2. AMALGAM
 Itis an alloy of mercury [HG] with an other
metal.
 ALLOY=combination more than one metal is
said to be alloy.

3.  Dental amalgam is an alloy of mercury with
metals usually silver copper and tin.
 Dental amalgam is used as Restorative /
filling material in posterior teeth.
 Prior to. this materail had a great demand for
filling . due to other materail which are bieng
used commonly now a days it’s demand is
completely vanished.

4. Composition of dental
amalgam
 Itconsist of
 LIQUID and
 POWDER
 Liquid= Mercury
 Powder= silver and copper alloys.

5.  Powder consist of
 Conventional amalgam
 High copper/copper enriched
conventional copper is not strong enough to bear a force and
contain low percentage of copper
High copper is enough strong to bear force and contain high
percentage of copper
The copper is mostly used in decidious teeth/teeth of childrens
because copper has abaility against bacterais, mean to say it is
anti_bacterail.

 Tin =27%
 Copper =6%
 Zinc =2%

 Silver =67%
 Tin =17%
 Copper =13%
 Zinc =1%
