1. Ice from the Sky
Glace vu du Ciel
A young African boy in a remote
village moaned and tossed as his
fever raged higher and higher. The
missionary doctor who was helping
to care for the boy did what he
could to bring the fever down, but
what he really needed was an ice
pack. He quickly dismissed the
thought. The nearest ice was a
difficult day’s journey away.
“Cannot God send ice for my
dear son?” the sick boy’s mother
asked.

gémissait, secoué par une fièvre qui
ne cessait de monter. Le médecin
missionnaire, qui soignait le
garçon, s’efforça de faire tomber la
fièvre, mais en vain. Ce qu’il aurait
fallu, c’était un bloc de glace. Idée
qu’il s’empressa d’écarter, étant
donné qu’on ne pouvait en trouver
à moins d’une journée de marche.
— Dieu ne peut-Il pas envoyer
de la glace pour mon fils ?
demanda la maman du garçon.

2. Then she reminded the
missionary doctor of what he had
said in one of his sermons, that
God delights in doing miracles
for His children.
“That’s true,” said the doctor.
“But ice? Here?”
Paying no attention to his
doubts, the mother asked again
matter-of-factly, “Shall we not
pray?”
And so they did. The boy’s
mother got right to the point.
“Lord, if ice is necessary to my
sons healing, You can send it. I
believe it!”
Puis elle rappela au missionnaire
le thème de l’un de ses sermons, que
Dieu aime à opérer des miracles pour
Ses enfants !
— C’est vrai, balbutia le
missionnaire, mais tout de même. De
la glace !… ici ?
Sans prêter la moindre attention à
ses doutes, la mère insista : — Est-ce
qu’on ne devrait pas prier?
Ils prièrent donc . La maman une
prière qui allait droit au but :
— Seigneur, si de la glace est
nécessaire pour la guérison de ce fils
que j’aime, Tu es capable de nous en
envoyer. Je le crois !

3. No sooner had she ended her
prayer than a hailstone the size
of a walnut rolled into the hut.
When the two looked out, they
saw hailstones plummeting from
the sky.
“God has answered in His
own wonderful way!” the
mother exclaimed.
The hailstorm was local, and
did not damage the villages
crops. The son recovered
completely. News of the miracle
spread to neighboring villages,
and increased the faith of
everyone who heard it. And the
doctor was reminded that God
answers “impossible” prayers.
A peine avait-elle prononcé ces mots,
qu’un grêlon de la taille d’une noix vint
rouler à l’intérieur de la hutte. Tous
deux, en regardant dehors, aperçurent
une averse de grêle qui s’abattait du
ciel.
— Dieu a répondu à Sa façon,
s’exclama la maman ! Et
prodigieusement !
La tempête, circonscrite localement,
ne causa pas de dégâts aux récoltes du
village. Le fils fut complètement rétabli.
La nouvelle du miracle se répandit dans
les villages alentour, et fit grandir la foi
de tous ceux qui en entendirent parler.
Et, faut-il l’ajouter, l’événement vint
rappeler au missionnaire que Dieu
exauce les prières “impossibles”.
