3. Oscar Wilde Research Paper
Oscar Wilde is one of the most celebrated playwrights and poets of the Victorian era. He led an
incredible complex life, he was a gay man living in the Victorian era and was also interested in
Catholicism. The influence of Catholicism and Christianity can be seen in many of his works. His
struggles with his sexuality are also laminated in his poetry. The two often go together, Wilde
struggled to rationalize his sexuality with Catholicism, this struggle is seen in the themes in his poems.
The religious and aesthetic themes in Oscar Wilde s poetry reflects his struggle with his sexuality and
religion.
Oscar Wilde was born in Dublin, Ireland on October 16, 1854, to parents Sir William Wilde and Jane

The speaker refers to Endymion as lover, Be you my lover s sentinel (Anne 8). Lover is a term for a
long time that queer couples would call each other, instead of partner or girlfriend or boyfriend. The
poem continues with the queer themes with the line, You cannot choose but know my love (Anne 12).
The mentality that love is not a choice is a common one in the queer community, being gay is not a
choice, so love isn t a choice. This poem showcases his sexuality in relation to his poetry; while not
having Christian themes, the religious themes of this poem are Greek. Endymion is from a Greek
myth about a very handsome sheep herder. He uses religious themes to articulate his struggle with
religion and his sexuality, in this poem he uses it to show acceptance of his sexuality. Oscar Wilde is
known as one of the best playwrights and poets of the Victorian era. His works withstand the test of
time, managing to be relatable to audiences now. He often used the figurative freedom of poetry to
express his sexuality. His infatuation with Catholicism is reflected in much of his poetry. His struggle
with his sexuality in the context of the Victorian era and his interest in Catholicism influenced his
poetry. The recurring themes of religion and aesthetics display his struggle with the

4. Greek Philosopher Socrates And The Paradox Of Recollection
The Philosophical truth of knowledge is defined as beliefs, thoughts, or propositions that are said to
agree with the facts or to state what is the case. It is this pursuit for an empirical knowledge that has
driven philosophers to ask questions, make arguments, and debate theories that explain what we
observe. This paper will define a theory developed by Greek Philosopher Socrates in the dialogue
Meno that is called the paradox of inquiry. It will then analyze how Socrates believes the doctrine of
recollection resolves the paradox. I will examine whether this is a satisfying resolution to the paradox.
Finally, I will conclude that the doctrine of recollection does not adequately satisfy the paradox of
inquiry.
The paradox of inquiry maintains it is not possible to gain knowledge from another source because its
not possible to know if it s a fact. To break it down more clearly, if you already know what knowledge
you are looking for then inquiry is not necessary. If you do not know what knowledge you are looking
for then inquiry is not possible. And therefore you cannot conclude something as a fact from an
alternative source. This becomes a paradox because if its not possible for human beings to gain
knowledge directly from sources, then its unclear how knowledge is able to consistently develop in
people.
Socrates s proposed resolution to this paradox is introducing the doctrine of recollection. The doctrine
of recollection maintains that we are born with all the knowledge in the world, and that as we go
through life, learning is merely recalling the knowledge we previously had. More simply, we are born
with all knowledge and when we learn or hear things from an outside source it leads to us recalling
that specific piece of knowledge that we innately already had inside us.
This doctrine of recollection, as constructed, is not a satisfying response to the paradox of inquiry. The
chief reason is because all the knowledge in the world is of the same one truth. But, we also know that
the billions and billions of cases of learning and hypothetical recalling of knowledge has resulted in
many alternative realities. Alternative realities meaning that one group believes one thing to be a fact
and having another

5. My Experience At Center Ice
The sweat trickled down the side of my cheek and my eyes went dry as the wind slammed against my
face. My jersey was billowing in the wind as I skated across the famous bruins b at center ice. I saw
the puck go past a defender quickly and trickle along the banged up boards. The crowd was cheering
insanely loud that I thought my ears were going to pop. I was on breakaway and then bang, a stick
completely swiped my feet of the ice. This was one of the best of my life and it all started with a

6. Gross Morphology
Gross Morphology:
The vastus medialis (VM) muscle is often described as having two parts to it. Proximally (and running
down most the length of the femur) is the longus component (VML). Distally where the VM angle of
muscle fibres begins to change from parallel/ vertical to an oblique angle is the oblique component
(VMO) (Adds and Skinner 2012).
Proximally, (VM) attaches to the proximal femur. Starting at the intertrochanteric line and moving
posteroinferiorly to the medial supracondylar line (having passed over the pectineal line and the
medial lip of the linear aspera (Drake et al 2013)). Distally the VM attaches to the medial boarder of
the patella bone over the knee joint.
VM is innervated by the femoral nerve, as with the rest of the quadriceps group. The femoral nerve is

7. Monetary Policy And Its Effects On The Economy
Introduction
Monetary policy has created financial stability and a lesser impact on the economy. In the aftermath of
the financial crisis, many financial institutions had little or no options just bear the burden of their
immature practices. These financial institutions brought major fatalities into the markets increasing the
scope and vulnerability of the financial sectors. According to the Federal Reserve, monetary policy is
an action of the central bank to achieve macroeconomic policy objectives such as price stability, full
employment, and stable economic growth.
Monetary policy has had a positive impact precisely the U.S economy. The unemployment rate has
reduced and the economy has shown signs of recovering. Moreover, many central bank governors
have different views and practices when it comes to monetary easing, at such, to prevent further crisis

TITLE
Nurse Empowerment Job Related Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment by Liisa Kuokkanen,
MNSc, RN; Helena Leino Kilip, PhD, RN; and Joukp Katajisto, MSSc is a well written title that
addresses the key variables such as: job satisfaction, nurse empowerment, and organizational
commitment; however, it could be more specific on what population of nurses the study is addressing.
ABSTRACT
In the abstract, the researcher summarizes the main features such as the concept of empowerment and
the significant factors that influence it. The results of this quantitative study are also described to be
consistent with many other studies, finding that key elements to nurse empowerment are job
satisfaction and organization commitment.
INTRODUCTION
Statement of the problem The problem statement is clearly stated, to find what factors through a
quantitative study establish nurse empowerment. The problem statement does not establish a pervasive
reason for a new study. The researcher states that there is existing research addressing this question
and the existing evidence is consistent with this study s findings. The reasons for needing this study to
be done when there is already significant evidence is not explained. Nurse empowerment has an
impact on every area of nursing. It influences job

After reading the material I believe the reason church planting is not the center of some churches
today is they fact that they are spending all their time and resources on trying to keep a older church

because many people believe that there are enough churches already in the area and that there is no
need for a new church plant. Which is not always the case because their may be a certain group of
people you may be able to reach through a plant that would never consider attending a traditional

Baseball bats have a maximum length of 42 inches, but lengths over 34 inches is not a common
practice (Stamp, 2013). The difference between the weight and the length of a bat is referred to as the
drop. If a bat s weight is 24 ounces and its length is 34 inches, the bat would have a 10 drop or be
referred to as a drop 10 ( The Differences Between Baseball Softball, n.d.). For high school baseball
and up, the bats maximum drop is usually 3 , while softball maximum drop is 12 ounces and may not
be greater than a 8 drop difference ( The Differences Between Baseball Softball, n.d.). The shape of a
baseball bat compared to a softball bat is also very different. The softball bat, also called a bottle bat
because of its slender shape, has a maximum diameter of 2 ¼ inches while baseball bats have a
maximum diameter requirement of 2 ¾ inches ( The Differences Between Baseball Softball , n.d.).

15. James Madison And Federalist Paper No
Although James Madison despised factions as explained in Federalist Paper No. 10, Madison believed
factions were an essential part of government, that needed to be revised through careful governmental
intervention. Madison was careful to ensure his vision for the country s future would protect the given
right to liberty; therefore he found in the Constitution multiple outlets for these factions to dissolve.
However, the government itself was corrupt so the three branches had to be separated to prevent
tyranny and be successful in stopping the dangerous factions. Therefore, in Federalist Papers No. 10
and No. 51, Madison would outline his goals for creating a more cohesive country. A faction by
definition is a small, organized, dissenting group within a larger one, especially in politics. These
groups are often wound together based off some principle they believe relates to them in some way or
another. Madison thought most factions existed through unequal property distribution. Few individuals
had a large majority of property while most had little property and others having none at all. Madison
even said in Federalist Paper No. 10, Those who hold and those who are without property have ever
formed a distinct interest in society (Madison, 1787). This interest he was referring to was how often
these two classes of people were discriminated; the discrimination being labeled as rich or poor.

16. Vandalism Vs Graffiti
Art comes in different types of styles and forms. However, its evaluation has become problematic
since the turn of the twentieth century with a new controversial art form of graffiti becoming popular
by many artists. On two sides of the spectrum, works of art that are produced by graffiti artists
demonstrate a broad spectrum of personal and cultural expressions through past experiences of
economics and social policies set by the state. Throughout this paper, I will look at three areas of
whether increases graffiti is related to the city policies. First is the social relation of inequality and
power within the urban cities as a whole. Second is the current policies implemented in St. Catharines,
Ontario and whether they are decreases the amount of graffiti seen on the street or not. Finally, is the

Social Relations of Inequality and Power in Cities
With the origin of graffiti dating all the way back to ancient civilization in Ancient Romans and
Greece, we can see that in the past graffiti was used as a form communicating their names on
buildings. Graffiti defined by Oxford is writing, or drawings scribbled, scratched, or sprayed illicitly

18. Analysis Of Santa Clause Is Coming To Town
The song, Santa Claus is Coming to Town is a very happy and cheerful song that is played during the
month of December to bring out the Christmas spirit in people. The history behind it is how two men
got their big break and made one of the most played Christmas songs of all time. The song was
originally written by John Frederick Coots and composed by Haven Gillespie on October 1933.
Gillespie was in charge of expressing his gift of writing children s song lyrics while Coots came up
with the tune that caught the attention of young children. The two came up with the song while riding
a subway car in New York. The two men had a masterpiece in their hands, but needed someone to
produce it. Many artists passed on the song because they didn t believe the it would hit big on the
charts and would be difficult to sell, especially since it was a song for kids. Coots at the time was a
writer for Eddie Cantor and tried to persuade him to sing the song live on his radio station. Cantor was
undecided on whether to sing it, but his wife eventually convinced him to give the song a chance. He
ended up performing it live on November 1934 on his radio station and brought huge publicity to the
song. After it was aired on the radio station, the song blew up. People from all over were requesting to

The inferiority complex placed upon the subaltern is adverse, calamitous, and destructive. The
subalterns are and have been alienated, isolated, marginalized, and outed from the hegemonic forces.
They are distinguished as that of a lower class, inferior, and they do not have a voice in the world
because they are outside of the hegemonic class; they are not able to tell their side of history. To be
colonized is to be removed from history, except in the most passive sense. In the world today, the
reason why that we rarely hear from the subalterns is because their voice is viewed as inferior, they
have assimilated into the colonial power s culture, and loss of personal identity. However, from
becoming aware about African intellectuals, such as Frantz Fanon, and historical references to the
conscious development of racial constructs will allow people to view the static images of subalterns in
films in a different light; a light of awareness and outrage. It helps to give the subaltern a chance to tell
his or her side of history and it results in talk about race in the world. In Frantz Fanon s book, Black

22. The And Criminal Law For Misappropriation Of Personal...
Question set 1 1. Who can sign a medical release form (authorization) to obtain PHI? According to
Gartee (2011), Privately Held Information is meant to be safeguarded, but there are times when the
information in them is needed for varied purposes. When that is the case, then authorization can be
given by the patient or the healthcare provided. A patient that is incapacitated will need a guardian to
sign. At the same time, a minor can also use a guardian to sign the release form on behalf of the
patient. Within the release form, there should be the name of the facility with holding the PHI; the
specific information needed to be released, the name of the person the PHI is released to and the
purpose of the release (Iyer et al., 2006). 2. What are the civil and criminal penalties for
misappropriation of personal health information (PHI)? Misappropriation of PHI involves staff of the
health facilities or any other person that is not authorized to have the health information of another.
For that the penalties according to the US Department of Justice are; a penalty of up to fifty thousand
dollars and incarceration of up to one year for those who knowingly obtain and disclose PHI of
another person. Iyer et al. (2006) further agrees that, One hundred thousand dollars is the penalty for

Week Two Journal This week s key learning areas have definitely taught me patience and

developed my thought process throughout navigating the game. It is crucial to create a sequence
during the Simulation to gain total control of your production. Also, learning from the mistakes that I

posed in our case study: How many weeks would it take to produce an order of 1200 White Socks?;

After examining Trader Joe s, and comparing it to Michael Porter s generic strategies it was not very

leadership. This is demonstrated through the way that the company runs its stores, the products placed
inside them, as well as its low price points. In daily operations it is very far from your average grocery

method because of how it runs its products. The previous CEO and founder stated. We don t carry

For most young players, playing in the NBA is a dream. For a lot of people, they only see and judge
from the outside looking in. They have no idea the body of work that players put together throughout
the years just to get to the NBA. For the lucky few making it to the NBA is the easy part, maintaining
their longevity in the league is the hard part. Which is why all the great players eat, sleep, and breathe
basketball. That obsessive quality is what made players such as Kobe Bryant, and Micheal Jordan
great. Before Jordan, and Bryant was known as The Black Mamba, and Air Jordan they were young
players in the NBA going through the pitfalls, and growing pains of making it first as a rotation player,

even between managers itself. Not only respect is fundamental in a fire service but it is also essential
to maintain a professional level of services. The first thing that I ve noticed was the lack of
confidentiality at the firehouse. For any reason, the conversation between Deputy Chief Emerson and
Miss Shaver should not have been heard by any staff members from Station 3. When confidentiality is

Prior to the start of Second Indochina war, the United States had been teaching the South Vietnamese
armies tactics in order to defeat the North Vietnamese guerillas. They would use these military tactics
while executing search and destroy missions as well as clear and hold missions. Search and Destroy
mission would involve South Vietnamese troops along with United States troops covertly entering into
a Vietnamese village, searching for the Vietcong. Once they found the suspected Vietcong, they would
destroy them then retreat back to base. The clear and hold method was very similar except they would

The Vietcong became experts in this type of warfare know as guerrilla warfare. Guerrilla warfare was
termed coined during the Peninsular War by the Duke of Wellington but become popular with the rise
of Communism and Marxism which called for the proletariat (lower class) to rise up against the
bourgeoisie (upper class). Since lower class peasants could not stand a chance against conventional
armies with tanks, helicopters, planes and artillery; they were forced to use cheap but effective tactics
to kill the enemy. This type of irregular fighting is used against orthodox, conventional type opponents
and the Vietnam war proved the effectiveness of guerrilla warfare. One guerrilla warfare tactic that
proved to be highly effective for the Vietcong was using booby traps in order to kill or wound the
enemy without being nearby for retaliation. The Vietcong would conceal hardened bamboo sticks
smothered in poison known as Punji Sticks, underneath a weak platform covered in sticks and leaves,
that would give out if stepped on. Once stepped on, the platform would give out and a US soldier
would fall into the Punji sticks which would pierce his body. Other traps included land mines that
would blow up once stepped on and tripwire grenades that would blow up once a soldier stepped on
the wire. Overall these boobytraps accounted for 11% of US casualties in the Vietnam war. Beyond
traps, the Vietcong would use other guerilla warfare tactics such as the hit and run strategy. During a
hit and run the Vietcong would attack US forces by ambushing them then exiting before artillery or air
support could be called in by predetermined routes. The Vietcong also used a strategy called the shoot

In this sense, the project leader must be technically savvy. Applying a scientific systematic formula to
the project provides for effective and efficient use of resources. Successful projects, those that deliver
value to the organization, use proven Project Life Cycle models such as the standard ISO model.
(Greer, 1999). Following a cookie cutter approach such the ISO standard is a very scientific
management style which requires discipline from the manager. While a rigid management style may
get line items checked off, it can sometimes lead to failure as the end user may be intimidated by the
strict discipline. For instance, City Hospital in the U.K. had a disastrous IT deployment of an
automated system. A post study found that while the contractor Oracle, had done the proper step of
getting end users involved in the analysis, the users supplied inaccurate data which was used in the
development phase and ended up as flaws in the final product. Various reasons were given for the
flawed input such as; hurried users, wrong users and users embarrassed to admit they didn t
understand the system. (Brown, 1998) Following a strict systematic guideline is sometimes self
defeating. That is, leaders and participants can act to avoid failure but don t for fear of deviating from
the plan. (Brown, 1998). It s not just rigid planning that reduces project success, it could be the
organizational culture. For example, companies that minimize

With Robert Conquest s first edition of The Great Terror published in 1968, critics acclaimed that his
work was a spotlight on the atrocities wrought by the Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin. Since then, with
new sources and statistics coming forward, there have been two reassessments published by Conquest.
Regardless of edition, the author attempts to provide the reader a gripping account of Stalin s mass
purges where millions were murdered and millions more were sent to Soviet prisons in brutal,
inhumane conditions. Furthermore, to give the reader a well rounded view of this period Conquest
writes about more than just the gulags. He shares his research on the Moscow Trials, the vicious

36. The Problem Of Fraud And Its Effects On Society
Enlightenment thinker Giacomo Leopardi claims that [t]he combative spirit...derives from the folly of
human beings who will not accept the circumstances of life (Leopardi). In a society where people
value success over dignity, this lack of acceptance leads to the callous deception that causes so much
suffering today. This deception, found in contract fraud, means that the one soliciting a contract
benefits more than the one who signs it when the terms of the agreement are manipulated. Fraud has
become one of the top three causes of bankruptcy in America, along with medical bills and job loss (
Top ). In fact, a 2015 study by the Federal Trade Commission found that 25.6 million people had
agreed to a fraudulent contract that year because they were not clearly given all of the terms
(Ramirez). The manipulation of contracts to gain an advantage in society implements precaution that
undermines trust and ultimately leads to increasingly apathetic individuals.
People exploit contract fraud to gain an advantage over others in our competitive society. People who
commit contract fraud consent to do whatever it takes to become their definition of successful ,
regardless of the innocent people that suffer as a consequence. This could also come in the form of a
misrepresentation of services. An anonymous survey conducted by Harvard University found that 52%
of people surveyed lied on their resume to gain their desired job (Badaracco and Useem). A resume is

Happily N Ever After Annabel Lee was the last complete poem of Edgar Allan Poe, published
sometime after his mysterious death in 1849. The poem, much like many of his other works, is about a
young woman named Annabel Lee, with whom the speaker is in love with and who tragically dies.
Poe had a lot of women die in his life, and though it is unclear who the poem is about, it has been
interpreted to be about his wife Virginia, who had died young. He places blame on the angels for
Annabel s death, who appear to be his foes instead of the friendly beings they are commonly portrayed

throughout the poem by the repetition of this phrase. Poe s choice of diction places the story in a
romantic setting, intensifying the love they have for each other, which is much like the love that
princes and princesses have for each other in those stories. Their love reflects the true love that has
become a staple of fairytales, and it is so strong that the speaker still harbors these feelings toward her.

addiction. However, there are many support groups and different associations a person can join to help
them fight of their addiction. Even so, addiction is still extremely hard to fight off. So what can an
addict do when they have done everything to fight off their addiction, but they are still addicted? They
do what many people have done when they are in need, they turn to a higher power, something or
someone who is greater than themselves. Having a higher power when one has an addiction, can help
them fight off and possible completely quit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An individual will have to face many challenges in recovery, it can be a great source of comfort to
believe in a higher power that is providing them with help (2). Also, addicts know that they do not
have to face and beat their addiction alone, they can get help from a power that is far greater than
themselves. Another benefit to believing in a higher power will in recovery is that, they have a sense
of purpose in their life, and it encourages an individual to develop as humans, they find meaning in the
little things of life and start to be thankful for everything (2). Even so many people say that faith based

41. Teenage Pregnancy in American Culture Essay
In recent years, teenage pregnancy has been labeled a major issue amongst teens that it can be known
as an Epidemic. Is teenage pregnancy directly responsible for a host of society s ills? Increasing
teenage pregnancy rate translates directly into increasing rates of school failure, early behavioral
problems, drug abuse, child abuse, depression, and crimes. Many social problems can be directly
attributed to the poor choices of teenage girls. The talk shows today are flooded by episodes dealing
with teen pregnancies. The teenage rate in the United States declined in 1993 and 1994. Unfortunately,
the number of birth decreased only to older teens, ages 18 and 19. Babies born to teens younger than
17 actually increased, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teenage hormones seek gratification, this may become addicting; they sort of become sexual
predators. Many cultural influences remind these young people of teenage sexuality. Proscribing
sexual activity for teens has gone to the personal liberation and media saturated sex desire. Billboards,
commercials, magazines, everywhere you look, sexuality is expressed. Watching a beer commercial
has become one of the targets for sexuality because almost all these commercials has a half naked
woman trying to seduce a man into drinking their label of beer. Another concern regarding teenage
pregnancy is coercion. In California, more than 70,000 babies were born to teenage mothers in 1993,
are now charging men in their 20 s who get underage girls pregnant with either statutory rape or lewd
sexual activity with a minor. The Urban Institutes states that three quarters of the girls under the age of
14 who are sexually active say they were forced by their first partner to have sex relations. Media
attention focuses a lot on teenage pregnancy casting the unmarried teenage mothers as the source of
many society s ills. Illegitimacy is an important social problem, I believe more than crime, drugs,
poverty, illiteracy, welfare, or homelessness. The reason why is because unwed parents are the main
drive for all of these other social problems that are due to the illegitimate

42. Jim Jones And The Jonestown Massacre Essay
On November 18, 1978, followers of Jim Jones shot and killed United States Congressman Leo J.
Ryan and four others traveling with him on a fact finding trip to Guyana. Ryan was there to investigate
complaints about the community called Jonestown, which was largely inhabited by his former
California constituents.
After murdering a United States congressman Jones knew the end of his rule was near. He ordered his
entire following, some 914 people, to commit what he called revolutionary suicide. This included
more than 200 children.
The rise
Jones began his group in San Francisco and was once a respected community leader. He started
programs to help the elderly and poor. His circle of friends once included leading politicians, who ...

After the tragedy at Jonestown these politicians found it difficult to explain how Jim Jones so easily
took them in.
One of Jones long time followers Tim Stoen explained, There wasn t anything magical about Jim s
power. It was raw politics. He was able to deliver what politicians want, which is power. And how do
you get power? By votes. And how do you get votes? With people. Jim Jones could produce 3,000
people at a political event.
Agar Jaicks, Chairman of the county Democratic Central Committee seemed to agree with Stoen s
assessment when he said, What you had here was a ready made volunteer workforce he was very
strong here was a guy who could provide workers for causes.
Jones first step on his path to political influence began in the Fall of 1970. He created a fund for the
families of slain police officers. This was the beginning of a viable process he used to make valuable
friends through charitable contributions.
The first bad press Jones received in the Bay area was a somewhat critical story run by the San
Francisco Examiner in 1972. The paper exposed that Jones had claimed to be a prophet and said he
could raise the dead.
Perhaps to preempt any further embarrassment Jones subsequently gave out grants to 12 newspapers.
He even bussed his people to demonstrate in support of reporters who had been jailed for not revealing
confidential sources. Ironically, the man who would later flee from the press and oppress dissent
