Nostrils
It prevents the entry of dust and harmful
germs
4. The nasal canal opens into pharynx
The trachea and esophagus start from the
pharynx
5. Larynx is seen below the epiglottis
It prevents food particle from entering the
trachea
6. Trachea is made up of incomplete cartilaginous
rings
Mucus and cilia are seen here too
7. The trachea divides into two branches . These
are called bronchi
The bronchi enter the lungs found on either
side of the thoracic cavity
8. Lungs are protected inside a double layered membrane
called pleural
Pleural fluid is seen between this two layers of the
pleura
This fluid helps in reducing the friction during the
expansion and contraction of lungs
