4. OBJECTIVES
TO DESIGN LOW COST INTELLIGENT EMBEDDED
SYSTEM BASED REMOTE MONITORING SYSTEM
WITH ZIGBEE.
TO PROVIDE FLEXIBILITY TO USE ANY ENERGY
METER FOR REMOTE MONITORING.
TO IMPLEMENT A SIMPLE EMBEDDED SYSTEM AS
A PROOF OF CONCEPT.
5. INTRODUCTION
Remote Energy Meter(WEM) is the innovation of naturally gathering
information to a focal database for charging/investigating.
Vitality monitor is an individual from group of Sensors,Controllers and
foundation that is utilised to transit particular vitality related data from
different areas into a main issue i.e., office in this an utility recipient.
6. HISTORY OF METERS
Over the past years, metering devices have gone through
much improvement.
Meters in the past, and today in a few countries, were
electromechanical devices with poor accuracy and lack of
configurability.
Theft detection was also a challenge.
Generally, there are two typesof energy meters
1. ANALOG ENERGY METER
2. DIGITAL ENERGY METER
7. MOTIVATION
Organisation expense might be high, the operational expense of
info correspondence inside the framework is immaterial .
The customary manual reading was not reasonable for more
working purposes.
Now-a-days the quantity of electricity purchasers is expanding
in incredible.
8. ‘WEM’ MECHANISM
To remote monitoring and control of domestic Energy
meter.
This can be achieved by use of the microcontroller unit
that continously monitors And records the energy meter
reading in its permanent(nonvolatile) memeory Location.
This system also makes use of RF transmitter remote
monitoring and controlling.
Technologies that are more precise and accurate, error
free,etc.
9. VITAL FEATURES OF WEM:
The technologies of WARMS provides with many vital features
as compared with The analog utiltiy meter reading with man
power.some of these features are listed Below.
1. HIGHER SPEED
2. IMPROVED LOAD PROFILE
3. AUTOMATIC BILLING INVOICE
4. REAL TIME ENERGY COST
5. LOAD MANAGEMENT
6. ALARM WARNING
7. REMOTE POWER SWITCHES ON/OFF
8. TAMPER DETECTION
9. BUNDLING WITH WATER AND GAS
10. METHODOLOGIES USED:
MEDIAS FOR WIRELESS COMMUNICATION:
There are many ways available for communication such as:-
1. RF communication
2. WI-FI communication
3. BLUETOOTH communication
4. ZIGBEE communication
12. ZigBee:
Zigbee is a wireless network for home and
building automations.
Zigbee is attached with both consumer side and
EB(electricity board) side.
13. ADVANTAGES OF ‘ZigBee’:
Power saving
Reliability
Low cost of modules
Patent fee free
Short time delay
Large network capacity
Safety
14. IMPLEMENTATION:
This technology is implemented by having a
Zigbee transceiver.
Interfacing of EB as well as consumer is
necessary.
Units are sensed in consumer side and sent to
EB through Zigbee module.
Units are displayed on LCD and GUI.
21. PROS:
Benefits electric company
1. Eliminating manual metering
2. Monitoring the electrical system more quickly
3. Usage of power resources more quickly
4. Provides real-time data useful for balancing electric loads and
reducing power outages
5. Enabling dynamic pricing
6. Avoiding capital expense of building new power plants
7. Optimize income with existing resources
Benefits electric consumer
1. Offers more detailed feedback on energy use
2. Lower electric bills
22. Benefits the environment
1. Reduce pollution by preventing the need for new
power plants
2. Curbing greenhouse gas emission from existing
powerplants
3. Reduces pollution from vehicles driven by meter
readings
23. CONS:
Challenges to electric company
1. Transitioning to new technology and process
2. Managing public reaction and customer acceptance of the new
meters
3. Making a long term financial commitment to the new
metering technology and related software
4. Managing and storing vast quantities of metering data
5. Ensuring the security of metering data
Challenges to consumers
1. Verifying the new meter is accurate
2. Protecting the privacy of their personal data
3. Paying additional fees for the new meter
24. Challenges to the environment
1. If consumers continue to use more and more electricity,
it would negate the projected environmental benefits
2. Disposal of the old meters
25. Conclusion:
It reduces the work of the office person to a great extent.
It reduces the difficulty faced by the people when readings
are taken manually.
It has been further extended by adding an additional feature
of tripping the supply to a particular customer in case bill is
not paid.
The tariff changes can also be easily updated by the EB when
needed.
The user can see the units and cost in LCD and can control
the usage of Electricity.
