medicity - hospital thesis synopsis
1.
2. INTRODUCTION:-
A hospital design is a complex function by virtue of its function. To be successful, a hospital
requires a great deal of preliminary study and planning. A hospital is different from any other type of
building, and there are not many architects who are qualified to plan and build hospitals. For that, I decided
to take “HOSPITAL ARCHITECTURE” as my thesis topic and taking the project medicity as my proposed
site, I hope I may get a knowledge of hospital architecture by doing this project.
The concept of medicity envisages having super speciality hospitals of international standards,
academic medical institutions and other institutions related to medical care and research to provide state-of
the-art medical facilities at one place along with other ancillary and subservient facilities in the form of
commercial tower, shopping mall, yatri niwas, etc.,
ABOUT THE PROJECT:-
Accordingly, the proposed “ MEDICITY” project will provide access to super speciality medicare
services to the people of chandigarh and the entire northern region. Medicity will be planned as a modern
sophisticated city within the city complete with technology and infrastructure facilities that compare with
the best in the world.
Additionally, there are many experts in the northern region in different super speciality areas, who
do not get proper environment and facilities within the state. This proposal is an good solution for all
experts. The main aim of the medicity project is to provide all medical facilities under one roof.
The project would be structured to develop its 1st
phase, with specialty medical services. In the 2nd
phase , special laboratories in the areas of biotechnology, pharmaceutical research and bioinformatics and
testing facilities were to be set-up.
LOCATION OF THE PROJECT:-
HUDA (Haryana Urban Development Authority) has earmarked about 53 acres of land for
development of medicity in sector-38, gurgaon, which abuts delhi-jaipur road(NH-8). Gurgaon is a high
premium, pollution-free urban centre having a prominent place in the national capital region, and forms an
integral part of delhi metropolitan area. The present gurgaon district comprising 9 blocks.
On its north, it is bounded by the district of rohtak, and the union territory of delhi, faridabad
district lies to its east. On its south, the distrcit shares boundaries with the states of uttar pradesh and
rajasthan. To its west lies the district of rewari and the state of rajasthan. Gurgaon town is about 32 kms
away from new delhi, the national capital of india.
3. MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT:-
# To provide super speciality medical care of high quality in gurgaon at the most
economical rates.
# To establish postgraduate medical institutions of high standard and research facilities in
selected super speciality areas.
# To establish a model hospital city on joint sector basis providing ideal working
environment.
# To offload the burden of super speciality care from the state government to enable it to
concentrate on preventive medicare and basic health care.
# To provide quality medical care and earn foreign exchange for the country by attracting
patients and investors from the private sector (NRI)’S and other countries.
SCOPE OF THE PROJECT:-
• The objective of the design is to create a building that is user friendly, applies appropriate
building methodologies in keeping with the locally available materials.
• Located in hot and arid area of northern region, the first pririty therefore is given to its
planning.
• The main principle that is more important to remember in hospital planning starts with
circulation. The numerous departments of the hospitals should be properly integrated so that
the different types of traffic traversing the building are separated as much as possible, traffic
routes are kept short, and important functions are protected from prying eyes or intrusion.
• The traffic patterns for movement of physicians, hospital personnel, patients, visitors should
be concentrated, moreover efficient transportation of food, linen, drugs and other supplies are
handled carefully.
• The design will avoid duplication of services but at the same time provide flexibility and
interchangeability of patient rooms for clinical departments with fluctuating census, and
paying attention to special services like outpatient, intensive care, psychiatry, obstetrics,
operating rooms, medical and surgical specialities, and to such concepts as infection control,
disaster planning, etc.,
• Technology, functionality, prevailing architectural post modernistic trends, all amalgamated
into making these medicity that reflects the architecture of a progressive region of the area.
• This proposed medicity project will be a one-stop destination for all medical services.
4. THRUST AREA:-
“VISUAL STERILITY IN HOSPITALS….”
Long passages with room after room, cold and awesome, devoid of personality – these buildings
often endup making the patient more depressed than when he first came in. The few day stay makes one
“MENTALLY STERILE”. Hence hospitals must be visually “STERILE” too?
“MAKING A BUILDING SENSITIVE TO HUMAN EMOTIONS BY INTERACTING COLOR
AND HUMAN PSYCHOLOGY……”
Color means different things to different things to different people. Before selecting acolor scheme
one must consider how we react emotionally to color and what kind of mood we want to evoke in a room.
Color can work and visually change the proportion of a room. And so color schme should be palnned to
suit particular activity areas.
