Divorce among Americans is rampant. In society today divorces are as common as marriages

Something is just not right with the relationship anymore, so they opt for the easy way out, the big

My mother could never let anything rest she loved to argue. It didn't matter if it was money,
family, jealousy, or the color of the clouds in the sky that particular day; she just loved to bitch.
Then one day my dad had enough and he left. Let me go back up and say that my dad was not
perfect by any means. He was a hard worker and a good provider and he loved my mother and us.
But he also allowed my mother to always be in control of the household, the finances and the
discipline. My mother resented him for this and when things went wrong she wanted to blame
him for his lack of input. Anyway, the day my dad moved out was a day of mixed emotions, I felt
like the largest weight in the world had been lifted off of my shoulders and at the same time the
sadness that I felt was just weighing me back down. I was so glad my dad was finally going to take
a stand and stop the arguing but I was so sad that he was going to have to leave to do it.
I blame my dad for taking the easy way out and I blame my mom for allowing it. I blame society
as a whole for commercializing divorce on a level that allows parents to choose it as if it were the
only option. Because of these things this is how I have spent the last twenty years of my life,
seeking the easiest way out of tough situation and blaming myself for things that were beyond my
control.
People who are not from broken homes or do not have first hand experience with divorce have no

Divorce and Its Effect On Children Essay
I. Introdution
Divorce is a heavy concept that has many implications for those involved. The situation becomes
even more consequential when children are considered. As divorce has become more commonplace
in society, millions of children are affected by the separation of the nuclear family. How
far–reaching are these effects? And is there a time whendivorce is beneficial to the lives of the
children? This paper will examine some of the major research and several different perspectives
regarding the outcomes of divorce for the children involved, and whether it can actually be in the
best interest of the kids.
II. Review of Evidence

It found that 60% of children of divorce ended up getting married versus 80% of the comparison
group, and the majority chose not to have children of their own (Wallerstein & Lewis, 2004).
In the contrary, another longitudinal study took place across two decades with a cohort of
preschoolers (4 years old) whose parents had been separated between 12–18 months. They were
assessed again two years later (age 6) and then follow–ups occurred at 10, 16 and 24 years of age.
The sample was expanded at each assessment and ended up including divorced, non–divorced and
remarried individuals among 450 families. The most significant finding of the study was that 75%
of the children were able to positively adjust between 2 – 6 years post divorce, while 25% still
struggled with psychosocial problems for decades (Zimiles, 2004). Another significant two–part
longitudinal study took place over a 17 year period and examined a sample of 85 children of
divorced families. Parents were initially interviewed in 1980 regarding marriage quality. Interviews
later determined which marriages dissolved and the conflict levels of those that had not. In 1992

activities to raise school results were always lower before and after divorce. Wealthy parents who
divorce become less stressful because they don't have to worry about money. The breakup
