Why Is Study Skills Important
Study skills are used in everyday life. They are the skills you will need to study and learn with.
Using skills to study is best for your own personal needs and will help you out a lot throughout
life. Study skills are not just used for students. When people develop study skills they find what
skills are best for them. It usually comes naturally as you go through school and do homework.
From experience, you find what study skills are best for your learning and what skills are not. You
also need to practice the skill that works best for you. It is also good to try other study skills
because something else might work out better for you. I used to love working in groups but now I
would prefer to work alone most of the time. That is because it usually seems like one person is
doing most of the work while the other person isn't. This is why study skills are important. One
important study skill to use is self–explanation. to practice this study skill you are going to need to
do three major things. Get organized to study, finding time to study, and note taking. This study skill
bases all for you. Self–explanation can be used in any class and it is simple. Say if you are ready,
your textbook or just a random...show more content...
Over the past years and basically since the day you have started learning is when you realize that
you need to learn about study skills. Not all things might work for you. Once you find that thing
that does work for you, you will be a great learner and grow to be very smart. Using study skills is a
very good habit that everyone needs to get into no matter how old you are. When I was younger it
was my favorite thing to work with groups. As I got older I got more independent and I started to
not like them as much. They can be fun but I realized it wasn't always best for me to be working
in groups all the time. Try new study skills it will help you out in life a

Essay about Study Guide
COMPANY BACKGROUND: EasyFind manufactures and sells golf balls. The company is
conducting a price test to find a better price point. Presently their golf balls sell for $19 per dozen.
Their current volume is 5,470 dozen per month. They are considering reducing their sales price by
20% per dozen.
QUESTION 1: What are EasyFind's total current revenues per month?
$19 * 5,470 = $103,930 [+/– $3,118]
Total Revenues = Price * Volume
QUESTION 2: If EasyFind's variable costs are $10 per dozen, what is their total contribution each
month at current prices?
($19 – 10) * 5,470 = $49,230 [+/– $1,477]
Total contribution = Unit Contribution * units sold
QUESTION 3: What will be EasyFind's new price if they choose to implement the price...show more

How many copies per issue (units) was Kai selling?
($372 + 500) / ($2.21 – $0.83) = 632 [+/– 19]
Volume (units) = (Fixed Cost + Profit) / (Selling Price – Variable Cost).
QUESTION 2: What total contribution is required to cover the new fixed costs and earn $500 profit
per issue?
$372 + $135 + 500 = $1,007 [+/– $30]
Total contribution needed to cover the old fixed costs + new fixed cost + profit is just the three
factors added together.
QUESTION 3: What price increase would be required to cover the increase in cost of hiring the
press if unit volume (copies per issue) remain the same?
$135 / 632 = $0.21 [+/– $0.01]
The price increase must be enough to cover the additional fixed cost, so we just need to know
what that fixed cost is per copy sold. This equals the additional fixed costs / number of copies sold.
QUESTION 4: Kai decides to add color and keep his price the same. This will increase variable costs
by $0.40 per issue. What will be the new unit volume (copies per issue) required to maintain $500
profits and cover the increased fixed and variable costs?
($372 + $135 + 500) / ($2.21 – ($0.83 + .40)) = 1,028 [+/– 31]
Divide the new total fixed costs plus profit by the new contribution margin.
QUESTION 5: Kai decides to keep his price the same and add color, increasing variable costs by
$0.40 per issue. What is the percent increase in unit volume (copies per issue) required to maintain
$500 profits and cover the increased fixed and variable

Best Ways To Study Essay
Three Best Ways to Study For many students studying for an exam or a test can be very stressful.
For a lot of them studying is very hard because sometimes most of the materials they study, they
don't remember on the actual test or exam. However there are more than one way to study and
most theses studying methods can be very helpful and very reliable. A Lot of students tend to cram
all the studying two or the night before the test and according to UCLA professor of psychiatry
Andrew J. Fuligni (2012) cramming and trying to get as much information in your head two or a
night before the test is very counterproductive. How to study properly Although there are many ways
and methods of studying whether it be scientific or a family belief ,...show more content...
A second method of studying is by studying in an appropriate setting (Chadron State College).
Studying in an environment where distraction is very easy to find is very difficult. Studying in a
quiet setting with a lot of space away from distraction can help you study and can help memory
performance. With this setting it's also helpful to be consistent with the studying, studying at the
same time and same place is very effective especially when this is done 2 –3 weeks prior to the test
quiz or exam. With the proper setting, proper setting is also necessary. " Your study desk or table
should be equipped with all the materials you might need to complete the assignment, e.g., pencils,
pens, erasers, paper clips, stapler, dictionary, snacks, and liquid refreshments, etc." – Chadron State
College. Adding items that can help you study and removing things that might distract is also need
for effective studying. The third and final method of studying that is effective is studying while
listening to music. According to Goodwin (2015), studying with music before a test can improve
attention and can help lessen depression and anxiety. The "Mozart effect" is known to be helpful
but of course today the effects will be very different since students don't tend to listen to Mozart.
The type of music played also plays a pig role of studying. Studying with music that has lyrics is not

Study Strategies
Introduction
Walter Landon once said, " Study is the bane of childhood, the oil of youth, the indulgence of
adulthood, and a restorative in old age."
Over the course of being in school, I have tried many different types of studying strategies. The
strategies that have worked the best are post–test, memorization, and effective note–taking during
presentations. These three study strategies have helped me pass a variety of tests and quizzes.
Thesis: Study strategies help students in being organized, and succeed in their coursework.
Body
.One strategy that has worked well are strategies that revolve around after taking a test.
Having feedback from a professor is very helpful. It provides critical insight to ones work, and from
someone who understands the subject better. It gives the student a chance to process the feedback
and their writing, or how to prepare something and improve scores. For myself, it helps me to write

If a person does not want to carry their textbook or laptop around to study, flashcards are a good
alternative as a study aid. It will allow you to study anywhere you are, and can pass the time rather
quickly while you are waiting. For myself, I have used flashcards as long as I can remember. They
are the study tools that I work with the best, because it singles out the information from the main text
in the textbook. It allows me to learn that term or info faster than reading from the book.
Rhymes and songs are another great memorization aid. Many people are able to recall lyrics to a
song or a rhyme. By turning the information you have to memorize into a song can increase the
chance of the material to stay with you. In my experiences in school, songs helped me the most in all
the science classes I have taken. Memorizing certain elements or biomes were tough, and hearing it
in a song helped my brain to recall the information on a test or a

Studying Abroad
The phrase study abroad means a persons intent to gain knowledge outside of the confines of their
country. Studying abroad is an effective way to fulfill requirements for your college degree and
travel the world while experiencing new cultures at the same time There are many various aspects of
studying abroad. You must be prepared: It is fun and exciting, but you must be cautious of the
dangers.
Many students choose to study abroad because of the potential benefits. Some students want to learn
a second language and believe that it would be worth while and more interesting for them to learn it

of the United States embassy in that country (Studying Abroad, 2001).
When traveling, outside of the United States, you will need a passport. You might also need
visas depending on the country you are visiting. You may also want to think about investing in
insurance for the goods you are bringing with you. This will help you if something is lost, stolen
or ruined. (General Information, 2004). You will need to bring enough money to cover the
expenses you plan to occur, and extra in case of an emergency. It is a good idea to get travelers
checks instead of risking losing your money or having it stolen. You will possibly have to exchange
these for the type of denomination used in the country you are visiting. It is imperative that you get
the vaccinations recommended for the country you are visiting, to avoid sickness and possible death.
What can I learn from studying abroad?
Students who have studied abroad have reported learning and developing many things. Of which
included bilingual skills, gaining knowledge of the country they visited, its people, culture, and
heritage. They also said they gained knowledge of the countries society, economy, politics and its
role in the world (Dolby, 2004). They also reported acquiring skills like

International Students Essay example
Differences between American Students and International Students Most young people believe that
studying in a different country is a privilege because they are able to experience other cultures, and
learn from them. However, in the United States it is not as good as they thought because
International students have much more pressure being in this country, and sometimes they cannot
handle it very well. Therefore, in the United States the life of an international student is very
unfavorable if people compare it to the life of an American student. International students have to
learn a new language to study, they cannot work while studying, and their tuition is much more
expensive. When people moves to the United Stated to study they...show more content...
They know their structure and have a very superior vocabulary, so they can compose excellent
essays. In addition, since American students speak English very well, they do not have any
problem participating in class. They have confidence in themselves, so they will not be afraid of
saying something wrong. Consequently, because American students do not have to learn any
language to study their mayor, it is much easier for them to achieve excellent grades. Most
university students feel the necessity of working since they would like to have their own money
in order to be independent from their parents. It is not the exception for International students
because they also feel the necessity of working to be independent from their parents or whoever is
responsible for them. However, for international students to work in the United States it is very
difficult because they are only allowed to work on campus. These kinds of jobs are very limited
since some of the campuses in which they study are very small. Also for an international student to
find a job on campus is difficult because people prefer to employee an American student who is
not going to have any problem speaking the language. For example, last semester a friend from
Venezuela who is studying at Miami Dade College decided that he wanted to get a job in order to
have his own money. He went to

Study Skills Assessment
I received a score of 33 out of 50 on my study skills assessment. I have a lot of room for
improvement and I am not fully using my study strategies to the most potential. Currently my
study habits include completing all homework assigned, studying for tests only a day or two
before the assessment, and I make sure to mark any information I do not fully understand so that
I can ask about it later. I take a full schedule of difficult coursework that occupies a lot of my time,
stretching me thin. I find it troublesome to sit down and effectively study without becoming
fidgety or frustrated. It would be beneficial to me to discover the best times and places that would
give me the most out of my studying time. Another improvement would be to do weekly reviews
on coursework to keep the information fresh in my mind. To keep me motivated and on track a
schedule would be useful to aid in block out times to study one subject at a time. I definitely using

Developing Strong Academic Study Skills
Developing strong academic study skills in Higher Education is arguably the most important area of
learning and development a student can cultivate, in order to achieve academic success. The skills
that are acquired, the learning techniques that a student refines and life learning experiences are all
going to develop into long–term career prospects and future career enhancement. Some of the key
areas for development and discussion in this essay will include note taking/essay writing, critical
thinking and analysing questions and reflective thinking skills. A major area for development and
improvement revolves around effective note taking and essay planning/writing. As a Higher
Education student you will be required to plan and produce countless essays in relation to the
course you are studying, and a key point of reference to help with this would come from "The
Guide to Learning and Study Skills for Higher Education and at Work" who give the following
advice and tips: 'Identify the purpose of the essay and who the audience (reader) is and what is
required for both – structure your work and develop your arguments/main points – proof read your
work and improve language, spelling, punctuation, grammar and style – review what you did and use
feedback to improve your essay writing for the future' (Bingham, R. and Drew, S. 2012 The guide to
learning and study skills: For higher Education and at work). With regards to effective note taking in

I discovered a love for art history my freshman year in an honors course with Dr. Esther Sparks.
She was so passionate about art history and her students. Dr. Sparks painted such a vivid picture
of the history behind the art, its importance and significance. When considering study abroad
locations, because of the class I took on a whim and Dr. Sparks whom I adored, I knew I wanted
to travel somewhere with rich history, culture, art, and architecture. On every street corner of
Florence, Italy, stands some piece of history; therefore, I have chosen this location for my study
abroad experience. I am completely awestruck by not only the beauty of these masterpieces, but by
the stories they hold. I find myself daydreaming of the people who created these magnificent
structures, who they were, and what they thought of themselves and their creations. My goal is to
immerse myself in the culture and absorb as much knowledge and understanding of Italian history
and traditions as I possibly can so that I may, in turn, become a more well rounded individual.
Through this study abroad program, I will be able to earn six credit hours. I am a Communication

Why I Want to Study Medicine
The sun exploded into a million shades of orange. I sat, friends at each side, atop a monstrous pile of
boulders. I looked over the vastness of Joshua Tree National Park, and saw a glimpse of myself.
Love filled my soul; love of people, love of family. The backcountry has always helped me find this
love; it has been my personal northstar, shepherding me toward research and medicine. I started
backpacking at 13, trekking across the winter–harsh lands of Idaho and Montana. It was difficult, but
despite this, a feeling welled within me that pushed me forward. This feeling warmed my numb
fingers and soothed the ache in my thighs. It drew me close to my friends, fostering the teamwork
required. Each new trip allowed me moments of introspection. The teamwork led to trust, trust led
to caring, caring led to empathy; eventually I understood the satisfaction of helping others. This is
how the backcountry shaped me. Over the next year many choices I made would be based on these
lessons. When I was in high school, I had no inkling of where I was going, but I tested the waters. I
volunteered at the Mrs. Tewillegar Wildlife Foundation and did a rotation observing
anesthesiologists in San Francisco. I was a green advocate and spent much of my time reading about
and debating the travesties visited upon the environment.
In my young explorations I found that medicine and environmental politics peaked my interest. In
my first semester at Pitzer College, I started to study

The Effect of Studying Abroad
The Effect of Studying Abroad As the world has now become a worldwide center, the percentage of
students studying abroad has been increasing from year to year due to many possible reasons such as

requirements, internships, and so on. Studying abroad has become a direction since many students
set their goals in order to get their internationally degrees and visualize their bright future. It is one

Asia would place both palms together at the different positions depending on who that person is;
in Cambodia, it is considered very disrespectful to wear a hat in school; in Vietnam, it is really
impolite to play with each other's head. Furthermore, international students put too much pressure
on themselves. They focus too much on their studies, feeling of isolated, living, families, future,
and so on. They live in a new environment, so they could get a great opportunity to visit many
different places in state or out of state. It is a good way for them to reduce their stress by traveling
at the weekend or school break so that they could get a chance to get out of their states or join their
schools' field trip and explore themselves by their surroundings. Moreover, knowledge plays an
important role in the society today. As they are the international students, they get a chance to study
different majors which are not included in their study programs in their home country. There are
many modern facilities such as: good equipment for the labs and better machinery systems for their
researches. They have to be sensitive to

Why I Want to Study Economics
My father always encouraged me to read books and magazines as a way to nurture my curious
mind. The eagerness to explore new concepts and ideas eventually led me to read magazines like the
Economist. As a young reader, I never made an attempt to fully understand words like poverty,
economic development, and inflation. I thought these were just jargons that adults used in order to
provide depth to their articles. However, when I took A–level Economics in my junior year of high
school, my perception towards these words changed. Economics was not some decorative dictation;
rather it helped me understand the economic, political and social changes that were taking place.
Nevertheless, the reason that got me really intrigued to the field of Economics and inspired to
continue learning it in future was the infusion of mathematics with theories to analyze the
real–world situation.
With the aim of being a successful Economist, I focused on equipping myself with various
theoretical courses in Economics along with Econometrics during my undergraduate studies at Smith
College. Simultaneously, I also devoted my time towards taking rigorous classes in Mathematics and
Statistics. As I realized the importance of quantitative techniques in economic research, I enrolled in
the prestigious and challenging General Course program at the London School of Economics (LSE)
where I focused on taking advanced Econometrics and Mathematical Statistics. Therefore, through
the courses I took during my

Pros and Cons of Studying Abroad Essay
Study Abroad
Studying abroad is an act whereby students move to different countries other than their own to
pursue education opportunities. Education of this form can be primary, secondary or tertiary levels.
Education has taken tremendous leaps over the years. It has experienced significant changes and
advancements. Because of these changes, many people are increasingly becoming educated.
Education has also reached the far corners of the world and more people are attaining it. In the
present day, countries strive to become more and more developed. For this reason there is an
increasing need for better education. Societies with advanced education systems and many educated
people attain growth and development rapidly. For this reason,...show more content...
It is said that education in the west provides practicability and prepares people to educate
themselves in life. Studying abroad goes beyond academic fulfillment. It exposes people to a
different worldviews altogether. People learn many things in different countries. Studying abroad
exposes people to different cultures. It teaches about different cultural practices such as rites, rituals
and relations. It helps people appreciate these different cultures, as well. It also educates about
different ways of living for example the foods people eat and pass–time activities in which they
involve themselves. Studying abroad also helps to promote inter–cultural relations and
communications (Deardorff 253). It also helps people learn different languages.
Another merit for studying abroad is that it enriches someone with knowledge and inter–cultural
communication skills that one can apply in their home country. When people study abroad and
return to their home countries, they are able to improve their societies with their acquired
knowledge and they are also able to relate and work well with foreign people in their countries.
Another reason why people seek to study abroad is to attain part time job opportunities even as they
pursue their studies. This earns them incomes that they can save or spend for their personal
development. People also involve themselves in volunteer work as part of the process of learning
new work relations, inter–cultural

Cognitive Behavioural Therapies for Addiction
Cognitive and Behavioural approaches are also widely used with alcohol and drug using clients. In a
meta–analysis of 17 studies Walters, Mortgenstern, & Rotgers (2003) found that behavioural
self–control programs (training in drinking rate control, goal setting, identifying high risk situations,
alternatives to alcohol use) were more effective than no treatment and at least as effective as
abstinence based programs. CBT for substance abuse encompasses a variety of interventions that
emphasize different targets. However, this essay will be focus only on motivational intervention and
family therapy.

Studying Alone vs Studying in Groups Essay
Reading the content of a text book is not studying; in fact, studying involves thorough understanding
of the topic. Incorporated with this is good concentration and involvement. This can be achieved
either by studying alone or studying in groups. Many students have different studying approaches
which depend on their preferences, character, and availability. Some people are more self– centered
and prefer working alone while others prefer interacting with others and engaging in group
discussions. Personally, I would prefer to study alone which I believe helps shape me for the future
as it forces me to be independent. Studying alone allows to you to study wherever you want at

Students who study in groups are easily distracted by motions or outbursts of other members in the
group. If one of the group members isn't in the mood for studying, it is very easy for that person to
strike up a conversation that they are sure will capture the attention of the other group members.
Some students often tend to only remember facts about unnecessary conversations that occur during
group meetings more than they remember what they've studied. As opposed to studying alone,
studying in groups encourages you to take a shortcut in studying– instead of reading and
understanding the text for yourself; you may find yourself relying on summaries of the text from
other group members without ensuring the accuracy of their summary. Students who study in groups
are more dependent on each other's knowledge as oppose to students who studies alone. In closing,
although studying in groups helps you to solve questions faster, encourages friendships etc. which
contributes to a somewhat noisy environment, I would rather study alone as opposed to studying in
groups because I am better able to stay focused in a very peaceful environment as opposed to an
environment that consist of unnecessary chit–chats, etc. I would be able to spend as much time as I

prefer to study in group. I completely agree that study in group is the best style of learning compare
to study alone. According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, learning can be defined as the activity or
process of gaining knowledge or skill by studying, practicing, being taught, or experiencing
something, the activity of someone who learns, and knowledge or skills that gained from learning.
While group is define as a number of people or things that are together or in the same place, a
number of people who are connected by some shared activity, interest, or quality, and a number of
things that are related in some way. Therefore, study group can be defined as a group of people
who are study or learn together. Study in group is also known as cooperative learning where two
or more people are helping each other in learning. This type of learning involves discussions,
problems solving and other activities that can be done in small group or pairs that aim to achieve a
common goal among the members. There are 3 reasons why I prefer to study in group than study
alone.
First, study group is more effective than study alone. If we are study by our self, we will always
see the learning materials only from same aspect or only from our point of view. Study group are
the perfect places to find new perspective. When we listen to others and ask question to them, we
will start noticing there are

  • 1. Why Is Study Skills Important Study skills are used in everyday life. They are the skills you will need to study and learn with. Using skills to study is best for your own personal needs and will help you out a lot throughout life. Study skills are not just used for students. When people develop study skills they find what skills are best for them. It usually comes naturally as you go through school and do homework. From experience, you find what study skills are best for your learning and what skills are not. You also need to practice the skill that works best for you. It is also good to try other study skills because something else might work out better for you. I used to love working in groups but now I would prefer to work alone most of the time. That is because it usually seems like one person is doing most of the work while the other person isn't. This is why study skills are important. One important study skill to use is self–explanation. to practice this study skill you are going to need to do three major things. Get organized to study, finding time to study, and note taking. This study skill bases all for you. Self–explanation can be used in any class and it is simple. Say if you are ready, your textbook or just a random...show more content... Over the past years and basically since the day you have started learning is when you realize that you need to learn about study skills. Not all things might work for you. Once you find that thing that does work for you, you will be a great learner and grow to be very smart. Using study skills is a very good habit that everyone needs to get into no matter how old you are. When I was younger it was my favorite thing to work with groups. As I got older I got more independent and I started to not like them as much. They can be fun but I realized it wasn't always best for me to be working in groups all the time. Try new study skills it will help you out in life a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay about Study Guide COMPANY BACKGROUND: EasyFind manufactures and sells golf balls. The company is conducting a price test to find a better price point. Presently their golf balls sell for $19 per dozen. Their current volume is 5,470 dozen per month. They are considering reducing their sales price by 20% per dozen. QUESTION 1: What are EasyFind's total current revenues per month? $19 * 5,470 = $103,930 [+/– $3,118] Total Revenues = Price * Volume QUESTION 2: If EasyFind's variable costs are $10 per dozen, what is their total contribution each month at current prices? ($19 – 10) * 5,470 = $49,230 [+/– $1,477] Total contribution = Unit Contribution * units sold QUESTION 3: What will be EasyFind's new price if they choose to implement the price...show more content... How many copies per issue (units) was Kai selling? ($372 + 500) / ($2.21 – $0.83) = 632 [+/– 19] Volume (units) = (Fixed Cost + Profit) / (Selling Price – Variable Cost). QUESTION 2: What total contribution is required to cover the new fixed costs and earn $500 profit per issue? $372 + $135 + 500 = $1,007 [+/– $30] Total contribution needed to cover the old fixed costs + new fixed cost + profit is just the three factors added together. QUESTION 3: What price increase would be required to cover the increase in cost of hiring the press if unit volume (copies per issue) remain the same? $135 / 632 = $0.21 [+/– $0.01] The price increase must be enough to cover the additional fixed cost, so we just need to know what that fixed cost is per copy sold. This equals the additional fixed costs / number of copies sold. QUESTION 4: Kai decides to add color and keep his price the same. This will increase variable costs by $0.40 per issue. What will be the new unit volume (copies per issue) required to maintain $500 profits and cover the increased fixed and variable costs? ($372 + $135 + 500) / ($2.21 – ($0.83 + .40)) = 1,028 [+/– 31] Divide the new total fixed costs plus profit by the new contribution margin. QUESTION 5: Kai decides to keep his price the same and add color, increasing variable costs by $0.40 per issue. What is the percent increase in unit volume (copies per issue) required to maintain $500 profits and cover the increased fixed and variable Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Best Ways To Study Essay Three Best Ways to Study For many students studying for an exam or a test can be very stressful. For a lot of them studying is very hard because sometimes most of the materials they study, they don't remember on the actual test or exam. However there are more than one way to study and most theses studying methods can be very helpful and very reliable. A Lot of students tend to cram all the studying two or the night before the test and according to UCLA professor of psychiatry Andrew J. Fuligni (2012) cramming and trying to get as much information in your head two or a night before the test is very counterproductive. How to study properly Although there are many ways and methods of studying whether it be scientific or a family belief ,...show more content... A second method of studying is by studying in an appropriate setting (Chadron State College). Studying in an environment where distraction is very easy to find is very difficult. Studying in a quiet setting with a lot of space away from distraction can help you study and can help memory performance. With this setting it's also helpful to be consistent with the studying, studying at the same time and same place is very effective especially when this is done 2 –3 weeks prior to the test quiz or exam. With the proper setting, proper setting is also necessary. " Your study desk or table should be equipped with all the materials you might need to complete the assignment, e.g., pencils, pens, erasers, paper clips, stapler, dictionary, snacks, and liquid refreshments, etc." – Chadron State College. Adding items that can help you study and removing things that might distract is also need for effective studying. The third and final method of studying that is effective is studying while listening to music. According to Goodwin (2015), studying with music before a test can improve attention and can help lessen depression and anxiety. The "Mozart effect" is known to be helpful but of course today the effects will be very different since students don't tend to listen to Mozart. The type of music played also plays a pig role of studying. Studying with music that has lyrics is not recommended Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Study Strategies Introduction Walter Landon once said, " Study is the bane of childhood, the oil of youth, the indulgence of adulthood, and a restorative in old age." Over the course of being in school, I have tried many different types of studying strategies. The strategies that have worked the best are post–test, memorization, and effective note–taking during presentations. These three study strategies have helped me pass a variety of tests and quizzes. Thesis: Study strategies help students in being organized, and succeed in their coursework. Body .One strategy that has worked well are strategies that revolve around after taking a test. Having feedback from a professor is very helpful. It provides critical insight to ones work, and from someone who understands the subject better. It gives the student a chance to process the feedback and their writing, or how to prepare something and improve scores. For myself, it helps me to write ...show more content... If a person does not want to carry their textbook or laptop around to study, flashcards are a good alternative as a study aid. It will allow you to study anywhere you are, and can pass the time rather quickly while you are waiting. For myself, I have used flashcards as long as I can remember. They are the study tools that I work with the best, because it singles out the information from the main text in the textbook. It allows me to learn that term or info faster than reading from the book. Rhymes and songs are another great memorization aid. Many people are able to recall lyrics to a song or a rhyme. By turning the information you have to memorize into a song can increase the chance of the material to stay with you. In my experiences in school, songs helped me the most in all the science classes I have taken. Memorizing certain elements or biomes were tough, and hearing it in a song helped my brain to recall the information on a test or a Get more content on HelpWriting.net

International Students Essay example Differences between American Students and International Students Most young people believe that studying in a different country is a privilege because they are able to experience other cultures, and learn from them. However, in the United States it is not as good as they thought because International students have much more pressure being in this country, and sometimes they cannot handle it very well. Therefore, in the United States the life of an international student is very unfavorable if people compare it to the life of an American student. Most university students feel the necessity of working since they would like to have their own money in order to be independent from their parents. It is not the exception for International students because they also feel the necessity of working to be independent from their parents or whoever is responsible for them. However, for international students to work in the United States it is very difficult because they are only allowed to work on campus. These kinds of jobs are very limited since some of the campuses in which they study are very small. Also for an international student to find a job on campus is difficult because people prefer to employee an American student who is not going to have any problem speaking the language. I have a lot of room for improvement and I am not fully using my study strategies to the most potential. Currently my study habits include completing all homework assigned, studying for tests only a day or two before the assessment, and I make sure to mark any information I do not fully understand so that I can ask about it later. I take a full schedule of difficult coursework that occupies a lot of my time, stretching me thin. I find it troublesome to sit down and effectively study without becoming fidgety or frustrated. It would be beneficial to me to discover the best times and places that would give me the most out of my studying time. Developing Strong Academic Study Skills Developing strong academic study skills in Higher Education is arguably the most important area of learning and development a student can cultivate, in order to achieve academic success. The skills that are acquired, the learning techniques that a student refines and life learning experiences are all going to develop into long–term career prospects and future career enhancement. Some of the key areas for development and discussion in this essay will include note taking/essay writing, critical thinking and analysing questions and reflective thinking skills. A major area for development and improvement revolves around effective note taking and essay planning/writing. As a Higher Education student you will be required to plan and produce countless essays in relation to the course you are studying, and a key point of reference to help with this would come from "The Guide to Learning and Study Skills for Higher Education and at Work" who give the following advice and tips: 'Identify the purpose of the essay and who the audience (reader) is and what is required for both – structure your work and develop your arguments/main points – proof read your work and improve language, spelling, punctuation, grammar and style – review what you did and use feedback to improve your essay writing for the future' (Bingham, R. and Drew, S. 2012 The guide to learning and study skills: For higher Education and at work). • 9. Study Abroad Application Essay I discovered a love for art history my freshman year in an honors course with Dr. Esther Sparks. She was so passionate about art history and her students. Dr. Sparks painted such a vivid picture of the history behind the art, its importance and significance. When considering study abroad locations, because of the class I took on a whim and Dr. Sparks whom I adored, I knew I wanted to travel somewhere with rich history, culture, art, and architecture. On every street corner of Florence, Italy, stands some piece of history; therefore, I have chosen this location for my study abroad experience. I am completely awestruck by not only the beauty of these masterpieces, but by the stories they hold. I find myself daydreaming of the people who created these magnificent structures, who they were, and what they thought of themselves and their creations. My goal is to immerse myself in the culture and absorb as much knowledge and understanding of Italian history and traditions as I possibly can so that I may, in turn, become a more well rounded individual. • 10. Why I Want to Study Medicine The sun exploded into a million shades of orange. I sat, friends at each side, atop a monstrous pile of boulders. I looked over the vastness of Joshua Tree National Park, and saw a glimpse of myself. Love filled my soul; love of people, love of family. The backcountry has always helped me find this love; it has been my personal northstar, shepherding me toward research and medicine. I started backpacking at 13, trekking across the winter–harsh lands of Idaho and Montana. It was difficult, but despite this, a feeling welled within me that pushed me forward. This feeling warmed my numb fingers and soothed the ache in my thighs. It drew me close to my friends, fostering the teamwork required. Each new trip allowed me moments of introspection. The teamwork led to trust, trust led to caring, caring led to empathy; eventually I understood the satisfaction of helping others. This is how the backcountry shaped me. Over the next year many choices I made would be based on these lessons. When I was in high school, I had no inkling of where I was going, but I tested the waters. I volunteered at the Mrs. Tewillegar Wildlife Foundation and did a rotation observing anesthesiologists in San Francisco. I was a green advocate and spent much of my time reading about and debating the travesties visited upon the environment. In my young explorations I found that medicine and environmental politics peaked my interest. In my first semester at Pitzer College, I started to study Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Furthermore, international students put too much pressure on themselves. They focus too much on their studies, feeling of isolated, living, families, future, and so on. They live in a new environment, so they could get a great opportunity to visit many different places in state or out of state. It is a good way for them to reduce their stress by traveling at the weekend or school break so that they could get a chance to get out of their states or join their schools' field trip and explore themselves by their surroundings. Moreover, knowledge plays an important role in the society today. • 13. Why I Want to Study Economics My father always encouraged me to read books and magazines as a way to nurture my curious mind. The eagerness to explore new concepts and ideas eventually led me to read magazines like the Economist. As a young reader, I never made an attempt to fully understand words like poverty, economic development, and inflation. I thought these were just jargons that adults used in order to provide depth to their articles. However, when I took A–level Economics in my junior year of high school, my perception towards these words changed. Economics was not some decorative dictation; rather it helped me understand the economic, political and social changes that were taking place. Nevertheless, the reason that got me really intrigued to the field of Economics and inspired to continue learning it in future was the infusion of mathematics with theories to analyze the real–world situation. With the aim of being a successful Economist, I focused on equipping myself with various theoretical courses in Economics along with Econometrics during my undergraduate studies at Smith College. Simultaneously, I also devoted my time towards taking rigorous classes in Mathematics and Statistics. As I realized the importance of quantitative techniques in economic research, I enrolled in the prestigious and challenging General Course program at the London School of Economics (LSE) where I focused on taking advanced Econometrics and Mathematical Statistics. Therefore, through the courses I took during my Get more content on HelpWriting.net

As stated previously, detoxification alone does not address the psychological, social, and behavioral problems associated with addiction and therefore does not typically produce lasting behavioral changes necessary for recovery (Principles of Drug Addiction Treatment: A Research–Based Guide, 2009). Cognitive Behavioural Therapies for Addiction Cognitive and Behavioural approaches are also widely used with alcohol and drug using clients. In a meta–analysis of 17 studies Walters, Mortgenstern, & Rotgers (2003) found that behavioural self–control programs (training in drinking rate control, goal setting, identifying high risk situations, alternatives to alcohol use) were more effective than no treatment and at least as effective as abstinence based programs. CBT for substance abuse encompasses a variety of interventions that emphasize different targets. • 19. Studying Alone vs Studying in Groups Essay Reading the content of a text book is not studying; in fact, studying involves thorough understanding of the topic. Incorporated with this is good concentration and involvement. This can be achieved either by studying alone or studying in groups. Many students have different studying approaches which depend on their preferences, character, and availability. Some people are more self– centered and prefer working alone while others prefer interacting with others and engaging in group discussions. Personally, I would prefer to study alone which I believe helps shape me for the future as it forces me to be independent. Studying alone allows to you to study wherever you want at whatever time best suits you – it saves you the hassle of trying...show more content... Students who study in groups are easily distracted by motions or outbursts of other members in the group. If one of the group members isn't in the mood for studying, it is very easy for that person to strike up a conversation that they are sure will capture the attention of the other group members. Some students often tend to only remember facts about unnecessary conversations that occur during group meetings more than they remember what they've studied. As opposed to studying alone, studying in groups encourages you to take a shortcut in studying– instead of reading and understanding the text for yourself; you may find yourself relying on summaries of the text from other group members without ensuring the accuracy of their summary. Students who study in groups are more dependent on each other's knowledge as oppose to students who studies alone. In closing, although studying in groups helps you to solve questions faster, encourages friendships etc. which contributes to a somewhat noisy environment, I would rather study alone as opposed to studying in groups because I am better able to stay focused in a very peaceful environment as opposed to an environment that consist of unnecessary chit–chats, etc. I would be able to spend as much time as I need to strengthen my weak areas and I would be able to work at my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Study Group Is Better Than Study Alone Every student has different style of learning. Some students prefer to study alone while others prefer to study in group. I completely agree that study in group is the best style of learning compare to study alone. According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, learning can be defined as the activity or process of gaining knowledge or skill by studying, practicing, being taught, or experiencing something, the activity of someone who learns, and knowledge or skills that gained from learning. While group is define as a number of people or things that are together or in the same place, a number of people who are connected by some shared activity, interest, or quality, and a number of things that are related in some way. Therefore, study group can be defined as a group of people who are study or learn together. Study in group is also known as cooperative learning where two or more people are helping each other in learning. This type of learning involves discussions, problems solving and other activities that can be done in small group or pairs that aim to achieve a common goal among the members. There are 3 reasons why I prefer to study in group than study alone. First, study group is more effective than study alone. If we are study by our self, we will always see the learning materials only from same aspect or only from our point of view. Study group are the perfect places to find new perspective. When we listen to others and ask question to them, we will start noticing there are Get more content on HelpWriting.net
