Action research involves teachers identifying questions about their classroom experiences, planning interventions to address the questions, observing the results of interventions, analyzing the data collected, and reflecting on the findings to improve teaching practices. It describes defining a research question, planning the research methodology, collecting and analyzing data, and reflecting on results to determine next steps in an iterative cycle for continuous learning and improvement. The goal of action research is to help teachers better understand and enhance student learning.
This document provides an outline for a training on action research for English teachers. It discusses what research and action research are, how to develop an action research, collect and analyze data, and write an action research report. Ms. Wong, a third grade teacher, wants to address a disruptive student's behavior through action research. She plans to use a single-subject A-B-A-B design to study the effects of time-out on the student's disruptions. First, she will establish a baseline by observing the student's behavior for several days. Then she will introduce time-out periods for a few days to see if it decreases disruptions. She will repeat the cycle, ideally finding that time-out reduces the problematic behavior so it is no longer needed. The main challenge will be observing the student during time-out while still teaching other students.

This study aimed to improve the English speaking skills of 41 primary school students in Thailand through the use of games. The students participated in four English speaking game lesson plans and their speaking skills were evaluated before and after with pre- and post-tests. The results showed that the students' post-test scores were significantly higher than their pre-test scores, demonstrating an improvement in speaking ability. Observation of student behavior also found that students who received rewards for participation were more engaged (74.39%) compared to those who did not receive rewards (23.17%). The study suggests that using games can help motivate students and reduce anxiety to improve English speaking skills.
