Notes de l'éditeur

  1. Good morning of Prof. And everyone. Today, on behalf of my team, i’m here to report with you about the ancient civilizaiton. But NO, it’s more than that, it would be a comparison about ancient civilizaiton and the modern one as well as own own perspective of civilization’s role in mankind’s history.
  2. Throughout human timeline, a number of civilizations have raised and collapsed. These civilization, namely, Mesopotamin, Egypt, Indus, Aegean, China, etc. though located in isolated places, with different pattern of lifestyle, culture, languages, but they have some important common points such as: most of them pursuit the monarchy government, locating near big river, and most importantly they based mainly on agriculture for their living with primitive tools and methodologies for farming. Therefore, in this presentation, all of the civilizations before the early 19th century will be referred as “ancient civilization”.
  3. Meanwhile, we have another “so-called” civilization, which is a not-so-popular concept: the modern/global civilization. This civilization would last from the early 19th century until now. The reason for choosing this benchmark would be explained right now, when we move on to the 1st part: comparsion bwt ancient and modern civilization.
  4. At this moment, it is hard to imagine a day without electricity, mobile phone, internet. But that’s how the elder people lived, or even worse. The energy, or power, they employ from work came mostly from their own or the castle’s muscle. As in this time, agriculture is the main way to earn for a living, most invention and technology focus in this field while another small number is to serve for the purpose of rituals. Surprisingly, there were indeed a few astonishing inventions that so far play an important role in the society development and some remains misteries to modern people.
  5. Then the industrial revolution exploded throughout the world. A huge change in technology had a profound effect on many aspects of the society – economy – and policy. Although the revolution happened in a short span of time, its contribution to the development of human is very remarkable, including: + The replacement of machine + The use of steam, and later of other kinds of powers + The adoption of the factory system.
  6. Since then, technology nowadays is developing at a lightening rate. The latest gadget today is tomorrow’s antique.
  7. Many industries: Agriculture, fishery, forestry, service, manufacturing, technology, finance, health-care, tourism
  8. Manual and simple tools. Using castle like ox, buffalo, horse to support. The res Modern people have moved on to mechanized their work, which replace the manpower and hence enable us to proceed massive production and gain high productivity.
  9. It wouldn’t be enough if we don’t mention trading when discuss about economy. As i’ve said before, trading is very limited in the ancient time due to the barriers of transportation and technology. For this reasons, our ancestor just can trade within a small region, and the most famost trading path of this time is «Silk road» as you can see here just cover some area in Asia now. In contrast, nowsaday, we are seeing a strong trends of global trade, together with the existence of many international trading organizations such as WTO, ITO, etc. So in one way or another, trading and communication has become easier then ever.
  10. With the gradual rise of complex civilizations , knowledge became too complicated to transmit directly from person to person, generation to generation. Therefore, the human race came to the invention of writing by about 3100, which also marked the first appearance of school. However,, a vast majority of children still continued to learn exclusively by an informal apprenticeships to become craftmen or farmers. Only a small number, especially boys from noble class or wealthy family could receive formal schooling, which lead to the very high percentage of illiteracy in the population. during this time, the curriculum of the education in most civilization focused mainly on the religion, physical training, as well as attitude and manners.
  11. In modern day, as the awareness of education has improved a lot, people pay much attention to this aspects, proved by the fact that basic education is compulsory in most countries, which decreased significantly Illiteracy. Also, there are more equality as most people, regardless of age, gender, social classes, can attend school without difficulties. Moreover, with the development of technology, education is now supported by hi-end facilities and equipment. Then, to serve for the convenience of students, there are many types of education, we have normal school, vocational school, exchange programs, international studying programs, of courses we have many type of degree and diploma for different levels of learning. Last but not least, for basic learning, students nowsaday have to learn a lot of subjects ranging in different fields.
  12. However, civilization also have its dark side. Battles, no matter how hard we try to avoid, is still one of the elements of mankind history. In ancient civilizations, most wars took place between small territories. In contrast, modern wars happened in large areas and involved many countries. It would not be exagerrating today if a war occurs, it could have a global effects. Regarding to the war means. There is a wide range of ancient weapons from around the globe. Ancient weapons are often advancements on the primitive ones created for hunting and warfare. Many of them can still be found in battlefield up to this very day. Meanwhile: modern military is equiped with even-deadlier weapons that could destroy a large area in the blink of an eye. Due to constraints in technology and transportation, most ancient battles were ground/land warfare. Naval warfare, if possible, was mainly to support the land. Nowadays, according to Wikipedia, there are about 13 types of warfare, many of which have never existed before like chemical war, information war, or nuclear war.
  13. For further demonstration, let’s take a closer look at these pictures. Here are the past and the present soldiers. While ancient soldier use quite primitive weapons such as spear, bow, sword, etc. Modern one are quiped with with gun and easier uniform to travel in the battle field..
