet at students, or direct message
them, (whichever they prefer) and tell them that I have received their revised resumes /
cover letters. Students who don't receive a tweet or direct message will know that they
still need to turn in their edited version.
Thurs. - Students are then going to take any final suggestions I have on their cover letter
and resumes and complete their final drafts during class. For the remaining class time, I
am going to introduce students to arts and bots. They will be in 3 groups and each group
is going to create a bot that represents a different job / scholarship / college that the
students are applying for. For example, one group might make a bison robot to represent
a scholarship at Marshall that requires a cover letter and / or resume. Arts and crafts will
be provided.
Fri. - Student will get class time to complete their bot and then they will present them.
This is a fun way to end the week they've had! I will create a podcast at the end of the day
to go over what all we did that week. This will allow students who missed a day to know
what to do in order to get caught back up. Also in the podcast, I will say students name
whose final cover letters / resumes I haven't received yet.
