We have developed an open source methodology called “Belakube” which helps teachers and volunteers alike to engage with kids (K1 to K10) and offer supplementary education
2. BACKGROUND
SITUATION CHALLENGE POSSIBLE SOLUTION
Classes are bi-monthly Concepts need to be independent and modular;
anything with continuity cannot be taught
No prerequisite knowledge to be necessary for
classes; lesson plan and curriculum to be topic-
based
Children might not attend all classes (help at
home or farm or social engagement)
Concepts need to be independent and modular;
anything with continuity cannot be taught
No prerequisite knowledge to be necessary for
classes; lesson plan and curriculum to be topic-
based
Mentors come in with varying background and
expertise
Multiple engagements model with students
making it difficult to learn
A defined template for all mentors to follow a
common framework
Over 80% of kids continue to attend year after
year
Learning modules needs constant reteaching as
they are not grade specific
More topics to be included every year for each
category based on learning ability
◼ The BELAKOO programs are supplementary lessons for Class 1 to Class 10 (Weekend Engagement Program)
◼ Our student clientele are underprivileged with 95% studying at government schools with limited resources, experience and
exposure.
◼ Goal is to conduct 52 engagement classes in a year (4 hours each), that are selective in competency (Knowledge, Skill,
Attitude and Values)
3. BELAKOO CUBE - BELAKUBE
◼ The Values, Attitude, Knowledge and Skill (VAKS) matrix (Competency) defined using the framework of a
cube
◼ 6 faces of cube are defined as a combination of STEAM and 21st Century Skill Themes : Learning &
Innovation Skills, English, Mathematics, Science, Environmental Science/Social Science and Life & Career
Skills
◼ Top and bottom of the cube has 2 fundamental skills– Learning & Innovation Skills and Life & Career Skills which embeds the
attitude and values in it
◼ The other 4 faces of the cube focuses on core academic skills and addresses the 3Rs of 21st Century Theme (Reading, Writing
and Arithmetic) plus Science
◼ We will have 10 cubes (J1 to J10) mapping the Journey Levels of the child
◼ Each journey level will have 9 standalone VAKS blocks called as “BELAKUBE CELL”.
◼ For an accelerated learner, Each of these cells will have additional material in the lesson plans
(Proficiency Levels P1 and above)
◼ Each of this BELAKUBE CELL will be upto a 4hr engagement module. These are building blocks of the
selected theme
◼ Each of BELAKUBE CELL is almost independent of the other and will have minimum prerequisite
knowledge requirement
◼ We do understand the limitation of the 9 BELAKUBE CELLS, as they will not complete the entire spectrum
of knowledge to be covered
◼ Learning material is based on 21st century skills and STEAM framework with BLOOM’s taxonomy as the
fundamental base

5. WHAT AFTER I MASTER THE CUBE ?
Once the student masters each of the BELAKUBE
FACEs, proficiency levels can be added (P1 and P2) to
create 2 additional cubes at J1-J10
Go DEEP
P0 P1 P2
6. WHAT IF I WANT TO COMPLETE THE ENTIRE SYLLABUS?
Once the student completes each of the BELAKUBE
CELL, more cells (VAKS block) in each face (Theme) can
be added
More learning themes can also be added as time
progresses with different weightage to each BELAKUBE
CELL
Expand the horizon
WHAT IF I WANT TO ADD MORE SUBJECTS?
7. EXTENDING THE IDEA
◼ As the BelaKube methodology matures, the same model can be extended to cover 100% of
the prescribed syllabus for K-10 schools
◼ For J0-J10, P0 level will have 6 faced cubes covering the core subjects at the basic level
which caters to 70% of the students. This is a good syllabus for weekend classes are we
are limited by the number of classes we get in a year
◼ Strategy covering the entire syllabus for all subjects
◼ As the model gets richer, at each journey (Jx) for each face, we will have P1, P2, P3 …Proficiency
levels
◼ P1 to Px can even have more than 9 cells per face to reach 100% syllabus
◼ We can even have more than 6 faces to cover more subjects in future
8. GOALS
◼ 2022 - Plan to release a book on BelaKube methodology to be distributed to other NGOs
and interested teachers with lesson plans covering P0 level of J1-J10 cubes
◼ 2023 - Roll out of Belakube App to cover Belakube Methodology
◼ Teacher Logins and Student Logins with all teaching and learning aids
