MSBI Interview Questions and Answers.
1. Top 5 MSBI Interview
Questions & Answers - 2021
Here you will slide through some must know MSBI interview
questions along with answers (for beginners)
2. Q1. What is ELT Process?
ETL stands for Extraction, Transformation & Loading.
It is a three steps process and an important feature consolidating the data from single source or multiple
sources and then transforming and loading the data to the Data Warehouse.
ETL Process helps Data Scientist to assess and analyse data and turning this data into a valuable
intelligent information.
3. Q2. - Difference between Control Flow and Data Flow in SSIS?
A SSIS package consist of one Control Flow and optionally one or more Data Flow.
Control Flow VS Data Flow
Control Flow Data Flow
Control flow is more process oriented which
handles the workflow of execution like execution
of task components and container components.
Data flow is more data oriented which handles the
flow of Execution. It defines the flow of data from
source to destination.
Control flow does all non ETL activities which
includes email messages, executing SQL statement,
copying a file from one place to another or copying
a file from FTP server.
Data flow does all ETL activities which includes CSV
file extraction, SQL DB extraction, XL file
extraction, massaging of a data, transforming of a
data and finally loading back the data into the data
warehouse.
4. Q3. - Explain the architecture of SSIS?
SSIS architecture is having four key parts i.e. Integration Services Runtime, Integration Services Object
Model, Integration Services Service and Integration Services Data Flow Task.
1. Integration Service Runtime is useful to create the connection, to run the task components, to run the
containers, to connect between the two tasks and so on. This executable task is connected via the
precedence constraints. This is the role of Integration Services Runtime.
2. Integration Services Object Model in SSIS is used for creating and managing the SSIS packages
programmatically. Using this object model you can create your own custom components to satisfy your
own ETL needs.
3. Integration Services Service is an instance of SQL Server Database engine available in SQL Server
Management Studio(SSMS). Here you can deploy packages and by deploying your packages you can run
independently those packages without the support of visual studio.
4. Integration Services Data Flow Task means Data Flow Engine, the main role of Data Flow Engine is to
move the data from source to destination by using the SSIS components which are available in SSIS
toolbox.
5. Question 4 - Explain the types of Perfmon counters for SSIS?
Performance counters of SSIS Pipelines are grouped into six groups – BLOB, Buffer, Flat Buffers, Private
Buffers and Row Performance Counter. These counters monitor and reveal in which way the memory
resources are required during the execution of SSIS package. The types of performance counters are
BLOB bytes read, BLOB bytes written, BLOB files in use, Buffer memory, Buffers in use, Buffers spooled,
Flat buffer memory, flat buffers in use, Private buffer memory, Private buffers in use, Rows read, Rows
written.
Flat buffers in use, this counter sets when the no. of flat buffers that the data flow engine uses. These flat
buffers are private buffers.
Private Buffer Memory sets when the total amount of memory is used by all private buffers. These private
buffers are buffers that a transformation component uses for temporary work only.
Private Buffers in use, this counter sets when the no. of buffers that transformation uses. Whenever you
see a transformation component uses a buffer then this counter sets.
SSIS package instances come under the SSIS service 14.0. This counter shows up when the current no. of
simultaneous SSIS packages running together.
Same way you can explain other types of Performance Counters in one and two liners.
6. Q5. - Explain the types of Cache Mode in SSIS Lookup component?
Lookup Cache is one of the important properties in SSIS. The lookup cache selection determines how
lookup values are cached during the package execution. Lookup Cache has three cache modes – Full Cache
Mode, Partial Cache Mode and No Cache Mode.
Full cache is the default setting component, full cache it caches the entire data set into its memory before
the package starts execution it caches everything. It is recommended you should use this mode if the data
set is smaller than the source data.
And if the data set is larger than the source data then it is better to use the No Cache Mode.
Partial Cache Mode is the hybrid mode of other two that is a full cache mode and the no cache mode.
7. The answers to the given questions are elaborated in a way that a BI
candidate should answer in an interview and what all important point
he/she should put in front of the interviewer……….
